Accountability Index Update
Funny how things change with a little passing of time. Not talking about my face. Talking about Sharper and Jenkins. And Mike Bell. And LT2. But not Ingram. Oh hell no, that ain't changing.

Carolina Panthers are not in steep decline in 2010 |
"Steep decline" is putting it mildly and politely. Might be the last team to win a game in 2010. |

Objection to rotoworld opinion (Jenkins stays at corner) after Sharper's signing for 2010 |
Depends on Sharper making the team. I agree that Jenkins moves to S as soon as Sharper is off the roster. He's on PUP for 6 weeks. Week 7 resolves this: Cut, benched, or starting at FS. |
Sharper will come off the bench in special packages. Jenkins is the starter. You were right and I was wrong, Satch. |

CP demands vindication for proposing LT2 as the Saints' RB2-3 based on his performance for the Jets. |
Rotoworld: The old man simply looks like the better option than the youngster right now. It's clear that we've underestimated how much injuries slowed LT the last two seasons, because now that he's healthy he looks terrific. This will be a committee, but Tomlinson is the clear leader right now. |
LT2 said he wasn't healthy the last 2 years. He is truly a fine specimen. I wrote him off too soon. |

Hopes Clint Ingram will add stability at LB |
Rotoworld.com: He's eligible to return in Week 7, though the Saints won't be counting on Ingram after a slow recovery from what was initially characterized as a "small" microfracture procedure. He many not have much left upon return. |
Ingram was waived Oct 20. Slow healer. |

MtnExile makes his futile defense
Once again, I don’t understand how I got lumped into the Panthers defenders. I said " If [Moore] can be efficient, and the Panthers’ run game doesn’t slow down any, Carolina will be a tough nut to crack." The Panthers are in a steep decline because Moore wasn’t efficient (nor was Clausen), and the run game slowed down. It was a (all together now…you remember this from the last lesson) “conditional statement,” not a prediction.
As far as Cutler is concerned, I’m already declaring victory. Jay is an idiot who can’t read defenses, doesn’t understand Martz’s system, and holds the ball too long. He did okay in the first two games, when he had five TDs and only one pick. Since then, in three games, he’s completed only 53% of his passes, has only one TD and two interceptions, has been sacked 18 times (he’s on track for over 70 sacks this season), and is in, shall we say, steep decline. Listen to good Nawlins boy Marshall Faulk excoriate him on NFL.com sometime.
It was worth the wait.
let me splain someting to ju
I said " If [Moore] can be efficient, and the Panthers’ run game doesn’t slow down any,
That is precisely how you got on the List. I felt strongly that neither of those things were going to happen due to the collapse of the rest of the team. GM, coach, defense, receiving corps, OL and DL. If you say “conditional statement” one more time…. well, stop weaseling and waffling, I’ll leave it at that.
Jay is an idiot who can’t read defenses, doesn’t understand Martz’s system, and holds the ball too long.
Martz seems to be very pleased with Cutler. It’s the pass blocking that is terrible. If by “too long” you mean over a half second, then I agree, because that’s about how long he has to decide to throw before he gets buried.
What is it with you and quarterbacks who have poor offensive lines, like Archie Manning?
Thanks for replying though. I missed you this week.
"He's every rich kid you knew in college who read The Fountainhead once and loved the idea that sharing is immoral."
It's not all Cutler's fault
but he doesn’t seem to understand the concept of a hot read. You’d think he would learn that pretty quickly with an offensive line as bad as his. Also, it is up to the QB to adjust the protection scheme based on what he sees from the defense.
Cutler
Has had a history of looking for the deep ball and hanging onto the ball. Take the Giants game for instance, when he was knocked out of the game after being sacked 9 times. He had an underneath option available, but he waited for the deep pass to develop and it didn’t. Cutler has a strong arm, but so did JaMarcus Russel (LSU, LSU). He looks like he throws 30-40 yard bullets with zero effort at the flick of a wrist, but hanging on for that show of arm strength can often lead to sacks. Now before I make the accountabilipissed list, Cutler has more talent, a better organization and much better coaching to develop him into a top tier QB than Russel ever did. I like Cutler, and I think he is the perfect QB for the Bears, and I think the trade of Orton for Cutler worked out better for the Bears, but Cutler still has a lot of work to put in to be the QB the Bears are looking for.
Just as a note on the pass blocking, when going up against a huge pass rush D, I figure you instantly begin practicing the swing pass and the check down route as a staple. I figure that it should be used quickly against a pass rush d such as the Giants, Vikings, Cowboys, 49ers, etc. Cutler needs to be working on the swing pass and screens moreso than the bomb. He needs some tutoring on his defensive reads and a little better vision in seeing the blitz. He knows his line will offer some protection, but he needs to go to his less flashy check down route more often to keep the opposing defenses honest.

Seriously, you should listen to Marshall Faulk
He played several years in Martz’s system, and understands it thoroughly. And he blasts Cutler again and again for holding onto the ball too long. In Martz’s scheme, it’s understood that the line can only accomplish so much, and the quarterback’s first responsibility is identifying the rushers who won’t get picked up. Every blitz creates an opportunity, especially when you have five guys going out on patterns. The QB has to know when to get rid of the ball to a hot receiver quickly, and Cutler can’t do that. Because he’s stupid. He’s Forrest Gump with an arm instead of legs, and without the personality.
It was worth the wait.
Throw, Cutler, Throw!!

I just did listen to Faulk, Sapp, Irvin, and Mooch
“Is Cutler the wrong QB for Martz’s offense?” They all said NO. He doesn’t trust his receivers and needs to throw, yes. But the primary blame is on the pass blocking. Baldinger showed film of pass rushers coming unblocked on both ends, repeatedly. Also the receiving corp is not as good as what Cutler had in Denver (I thought they would be better this year, I was wrong). Cutler is not the primary problem, they all agreed.
"He's every rich kid you knew in college who read The Fountainhead once and loved the idea that sharing is immoral."
The Bears have only running the ball 44.4% of the time on offense. That’s not where any team can afford to be, if you’re looking to properly evaluate their starting QB. Cutler’s actually done better than expected, considering the imbalance.

1.4 yards per carry. Martz says there is no use in running until the blocking improves.
"He's every rich kid you knew in college who read The Fountainhead once and loved the idea that sharing is immoral."
I completely disagree with that, btw. No team can afford to abandon either the run or the pass based on its success rate. Otherwise, you wind up losing both. Only two things should dictate abandonment of the run: the clock (when trailing late) or losing every RB/FB to injury. Even in the case of the latter, I’d be doing my damndest to incorporate a few Wildcat plays in here and there.
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
You are the anti-Mike Martz.
"He's every rich kid you knew in college who read The Fountainhead once and loved the idea that sharing is immoral."
I am. I respect him as a QB mentor. He’s the best in the business, from a mechanics standpoint. I’ve never really seen the upside in his pass-heavy playcalling, though. I think St. Louis would have been a formidable offense over a much longer stretch, had Marshall Faulk carried the ball more often. The most rushing attempts he had as a Ram was 260. He topped that 4 out of the 5 years he was a Colt. Of course, Warner was a much more prolific passer than Jim Harbaugh … just as Brees is to Brooks … I just think you’re wasting that advantage when it becomes the focal point of your offense. Having a top tier QB should be what pushes you over the top, not what gets you up the mountain.
