This offer confirms what Coach Sean Payton said last week, that the Saints seem happy with their current stable of tailbacks, which also includes Reggie Bush, restricted free agent Pierre Thomas and Lynell Hamilton.
I don’t think so. To leave Bell out of the first round of tendered free agents, then to give him the lowest of lowball offers after a week of speculating…he must be feeling humiliated right about now, like he’s an afterthought or something. “Oh. Mike, I apologize…I forgot you were there. You may go now.”

it's not the timing
so much as the level of the offer. Kind of says how much he’s worth to them. I think it’s a slap in the face
"Oh. Mike, I apologizeā¦I forgot you were there. You may go now."
I love movie quotes!
missed it to begin with
but wow, that’s a good one. Worth a rec without even thinking about the relevance of the post.
Wait, we made an offer to Mike Bell?
Loomis wishes he were Doc Holliday.
He ain’t.
Mike Bell is a hard runner, hard worker and a solid locker room presence.
I don’t like this.

I guess they didn’t know he was hurt towards the end of last year.
No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any f*****g Merlot!
But you must suspend belief that someone like Paul Giamatti could attract someone like Virginia Madsen…. Well.. I guess I’ve seen worse matchups than that.

that's often why I choose to go to the movies - suspension of disbelief

I suppose you didn't watch The Bachelor finale tonight either
Jesus1000, Jake…. You pick that whoor Vienna? You wrecked the franchise.
Sideways is rated 7.8/10 in IMDB. Idiocracy is 6.4. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford = 7.7 Wedding Crashers 7.2 2001: A Space Odyssey 8.4 Why and I doing this? To annoy M-E.
I got nasty habits
I know!
Three Days of the Condor 7.5; Eyes Wide Shut 7.2; What’s Up, Doc? 7.6; Bullitt 7.5; Pale Rider 7.1;
I’m on a roll, all in the 7’s.
Deal of the Century 4.1; Absolute worst movie I’ve ever seen. Remarkably bad. Suzjo4 still brings it up as a benchmark, 27 years later.
Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get I can't use
on vacation this summer, my wife says
“Let’s go see The Ugly Truth, I’ve heard good things…” GAAAAAAA!!! I can’t believe it has 6.5.
The Pillow Book (also 6.5) remains the worst movie I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen some trash. Another terrible movie that comes to mind (on tv a few days ago): Dumb and Dumberer (3.3), featured Luis Guzman, excellent actor from one of my all-time favourites, Punch-Drunk Love, which only has 7.4. Almost the same as GD Wedding Crashers.
Marley and Me
So bad that it’s star tried to kill himself* … 7.0
*Karmic repercussions of that statement are accepted by the author.
IMDB is useless
I’ve never seen either of those, but I’m going to go vote 1 on each on principle.

Reality. That’s why I like Big Brother and Amazing Race (Jeff and Jordan! “I can never tell by your face, Phil! It’s… I don’t know. My head hurts.”)

Haha!!!
Never thought those two would actually stick together. Jeff is a lucky man.

They're assuming someone will offer Bell a better deal.
When the offer is made, they’ll make a determination regarding if they want to match it dependent on how much and, more importantly, what the status of L.T. is. Everything Loomis and Payton do, they do for a reason. They obviously feel Bell is expendable. If nothing works out, they can always match the offer. If Bell’s feelings are hurt, he’ll get over it. .
I wish someone would offer me a $1.1m contract to hurt my feelings
Damn.

they could hurt a lot more than my feelings for 1.1 mil BIG ONES

Either way
I don’t see them worrying over Bell or LT. I think there’s a better probability of drafting someone like Hardesty in the third or fourth round. Maybe LT would be a stop-gap while a rookie spends time on the practice squad. That thinking however does nothing for short yardage rushing. If they do that, let’s hope Hamilton matures into that role.

Do we think anyone will match that?
Honestly, he was about an average back last year. $1.176 million is about what he is worth that this point. I don’t think he should be upset with it. Averaging 50 yards a games isn’t anything that I don’t think Lynell Hamilton could do under similar circumstances. Let him stay or let him walk. I don’t think it will phase the team.

way off-topic, but
Does any one know if our Man Mike was part of that Saints crew that opened Wall Street? Bell ringing the bell would have been pretty nice.

44 attempts for 90 yards over the last 5 games of the year....
I’m kind of surprised they’re allocating a potential roster spot on him.
He DOES run hard…but always seems injured. One thing this kind of puts to rest though, I think, is the LT rumors, we won’t need any more RB’s with Reggie, Pierre, LH and Bell on the team.
That's just the opposite of what I read into this....

If another team offers Bell a contract, they don’t have to give the SAINTS a draft pick in compensation! They just get the back that they want. Sure they could have just not offered him anything, but I wonder if this was just supposed to be something to get someone else interested in him….

They could have just released him with no offer
I think this is just a courtesy to Mike Bell. Just a way of saying that if he is going to another team, at least they will have to pay him more than a league minimum. For the Saints its kind of a “what do we have to lose?” situation. If he signs elsewhere, we still have 3 capable backs. If he stays, we still aren’t paying him hardly anything, making it easy to do whatever we need to with him as the season progresses.
