2010 CSC Community Mock Draft: Participation Wanted
For all the draft freaks out there in Who Dat Nation, your time has finally come. Those of you fortunate enough to be reading Da Chronic last off-season will remember our community mock draft. Well, it's that time again.
I am looking for interested parties who would like to participate in this years mock draft. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go ahead and check out what we did last year. It's pretty popular stuff among football blogs during the off-season. Each member is assigned an NFL team, takes into account that teams needs and chooses the player they think that team will draft.
The write-ups that members provide can be as long, detailed, well-written and chock full of stats as possible or they can be short and simple. The former is definitely preferred but not required. The only requirement is that it's at least one paragraph, it makes a modicum of sense for that team and it's written and emailed to me in time.
Our membership here at CSC wasn't quite nearly as high last year as it is now, yet we still had pretty good participation, so this year I am expecting to have more people interested in our mock draft than there are teams in the league. But that's okay. If necessary, we can make it a two round mock. In the event that demand far outweighs supply and some members just have to be excluded, we will use length of CSC membership as the determinant, preference going to those who have been with us longer.
If you're interested, simply say so in the comment section below. When I've gauged interest and got the list together, I will send out an email and get the ball rolling. Teams will be randomly assigned unless members have a strong desire or reason to represent a specific team (please let me know which team and why in the comment section). To avoid any fighting, I will take the Saints pick. We will keep to a stringent schedule and members will know well ahead of time when their pick and write-up is due. I also ask if there are members out there who really like this stuff and don't mind the work, to let me know if they would be willing to serve as alternate and be able to put together a quick write-up in the event of a last-minute drop out.
So who wants in on the action?
Also, we will be having an open thread later today for those of you watching the NFL Combine live. Come on back.

and in case you're wondering, it's not all THAT hard to do the advanced research...
just check a few mock draft/scouting sites, post a thread asking for position needs assessment and draft recommendations on the SB nation site for whichever team you are representing, give yourself a couple of options at each position, watch how the mock draft unfolds, and when it’s your turn to choose, pull it all together with a write-up and stock photo of your selected player from google images, and you’re done!
Hey, that IS easy! I think even I could do it!
Put me down as interested, Dave.

I should specify
I’ll take it seriously, so long as I’m not given the Falcons or the Redskins. I hate those two teams so much there is no chance I’ll do anything that benefits them. Be forewarned, I get either team and I’ll be drafting a long snapper in the first round.

Count me in
I’m dorkish enough to follow this stuff all throughout the offseason, I might as well put it to good use.

Since I follow this stuff with some regularity . . .
I can do last minute alternate write-ups if needed. Still unemployed at the moment, so it’s not like I’m lacking for free time.

Hit me up on the sticks! Madden 10 is my game now.
I'll do it.
I’ve been waiting for this to come around! Anybody but the Cowboys, though!
Snap, place, kick! And it's good! It's good! It's goo-hoo-hood! Pigs have flown! Hell Has frozen over! The Saints are going to the Superbowl!

that brings us to 17, including Dave
that’s half the first round, plus 1 (not counting teams with multiple picks – Seattle, SF, Denver). How will that work, Dave? Will someone get Seattle’s first pick and then someone else get their 2nd first?
"In the end, the bread was in the pudding." Bobby McCray
oops, Denver only has one 1st round pick from the Bears - Seattle has their original

im game
if i can, i would like to get the titans (lived in nashville 3 years post Katrina)
It is better to fail historical, than the live in mediocrity- Unknown
Hope this goes better than last year . . .
Only 3 picks were right in last year’s mock draft, and only 2 in the right spot.
1.) BlackandGold4ever picked Aaron Maybin correctly for the Bills in the 10th pick
2.) FriarBob picked Kenny Britt correctly for the Titans with the 30th pick
3.) MobileSaint picked Mark Sanchez correctly for the Jets, but it was with the 17th pick instead of the 5th
If they take part in this year’s draft, maybe these three should get some kind of reward. Maybe first choice of team or something of the like.

nice 2009 mock review, POOP
I applaud you for your work here
"In the end, the bread was in the pudding." Bobby McCray
Hold on one goldurned minute here
Is the whole purpose of this mock to actually predict who gets picked where? Or simply to make a plausible pick and be prepared to defend it? Because if the guy you think your team will pick gets chosen by someone ahead of you in the mock, you have no chance of being right…even if you’re right.
If we’re going to be predicting for a team, we should be able to choose whoever we want…regardless of that player already being picked by someone else.

I think you're predicting what a team would do based on your best assessment of team needs and which players are left on the board when you select
"In the end, the bread was in the pudding." Bobby McCray
No the point is to pick a logical player who is left on the board at the time your team picks and defend it logically.
The review of 2009 of people actually getting the right player for the right team at the right slot is more of a “wow this was a really extra good job here” sorta thing, not a realistic goal.

In response to ME
It’s true, it’s a mock draft, and thus many people are already ‘drawing dead’ when it is their time to pick.
In total, 6 picks in the draft were draft day trades, which almost automatically disqualifies them from being able to predict correctly (though one correct pick did fall in this category, with Sanchez going to the Jets at 17 in the mock even though he went to the Jets at 5 in the real draft).
12 picks were ‘drawing dead’ picks. The player that the team chose in reality was already off the board in our mock. (example: In real life, the Rams selected Jason Smith with the 2nd pick, but in the CSC mock he was already selected 1st to the Lions . . . in this case, it was impossible for DeuceisLoose926 to get this one right).
In total, only 14 picks were ones that could have been correct. (example: when the Saints selected at 14, the pick they chose in real life, Malcolm Jenkins, was still available in the mock draft). Of these 14 picks, the CSC mock draft got two right. This is still somewhat of a poor gauge of correctness, though, as previous incorrect choices still would affect these picks. A good example is the Denver Broncos. In real life, they took Knowshown Moreno with the 12th pick, but in the CSC mock draft, Matthew Stafford was still available. It is hard to call the choice of taking Stafford incorrect, because if he was actually available at this stage in the draft, chances are they would have picked him instead.
I think the correct approach is “to make a plausible pick and be prepared to defend it” . . . but it still might be fun to reward BlackandGold4ever, FriarBob, and MobileSaint for their combination of correct picks, lucky circumstances, and just because.

I'm in
gimme a team, any team, I’ll nail the pick
Why not us?
Visit my website http://blackandgolddraft.blogspot.com/
You already know I’m in… but I’ll say it publicly anyway.
And if need be, I’ll even take the hated Fartcons, Punkthers, or Yukaneers and give them a halfway decent pick.
For those who can't remember the uncapped FA rules, this link's for you.
To avoid any fighting, I will take the Saints pick.
I think we’re all comfortable here with Saintsational Dave’s paternalism, aren’t we gals and guys? Ok then.
Dave, I was going to suggest that you award a T-shirt to those who correctly predict their assigned team’s actual pick. Until I skimmed the comments above. (Always looking for ways for you to poop-can that slow moving inventory!)
I don’t watch college football and know next to nothing of how to value the players in the upcoming draft, so I volunteer to pick for the Raiders, I think I can channel Al Davis. That kid who just ran the 4.27 40 today. Boom! Done. OK, not really. I’ll do the Raiders only if no one else wants to.
He's not retarded, but he DOES have a syndrome.
Congrats
You’re the Al Davis of our little fantasy draft.

I'll give it a go
I’ll do any team, but I do live in ATL and probably know more about the Falcons than any other non-Saints team.

"I've been waiting almost four years for this!!!" said MobileSaint when Hartley's kick split the uprights.
Never did this before
But I would like to do it.
I have to get into the habit of checking this blog out daily, you guys do awesome work!
Sure why not.
