Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

The New Orleans Saints, winners of Super Bowl XLIV, are one of just five professional sports teams to be nominated in the Professional Sports Team of the Year category for the 2010 Sports Business Awards presented by Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily.

Joining the Saints as finalists for the award are the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, MLB's Philadelphia Philles, MLS entry the Seattle Sounders and the NHL's Washington Capitals.

Good job, Mickey. And Vicky, way to go, keeping that fax machine up and humming.

Since basketball, baseball, soccer and hockey aren't real sports I think the Saints have this one locked up.

IMHO. :-)

I will agree with all of the above

Except for Hockey. Blasphemy!!!

"I have seen women walk right past a TV set with a football game on and - this always amazes me - not stop to watch, even if the TV is showing replays of what we call a "good hit," which is a tackle that causes at least one major internal organ to actually fly out of a player's body."

Were the Cavs the champions of the NBA last year? Um, no: they lost to the Magic in the Eastern Conference finals.

Were the Phillies the World Series champions? Um, no: they lost to the Yankees.

Were the Capitals the Stanley Cup champions? Um, no: they lost to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference semis.

Were the Sounders…um, what? What the hell are “Sounders”? Oh, soccer…move along.

The Saints were Super Bowl champions. That’s “Super Bowl,” as in “the friggin’ SUPER BOWL, pal.” The Saints were one of the most remarkable stories in all of sports, completing a 4-year turnaround from chumps to champs. They’re a team of castoffs and free agents and low draft picks, and they set the standard not only for their play on the field but for their commitment to the community off the field. I don’t know what their profit margin is; but if you’re judging the team as a sports team, they’re obviously the most successful out of the nominees. And it’s not even close.
