Saints haven't shown enough "love" yet?
Love=$$$$, or, with fear of getting sued by the NFL, “Cha-Ching!”
He’s not going to get a lot of visits on crutches.
Kinda tacky
“Love” definitely = $$$$. I like Darren and all, but a classier way to say it is “they are all still negotiating a contract agreement.” He’s 34 years old and on crutches. I don’t know how much more “love” he thinks he should get. I want him back and all, but at a reasonable price. I’m sure Payton and Loomis feel the exact same way.
"As soon as Tony (Dungy) said we had no chance, I knew we had 'em right where we wanted 'em"--Coach Sean Payton right after Super Bowl XLIV with the Lombardi Trophy firmly in hand. WHO DAT!!
"Not enough love"?
Is Darren a whore now? Love is a matter of a bigger check?
Hey Darren, you remember that parade between the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras? That was love. You won’t get that anywhere else.

I guess nothing compares to what he got on that boat in Minnesota...
Oh, I forget, he wasn’t on that boat, right?
In the beginning, Mr. T created the heavens and the earth. And Mr. T said, "Let there be fools"; and there were fools. And Mr. T saw that the fools were bad; and pitied them.

Personally
I think Sharper is showing his “other” side and, frankly, it’s quite a turn off.

does this mean we're thin at corner?
doesn’t look like he’s coming back, and now Jenkins can assume his true role. Randall Gay as our No. 3 CB is scary to me…

"I have all of the love in the world for Darren Sharper. I just don't have all the money in the world for Darren Sharper." Mickey Loomis
we're seeing some backlash here, Darren
Perhaps we should not have tried to embarrass Mickey by making him appear cheap.
And if I say I wanna set you free
Don't you know you'll be in misery
I understand he's probably looking at his last NFL contract
but I don’t think he should overplay his hand here. He’s getting old – ancient for his position in the NFL – and is coming off of surgery. And there is still the possibility of a work stoppage after this coming season and he might never play again after this year. Hopefully this is all posturing and he comes to his senses, because I don’t think the Saints are trying to low-ball him.
I think he has seen his last contract...........Shut up and play ball or go sit on the couch
and watch……………..I wish my job paid me 1.7 mill a year………….To Play 16 games ( 4 months)
My Magnificent Black and Gold Warriors
because I don’t think the Saints are trying to low-ball him.
Sharper made $1.7M last year. We don’t know what the Saints offer to him is for 2010, but it is less than the franchise tag of $6M+.
If the Saints are offering him less than $2M, they are definitely low-balling him.
Nothing wrong with paying a guy more in his 2nd year for less production, it makes up for underpaying him in the first year. He was a steal in 2009.
The radio was playin'
Her fingertips were strayin'
Her mama didn't know she was there
Sure he was a steal.
His record for the previous seasons wasn’t good. He looked like he was getting old. The Saints paid him accordingly. The fact that he played incredibly well doesn’t change the fact that the organization was taking a chance on him. I disagree that he was underpaid the first year. He simply outplayed projections.
Now, should he get more in his 2nd season? Absolutely. Sharper has proven that his flat play in Minnesota was probably more their system than his age. He is flourishing under GW and, barring major injuries, should continue to do so until his age really does catch up with him. But he won’t get franchise player money (6 mill). Unless they really are lowballing him to the tune of 2 mill. he should take the money and play for an organization and a fanbase that appreciates him and wants him back. There’s the love. Real love.
"Don't ever sell your saddle, cause life's a long, long ride."
If he is worth so much money
Why isn’t he signed a contract somewhere else. Whenever I think Sharper I see a guy making great INTs and then I cant help but remember the 1st play of the 2009-10 playoffs.
Why isn’t he signed a contract somewhere else.
Because he’s 34 years old and currently hobbling around on crutches, post surgery.
The radio was playin'
Her fingertips were strayin'

Not enough love?
Darren, I challenge you to find a NFL city with more reasonably priced prostitutes than New Orleans. How much more love do you need to be shown?! Sure Detroit hookers may be cheaper, but their meth addictions really detract from value. What? That’s not the “love” he meant? Then disregard this post.

A quote posted on Rotoworld:
Free agent FS Darren Sharper indicated Wednesday that he feels low-balled by the Saints’ initial contract offers.
“If the love was right, that would have been taken care of,” he said. “The love would have been reciprocated.” Sharper, coming off arthroscopic knee surgery, plans to begin formally taking free agent visits within “a week or so.”

I Hate This . . .
It’s just a total buzzkill to have these kind of riffs before the guys even have their rings.
I don’t blame Sharper, even though I think he’s not handling it particularly well. He’s a football player, not a businessman, and I’m sure he felt like all of the Championship euphoria would be a kind of substitute for realistic negotiations.
And I don’t blame Mickey, either. He IS a businessman, and a hell of a businessman, and he is trained to look at business with a cold eye, particularly when you’re emotionally as well as financially invested.
That being said, I think that it would be worth it for the Saints to overpay Sharper an extra 2 million on a 2 year contract and possibly put some kind of injury clause stipulation in the contract. Fujita had been a good candidate for replacement for the last 2 seasons and his value to the Saints was a lot more sentimental than practical, but I was still sorry to see him go. Sharper is a true impact player and a sentimental favorite—seeing this great league veteran and first-year Saint lead the WhoDat chant on the sidelines was one of the great joys of the season—so his departure would be a drag for both nostalgic and competetive reasons.
I hope they get a deal done, but I’m going to yield to Mickey Loomis’ wisdom on the matter. He’s been the Drew Brees of the business end.

That's it.
Fed up with Sharper negociating through the medias. Give Young or Jenkins a shot at FS and stop waisting valuable UFA “hunt” time on Darren. Since Usama did pretty good in training camp, I wouldn’t mind having him as a starter with Jenkins on nickels and dimes. How about using that money to pay our six-footer under center anyway?
Worst case scenario, “porcelain” Gay is still on the field. Otherwise, I’m pretty comfortable with our two youngsters. They did both show some skills…
One last thought.
Again!
Nah, that's just some dust in my eye....
If Sharper is counting on the masses of the Who Dat Nation
to make an argument for him I suspect that he’s out of luck. We are seeing the Mr. Hyde side of Darren. A 35 year old cripple does not have a strong negotiating position. If he thinks that he should get paid for sentimental reasons, then adios Muchacos..With the recent discovery of his other side, do we really want him in the locker room next season. One leads by example and so far post season he has set a poor one. If he is wanting “Sympathy” by whinning then he can findi it in the dictionary between Sh#T and Syphillis. He will get none from me….

Hey it's just business
I ain’t mad at Sharper wanting a bigger check. Who on this thread wouldn’t want a bigger check from your employer? I mean come on. But the team got to do what the team got to do to. It’s just business on both sides of the ball baby. Sharp got to try and get it now he’s only got 1 or 2 years left. He’s knows that, the front office knows that and he’s coming off a surgery. Everybody knows that in the league. He ain’t gon get it, but he/his agent got to ask for it, the team would be crazy to give it to him. It’s just the game. So don’t hate the playa hate the game! Showing The Love
Just in case you don’t get Sharper’s perspective, the money offered shows the amount of respect that the Saints have for him. I understand both sides of the fence here, and it is a business decision. Sharper feels as if the Saints have disrespected him after the season that he put up by failing to act in a hurry to secure his services for the rest of his career, or 3 years, whichever comes first. The Saints aren’t going “Bears Crazy” in free agency and just throwing money at people because of an uncapped year. They now have stock as a Super Bowl caliber team and some Free Agents want to be a part of that kind of team. Both sides are trying to do what is best for them. Sharper’s mangina got hurt when the Saints didn’t franchise him, the Saints feel that Sharper won’t hold up for the duration of the contract he wants. I say, give Sharper a 6 mill offer for two years, 2.5 mil guaranteed. If he doesn’t bite, then so be it, we can work Young into the mix.

Whatever
The Saints offered Sharper 3 yrs/11 mil with 6 mil guaranteed, frontloaded I believe bc of the uncapped year. Any team willing to pay more than that is high. Sharper is just trying to get another team interested to drive up the price.

Never heard Dat either
Dallas media is talkin about the ‘boys interest in sharper. I wouldn’t mind tryin to steal sensebaugh from them( our first choice a year ago) especially if sharper wants a 3 yr deal. Let Jerry make that mistake.

Sharper is showing his own love
Free agent FS Darren Sharper believes he would be a good fit with the Jets.
Sharper says he has the “utmost respect” for coach Rex Ryan and loves his aggressive scheme. Sharper added that “there’s something about the big lights and the big city that fits me.” He also expressed interest in playing for the Bears, another team with a need at safety.
