FA rules for uncapped year
I was responding to a comment thread and realized that everybody probably wants to see this, so I turned it into a fan post.
Short version is that we cannot sign any UFA (key point, unrestricted) who was not previously on our team (so Fujita, Sharper, etc., don't count) until we have lost one by them actually signing a new contract elsewhere, and then the contract we give the new FA cannot exceed the value of the one given to the player we lost.
We can, however, sign anybody who was released and has cleared waivers (or was not subject to the waiver system) and we can trade for/sign RFAs at will. Of course that will cost draft picks and/or other players, but if we really want an RFA we can get him.
And of course our own players from last season, regardless of whether UFA, RFA, or ERFA, are all fair game for us to sign if we can reach a deal.
Full details about the final eight plan and all other related CBA / FA questions were posted on Cincy Jungle awhile back.
Hope this helps.

I was mistaken i guess
I thought we were allowed 1 free agent but could also replace any we lost.

do you mean any NEW UFA's , right?
If, say Fujita is an UFA, so we have to lose one in order to be able to sign him??

So to sign a UFA off of a different team
we would have to lose one of ours first?
Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!
