Marques Colston has Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Just saw this over at the Times-Pic and pooped a little in my pants...

New Orleans Saints receiver Marques Colston had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday to "clean out some loose bodies," according to Coach Sean Payton.

Wonderful timing! It's always great to be missing your teams best receiver right before the playoffs. But Sean Payton isn't making as big a deal about it as I am...

But Payton said Colston hasn't been ruled out for this Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and that he doesn't expect Colston to be sidelined too long.

$&#^%! The Saints are screwed this weekend! Because if Payton says it's not a big deal, than we know it really is a big deal. After all, coach is always accurate and forthcoming with his injury information, right?

I'm not the only one who thinks Colston is definitely out this weekend. Gregg Rosenthal over at Pro Football Talk agrees...

there's no chance he could play just five days after surgery.

I guess not having Colston for this Sunday isn't that bad. What worries me if whether he'll be ready the following week once the real games start.

Fingers crossed.

**Shout out to MikeRiley22 for being the first to post a FanShot on this. **

Meachem

Is he fine after the camera man incident? Any news?

by Saintsfan4life on Dec 30, 2010 3:20 PM CST reply actions

It looked he could have continued playing so they probably rushed it because they are confident they will get him back in two weeks.

I dont think there will be any significant drop in production by the corps… and lets see what AA is made of….

If Colston is out it’s huge and AA is as much of a solution to the problem of not having Colston as me thinking that switching to light beer cures my drinking problem.

by Malbrough on Dec 30, 2010 3:26 PM CST reply actions

The good news is

…over the next two weeks we either play the Bucs and the Rams, or the Bucs and nobody. I think Colston will probably be ready by the divisional round.

Even if he’s not, we have Lance. Frankly, it seems that Marques has been getting by on his reputation…he’s had so many drops recently that if his name were Devery, people would be screaming to cut him.

It was worth the wait.

agreed

Although every receiver not named Lance has had quite a few drops this year

The only offensive starter less integral to the saints’ ability to produce would be Henderson. Or bush, if he technically “starts”.

New job and stuff, busy schedule. Been lurking quite a bit, but less time for unsolicited opinion.

according to football Outsiders Colston is 14th best WR, has third highest catch rate (64%). FYI: Moore is rated 15th with 71% catch rate. This is potentially huge injury

Ralph, a lot of us don’t place much confidence in Football Outsiders, a well-chosen name. Do you know anywhere that raw stats, as opposed to made-up metrics like WAYF (weather-adjusted yards after fumble) or SAVONBA (salary-adjusted value over next best alternative), can be found? I really would like to know how many drops Colston has had compared to other receivers.

It was worth the wait.

I need to know whether you made these up or actually exist.

I vote for made up...now

but in 10 years they will actually be real.

It's gonna be a great year.

What would number of drops tell you exactly? Drops per target is kept track of on Football Insiders and is a far more telling statistic. Raw (cumulative) drops are too, sortable under the same section … I just don’t see that being much of a gauge in and of itself.

This is exactly why it’s not that big of a deal. Moore isn’t a starter.

Wow, where did this come from, Mon. nite?

3 wks no TB, Sea/St.L, back by 2nd rd. imo His exp. will be missed but Meach and Graham have been targeted recently. plus Lance Moore was huge v. ATL. Ivory will also neg. some catches. Not crazy worried but he’ll be back for the Big Battles.

TB is not the team Atlanta is, we have Ivory, PT,Bush, Moore, Meachem, Henderson, Graham, Shockey, Arrington

and we’ve won a bunch of games in the past when Colston was injured. Don’t get me wrong, I want Colston but we hget faster without him and he will definitely be back for the first playoff game. These arthoscopes are very minor.

I'm thinking they had to do it now.

Keep him in till after Atlanta then rush him in and out for play offs. SP only speaks for the benefit of the up coming coaches. Could careless about squeezing the guts out of us fans.

no panic

but this is essentially a bye week (sorry Carolina for the disrespect unless we have loaned Gregg Williams on a 7-day contract). Potentially losing Colston for the 1st round, no matter who the opponent, on the road, is a big concern.

Can anyone cite me to the case of a WR having knee surgery and producing prodigously in a playoff game 11-12 days later?
