Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Adam "Pacman" Jones

Well, well, well look who just had a private pro-day workout in front of five NFL teams yesterday at Hahnville High School. Pacman himself appears to be on a mission to get himself straightened out, and it appears that the Saints are interested, and you've got to think that Jones is interested too, considering he's familiar with the area and he decided to work out down here. We all know what Pacman does, some good and some bad (that's kind of an understatement), but should the Saints give him a shot if he really has turned it around? Let the opinions flow.

NOT

a fan at all, but they gave Hargrove a second chance and I believe that turned out well for the Saint’s. He is rather scary but if a team can bring him around it is this one. But what has he got left in the tank.

Agree

Give him a low but reasonable wage. Place extreme emphasis on performance not guaranteed money. Greer is not getting any younger. Hell Stalenworth killed someone and he is back in the game.

Greer is only 28

and hasn’t played much. He’s still got plenty of tread on the tires.

I wouldn't mind getting half the "love" that the Saints are willing to give Sharper...

Didn't anyone here watch the Cowboys on Hardknocks?

That Adam Jones could not be a New Orleans Saint. And I doubt that he has changed his ways since then. And you can poop-can any ideas about him returning punts, he could hardly field them.

He couldn’t even get picked up by the reclamation drop off spot of the NFL, Cincinnati:
rotoworld.com:

Pacman Jones-DB- Cowboys Feb. 28 – 1:35 pm et
Free agent Pacman Jones will hold a workout for NFL scouts on March 19. Hopefully, he’ll show up in shape for this one. Pacman drew awful reviews for his workout with the Bengals earlier this month, and went unsigned by the most forgiving franchise in the NFL. Cincinnati also needs a nickel back.

 Pacman Jones-DB- Cowboys Feb. 19 – 3:10 pm et
SI.com’s Don Banks believes that free agent Pacman Jones’ tryout for the Bengals last week confirmed that his career is over.
Pacman reportedly showed up to the workout out of shape and made excuses for his troubled past. “As his tryout…illustrated yet again, he can’t play anymore,” Banks says. “If he could, he’d still be in the Cowboys’ secondary. The chucklehead wasted his talent, and blew his career. End of sad story.”

Looks like the Lions and 49ers have some interest in him too

I don’t really think we need him, but it might be worth a league minimum to bring him on for a season to see if he behaves. However, if other teams want to make a higher offer then I don’t think it would be worth it for us to try and outbid anyone.

Is this a joke?

Sure we’ve given guys like Hargove and Carl Nicks a shot after being bad boys, but didn’t Dallas try this and it failed miserably? Not even because his off the field stuff. He sucked on the field…

by vanondubs on Mar 20, 2010 11:42 AM CDT reply actions

Bingo!

Besides which: has Pacman ever even apologized for leaving that guy paralyzed in Vegas? Ever admitted even the slightest tinge of responsibility? Not that I heard, although I have to admit I don’t subscribe to his Twitter feed. [is that how it works? I don’t do Twitter at all] I’ll believe he’s “changed” when he tries to do something real about his past.

To lump Carl Nicks

in with Pacman and Hargrove is a bit much. The “trouble” he was in while in college was something silly like being at a party too late. I don’t associate Carl Nicks with character issues whatsoever.

I'm kind of conflicted about T.O.

The guy has never had any kind of run in with the law. For all of the rumors about how much of a horrible guy he is, he’s never been in the headlines that I can remember for any kind of violation of any law. The biggest thing he is guilty of is just being a jerk.

If NFL teams are willing to look past Leonard Little and Dante Stallworth’s manslaughter convictions, Mike Vick’s dogfighting conviction, Jared Allen’s 3 DUIs, Jamal Lewis’s cocaine trafficking, Larry Johnson’s repeated assault convictions….do I need to continue?….. then it really says a lot about either T.O. or the NFL as a whole that teams can’t look past him being a jerk.

yeah

that’s the way I feel. This isn’t NY and T.O. has calmed in his older age. I don’t think it would be as big a problem has everyone imagines it. I don’t view it as a possibility, I’m just playing devils advocate here.

The media said the same thing about Shockey

and look how that turned out. He’s been relatively civilized as a Saint. You could say he’s acting like a Saint.

Couldnt resist the pun.

The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault. -Ty Cobb

Shockey has a lot of havoc to wreak before he could be considered anywhere T.O.

T.O. has wrecked a lot of locker rooms. He works hard, stays in great shape, NEVER in trouble with the law. Not a bad human being, as a teammate he SUCKS

How can you unrec?

NO parts of T.O. are wanted in a SAINTS uniform. We have a set of WRs that care about winning and contributing, not how many catches they individually get. TO is a cancer and we don’t need that guy here under ANY circumstances!! I’m getting pissed off thinking about this. NO WAY to TO!!!

The popular method is to scream "ANTI-REC"

but I think you made your point.

I have to agree. And I like TO a lot. But it’s 2010 and he’s done. He’d be a better fit on a younger, developing team.

Rotoworld.com:

Terrell Owens-WR- Bills Mar. 20 – 10:29 am et
Dolphins QB Chad Henne admitted that he wouldn’t mind seeing the Fins bring in a veteran receiver like Terrell Owens or Brandon Marshall this offseason.
“There’s T.O. [Terrell Owens]. There’s Brandon Marshall. Where we’re at, we have a bunch of young guys who are definitely learning…But you need kind of a veteran guy that’s really going to take hold of our young guys and teach them the right ways,” said Henne.

he's

been a great receiver but sucks dearly as a team player in rough times. We had times this season that cooler heads won us games, TO types would have blown.

Pacman himself appears to be on a mission to get himself straightened out,

He’s been on that mission since 2005, his rookie year. Quit trying to imagine him as Anthony Hargrove. He’s no Anthony Hargrove. Closer to Rae Carruth. A pox on him. If he couldn’t even hack it in Dallas. A waste. Let a penal institution have him.

with TO it's not about if he would work well with Drew

it’s about would he work well with the other receivers and Payton. I think there would be zero chance of that.

TO

Brings a lot of attention, and a little talent. I think it would be somewhat strange and Ironic for TO to end up on the very team that ended his consecutive games with a catch streak. I would actually find that downright amusing.

Pacman, on the other hand, brings very little amusement to me. He is not that old, but he is not in football shape either. While I do think Gregg Williams could bring him around to the concept of team play, living up to his full potential, and giving every play his all, and I do believe he could make a positive impact in our secondary – his personal issues are killing him. Taking Pacman in New Orleans, with Burbon Street right around the corner, and his penchant for “making it rain”, might not be the safest idea that we could possibly contemplate.

To me, both players could contribute, they could still do great things with their ability and talent, they could benefit from our system as our players benefit from their experience, the real question is could both, or even one, of these egos coexist in the lockerroom with the humility of our respectful Superbowl Champions, the ego and genius of Gregg Williams, and the brass balls of Sean Payton?

by SaintsFanInIraq on Mar 22, 2010 1:58 AM CDT reply actions

In TO’s case, I love what the guy brings to the field — emphasis on field — I just don’t think it would be much more than what the current WRs do in this particular system. His speed is probably in the same ball park as Colston’s now and none of our guys dropped many balls this past season. Without the jets, a catch is a catch. There’s only so much you can do with open space. Above all else, at 14 years in the league, his veteran minimum price tag would likely represent that of Arrington + another player. That means that some faceless 53rd player would be leeching off the long term lockdown money of a Drew Brees, Jahri Evans, etc. I’d rather have all those core guys squared away money-wise, before we start taking on additional luxuries. Same goes for Darren Sharper or any UFA demanding that much coin, based simply on their tenure.

Pac-Man’s a whole different ball of wax, one I wouldn’t mind the Saints exploring a lot more closely than they appear willing to.

The idea of Pacman

while I do like his nickname, I think if Hargrove was still on the team, that maybe he could do some in helping Pacman resist the temptations of NO. I know that he is young and he may just need a team like the Saints to put his life into perspective. I know that both SP and GW will make sure he walks the straight and narrow. We have the personnel that if he doesn’t he will be riding the bench next season. He still has talent, and like some people say, you just can’t teach that kind of talent.
