Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

"Coach Lovie Smith, I have the utmost respect for him. I've played against him for so many years and seen how he's built that program in Chicago. I'm a firm believer in what he's doing up there. I love the Chicago fans. Wherever I go, I want to go to a great fan base, and Chicago has one of the best fan bases of all the teams in the NFL."

Eh?

Now I don’t want Sharper back. I hope Loomis cuts him loose so he can kiss up to them.

But I'll still take him back

Even though he insulted us fans.

That wasn’t very nice. But he has a fantastic smile.

I wouldn't call that an insult.

He didn’t add “Unlike that last damn team.”

Plus he’s a free agent, so where he could be going is back to NO.

??????

Man feels a little slighted, he wants to work, he wants to play for a winning organization???? Where is the slight to us…if anything we are not showing him much love. IMHO we should have pulled him aside when we knew we were not going to hang the franchise tag on him and said, “Darren we want you back, we think 6 or 7 million is too high so…test the free agency market, that will establish your value and we will sign you at or close to your highest offer…boom! We can both know that you are getting what you are worth and we are paying what you are worth…don’t worry be happy and stay a Saint!”
Just seems like he played a big part in our success this year…I want him BACK!

I suspect that they did just that. And that now he’s trying now to drum up extra high offers from other teams.

HOLD ON A MINUTE.......

We haven’t even tendered him yet….. How does he know that we will? The guy’s interviewing for a job! Don’t you say all the right things when you’re on an interview? It’s not like we (Loomis) made an offer and he turned it down, we told him ‘Go see what you can get on the open market, and then we’ll decide if we want you back that bad’. What else is the guy supposed to do? Loomis is deciding if he comes back or not. So I can’t be mad at the guy.

rec: exactly right

Say your job contract expires, and your boss tells you he’ll offer you a new one soon, but not yet, and not the huge pay rise you want for doing so well this last year, you know, the one that means you can retire and install a pool, what are you gonna do?

Personally, I’m going to apply for a few jobs anyway, just in case. And I’m gonna tell every one of them that I love their place the most. Instead of saying “Well, you’re alright, but the Saints crap all over this place, and your coach is an idiot. Call me back, though, if they think I’m too old.”

by Jay Preece on Mar 2, 2010 12:15 AM CST up reply actions

Not exactly sure of the legality

but it sounds awfully close to tampering. Isn’t D# under contract still?

by WhoDat_OH on Mar 2, 2010 12:59 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Guys get your facts straight

Sharper is UNRESTRICTED, he’s now without a contract and he goes wherever he wants… If he wants to head to Chicago good for him… having said this, this is what Payton yesterday had to say on the issue during the chat on NFL.com

“We’d love to have him back and that process starts in three days” .

That’s the beginning of the Free Agency. Sharper will stick his nose out and the Saints will offer him a deal then. Like they did with Vilma one year ago.

No sweat, but if he is gone so be it. It is the system….

Bring the wood

Actually

…he’s not a free agent until the 5th, right? That’s when the new fiscal year starts, I thought. If that’s the case, he’s still under contract, and nobody should be talking to him. Now, he’s still free to talk to the press, and that’s all he did…as far as we know.

Yeah he can talk but the teams can’t.

Not that such restrictions come remotely close to actually stopping, well, anybody. Except maybe the 49ers after they got punished for doing what everybody else does as well.

If da Bears take Sharper they should have to take Ditka back too...

and his dreadlocks. Too many bad memories from those years.

Shut-up Sharper

I get he’s trying to look for a job. So keep negotiations between himself and potential employers. It’s the using of the media that is bothering me. It’s setting up him or us for embarassment and then one of us is going to end up getting pissed off. He and his big chompers better zip it before he talks himself right out of town.

boom rec'd it

He needs to collect his competing offers and fax them to Mickey. They’ll get a deal done, but it won’t be $6M for 2010, Even I think that’s stupid.

It’s such a sound retort, that I feel the need to use it as often as possible. Even when I’m watching TV.

Commercial: “I’m not gonna pay a lot for this muffler!”

Me: “Dude, Tom Benson doesn’t work at Meineke. And even if he did, it’s an uncapped year and they’re an industry leader. Why are you sweating this?”
