Fleur-de-Links - Dec. 14th: Saints v. Ravens is Big Game for Both Teams

This matchup against a Ravens team that matches up with us pretty well will surely be an epic battle. At least our Saints get an extra day to rest and heal that the Ravens won't get. Plus, the Ravens must be pretty battle weary after having to hold off a resurgent Texans team in OT last night. The outcome of last nights MNF game works well into our favor. Had the Ravens lost, they'd likely be desperate for a win against us. Had they won easily, they might not have come out of that game so obviously tired. Their defense looked totally gassed in the 4th quarter. Despite all of this, it's still going to be difficult for us to get a much needed win at their house. Screw the Wild Card and 5th seed! We want the division, the 1st seed, and a first round bye. GO SEAHAWKS!

The Saints have their flaws (too many turnovers on offense, inconsistent special teams) but who in the NFC is perfect? Atlanta is really good but the difference between them and New Orleans is a missed Garrett Hartley field goal.

A 29 yard freakin' field goal.

Losing to a 5 win and 6 win team sucks, too.

Yeah, it still sucks that Hartley missed that kick

Our positions would be switched right now and the Falcons would be chasing us. Maybe that’s how the Madden Curse got us this year. :)

I always knew that "Missed" kick made a difference in the standings

And the rotten eggs we layed against the Cards and Browns. We can win this Sunday if we protect the ball and protect Brees. And if we do well on 3rd down like we did against the Rams, that will be critical as well.

And Also

Meachem is going to have a breakout game this Sunday. I feel it! He had one bad game this past Sunday. He will bounce back strong!

by Jricky70 on Dec 14, 2010 6:00 PM CST reply actions

What does that mean?

What is a breakout game? I dislike when people say that. I have always defined a breakout game as when an unknown player performs incredibly well and becomes known. Robert Meachem is well known so I don’t think he could qualify for having a breakout game. He’s already broken out.

If the Saints re-sign Rod Harper, he catches seven passes for 100+ yards and two TDs – THAT’S a breakout game.

A breakout game meaning he will have a big game this Sun. He’s had many breakout games before. Sorry if I offended you

something will explode in the next three weeks. All they are seeing is us in the rearview mirror and if they look back too much, they will run into something they are not expecting.

Here's my take

The Falcons better not over look the Seahawks on Sun. The Hawks have been a Jeckyll N Hyde team all season. This past Sunday Mr Hyde showed up and got dismantled by the 49ers. If Dr. Jeckyll shows up this Sun. The Falcons will have trouble.

How sweet would it be. A Saints win and a Falcons loss.

Can you imagine on Dec.27 Saints and Falcons on national TV both at 11-3? Talk about thrilling!

Seattle is suppose to be the hardest road trip for any eastern team

and playing in a hostile crowd, and Seattle playing for a division lead. I have to believe it wont be easy for the Foulcons. Hope I’m right !!! The pressure is on……………. Less than two weeks and all hell will break out.

There's a chance of light snow in Baltimore Sun

And go figure, every other day except Sun is sunny. Hope we can bring our A game.

But I’m confident we will. The good news. the Ravens secondary is lacking. We need to shut down their run game

According to STATS, the Saints O-Line has produced the No. 2 Protection Index in the NFL at 81.4;Colts are 1st (90.6)

o-0
I’ve seen the Colts O-line, how are they ranked 1st?

Because Peyton throws picks instead of letting himself be sacked.

Just kidding. It’s essentially the same thing as our line. It’s very good but not THAT great in pass protection, but we have an awesome QB behind them who can adjust and make do with a less-than-perfect line. Same story in Indy.

by FriarBob on Dec 14, 2010 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

Have you seen the Indy O-line?

Ours is MUCH better. Peyton has 2 seconds or less to throw. It’s atrocious.

by Jon Banks on Dec 14, 2010 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

Yes. My point was that Peyton makes their line look OK by the numbers used to calculate this metric. Not that they are any good (at all, actually), but that he makes them better.

Drew makes our line better too. He just doesn’t need to do as much as their line does. Which is why Drew has generally only thrown an INT or two a game instead of 11 in three games.

by FriarBob on Dec 14, 2010 11:15 PM CST up reply actions

Ok, just making sure.

I may have misread your comment. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t need a vision test. :-)

Protection Index

what the hell is that? Is that like the Passer Efficiency Rating that nobody can figure out?

It’s like taking a physics class to keep track of NFL stats anymore.

And the Colts line?? Child please. Does the Index take into account how many times the QB throws an INT because the protection is collapsing?

 Off my soapbox now.

I see....

A lot of safety blitzes in store for this Sunday…judging from what I saw Houston do to Baltimore… I think GW is drooling at the amount of different looks he will be able to use to confuse both Flacco and his O-line. I say the D is good for at least 5 sacks, possibly more just because our secondary is MUCH better than the Texans.
