Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Heard an interesting tidbit yesterday

I'm actually sure some of y'all that follow free agency and stuff already know this, but I thought it was fodder for a "what if" talk. Seems Jarvis Green, former LSU player and kinda current New England DE, is a free agent! I did some work at his mom and dads house yesterday, and his dad told me he is a free agent. Wonder what the chances are of getting him here?? A local boy, with local ties....he has the experience to seriously help us (IMO). What do y'all think?  I'm not necessarily talking whether we can afford him or not, but him as a player for the Saints...good fit or bad?

Remember the FA rules? Even if he is a fit, we can’t get him until somebody more valuable leaves.

For those who can't remember the uncapped FA rules, this link's for you.

Last season...

I seem to remember an interview with him saying that he wanted to come play in NOLA. With the FA rules, not sure how it will happen, but if both sides are willing to find a way…

With the 32nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints take... The suspense is killing me!

Jarvis Green-DL – Patriots Jul. 22 – 3:36 pm et
Patriots contract-year DE Jarvis Green attempted Wednesday to clarify a statement he made to a Louisiana newspaper, which he told he’d “love to come home and finish off as a Saint.” He was also quoted as saying, “this is my last year with the Patriots.” “I don’t think I said it like that,” Green said Wednesday. “Me being from Louisiana and playing at LSU and…you say it would be a dream to play for the Saints. But I’d love to stay a Patriot.” Green is due $2.9 million this season.

He’s 31 and has 3 sacks in his last 26 games.

Bring him in to please the LSU!! LSU!! fans?? Why?? The Superdome is a sure sellout for this season and probably the next.

Awww STU

why you had to go bust my dream bubble? How many people have WE lost over the years that went on to new teams and done WAY better than what they did here? Why can’t that happen in reverse? Why can’t a player who is just past his prime, not come here and have a “second coming”?

And concerning the FA rules. If I’m a player, and am a FA, can I say no? Either sign me or release me to sign with someone else. FA means….what…..concerning a players contract? He can’t go somewhere else….period? I’m the first to admit, I don’t have the foggiest idea how free agency works.

I think we should all be worshipping Devery Henderson more than we do

And oh yes, he’s going somewhere:
rotoworld.com:

Jarvis Green-DL- Patriots Feb. 27 – 5:11 pm et
Boston Globe reporter Albert Breer expects the Broncos to show interest in free agent DE Jarvis Green. New England isn’t making a bid to re-sign Green, who has just three sacks in his last 26 games. He’d be a rotational pass rusher in Denver’s 3-4.
Can he even play in a mostly 4-3 defense?

Tully Banta-Cain-LB – Patriots Sep. 15 – 3:08 pm et
The Patriots used a 4-3 defense in Monday night’s opener, with Tully Banta-Cain starting at right defensive end. TBC had four tackles (three solo) and a game-high two sacks. Ty Warren was at left end, while Jarvis Green and Vince Wilfork started inside. Derrick Burgess rotated in heavily, finishing with three solo stops and a sack. The 4-3 allows the Pats to get upfield more, and involves less gap control.

I’d rather sign former LSU Tiger and New England Patriot Marquise Hill. He’s said to have one of the best swim moves in the league, for getting into the backfield.

If we're going after LSU players, how about

raiding the Chief’s D-line…

PS. I have no idea how those guys are doing in the NFL, but they were drafted high the last two years.

Dorsey

Has almost become invisible. I haven’t heard anything out of him since the draft unless it was bad. He was having trouble getting into the backfield and shutting down the run. He hasn’t been as effective as that first round tag indicated, but then again, Rickey Williams didn’t seem to produce what we thought he would, until he went to Miami. I think that Dorsey is big enough to get double teams off of Smith in the pass rush, but I don’t know if he is quick enough to break the line down in order to stop the run before it gets too far. If we could pick up Dorsey pretty cheap it might be worth a shot. We could always move Hargrove back to DE and put Dorsey next to Smith to see if Smith produces double digit Sacks again..
