Madden 11 Jinx!?!-Drew Brees could be on cover

Madden Jinx!?!  They (EA Sports) are letting fans decide if Drew Brees will be on the cover!  After years of debate over the cover of Madden NFL game and the "jinx" the developers are passing the decision of the cover over to the masses/fans.

http://doritoschangethegame.com/index.html

It is between 3 finalist.  Drew Brees (and he in the black pants on the web site promoting this), Jared Allen, and Reggie Wayne.  I understand some may feel like this is an honor and in a way it is and I understand this, but deep down inside I just hit that PANIC button.  That freaking Madden jinx.

A bit of history I found on the 'net on the jinx:

http://www.sportsfan4.com/football/the-madden-jinx/

  1. 2002 - Daunte Culpepper only played 11 games in the 2002 season after suffering a knee injury that made him miss the final five games of the season. The Vikings went 5-11 that season.
  2. 2003 - Marshall Faulk was a 1000 yard back from the beginning of his career up until he graced the cover of Madden in 2003. It could be from the trade to the Rams from the Colts, or it could be from the jinx.
  3. 2004 - Michael Vick broke his leg in the 2004 preseason and missed the first 11 regular season games for the Atlanta Falcons. I wonder if the Madden Jinx follows you from the beginning of the season until you end up making $10 an hour working for a construction company on house arrest for dog fighting. Maybe Vick should have been on the cover last year too.
  4. 2005 - Ray Lewis still one of the more dominant linebackers in the NFL began a decline and failed to reach 100 tackles in a season after appearing on the cover. Not to mention the allegations of murder.
  5. 2006 - Donovan McNabb appeared on the cover after losing to our very own New England Patriots the year before. McNabb only played 9 games in 2006 due to injury and eventually needed surgery.
  6. 2007 - Shaun Alexander also graces the cover after losing in the Superbowl (which now seems to be becoming a parting gift) and fractures his toe in week three. Alexander also hasn't played well since.
  7. 2008 - Vince Young appeared on the cover after LT declined (because he was afraid of what might happen) and Vince played in all 16 games of his rookie season and also brought the Titans to the playoffs. However, the following season, he got depressed and gave up his job to Kerry Collins and the Titans began a run at a perfect season.
  8. 2009 - Brett Favre dazzled the cover of Madden 09 bearing the green and yellow of the Packers after un-retiring for the 34th time. All this, only to be traded and having a new cover printed in the green and white of the Jets. Favre brought the Jets to the playoffs and threw a pick for his final pass of his career.
  9. 2010 - Troy Polamalu  MCL Sprain

In my humble opinion there are other ways for Drew Brees to get the recognition he deserves.  This is jet another call to arms for the Who Dat Nation.  Now the question remains.  Who to vote for?  Jared Allen or Reggie Wayne?

VOTE FOR ALLEN!!

I have finally found a common bond!

I say vote for Allen! I definitely do not want Reggie on the cover and I don’t want to see any bad mojo happen upon Brees, either.

It's time for a Mullet

Although Maddens’ crinckly old mug should go back on the cover.

This is silly

It’s not even accurate information. Brett Favre DID NOT lead the Jets to the playoffs; Marshall Faulk was traded to the Rams in 1999. He was on the cover in his 9th season. To put that in perspective, LaDainian Tomlinson is said to be washed up, and he just finished his 9th. Ray Lewis failed to reach 100 tackles for the first time in 2002, and was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a murder in 2000. Unless the jinx works backwards, I don’t think that counts. And Vince Young had a fine season in the year he was on the cover.

There is no jinx. But if there were, Drew would be the person to break it.

I don’t believe in the jinx either. But if it makes other people happy, I certainly will be willing to vote for Allen.

by FriarBob on Feb 4, 2010 1:48 PM CST up reply actions

It does make other people happy.

Some of the facts are fuzzy…. but the only person not to have an injury after being on the cover was Ray Lewis and Larry Fitz.

Favre had the ligament tear…. that he didn’t tell anyone about.

And Palomalu

validated it. In the one year when they put a representative of each Super Bowl team on variant covers, one had an All-Pro year, and his team made the Divisional playoff round, while the other played about 3 games, and his team missed the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl, a pretty rare occurrence.

I don’t agree with about half of the “evidence” listed in the post, but I’m just superstitious enough to want a Saint to be invited, but not accept this particular accolade.

I'm not superstitious... I'm just a little stitious... But I say, DON'T TEMPT FATE!

I want Drew to get all the recognition, money, and love that he deserves… but I don’t wanna put him in harms way.

I voted Allen, because there’s nothing that makes me not like Reggie Wayne (before/after Sunday, of course). He’s from NOLA, in case anyone didn’t know.

How many curses has Drew Brees broken since becoming a Saint?

Gotta be in the hundreds by now. What’s one more?

right.... even worse!

He lost 4 of his last 5 games with the Jets… missing the playoffs completely… because of a tear in a ligament in his (elbow?).

VOTE ALLEN!!!!

I fully believe in the Madden jinx

I’d hate the idea of Drew Brees being on the cover.

Definitely vote Allen

except they should put the green bay offensive line too, since half of his sacks came through them. not hating, just… yea kinda hating.

why are you the way that you are? honestly, every time i try to do something fun or exciting, you make it not that way. i hate so much about the things that you choose to be.

U noticed that too

that first GB/Minn match up. JA, late in the gm. went thru that OL plus a FB, to get Rodgers for a sack. All weak efforts too.

I don't think curses are really his bag.

We should probably consult with Santaria2525, or someone like that, to handle this conundrum.
