Pierre Thomas: Respect!!
Rosenthal:
One name to keep an eye on is Saints Super Bowl hero Pierre Thomas. He got a second round tender from New Orleans, which isn't that much to give up for a young, versatile, proven starter. ...In the case of Thomas, we wonder if the Saints undersold him.
The comments section is very pleasing, almost totally positive regarding PT. Give it a skim. Here are some samples:
C'mon Seahawks, go get this guy!
Very good RB with a huge heart to win. Team player and solid citizen. He'd be worth a 2nd rounder for a team wanting a running back.
He would look good in NE uni
Go get him Steelers
This guy I like, even though he hurt my Colts. The dude just refused to be tackled.

I'm worried
Definitely too low a tender. Might bite us in the ass.

it's a very attractive tender for other teams
I’m sure the Saints would match any offer.

Yes, but it would still be his option to stay or leave. Just because you match an offer, doesn’t mean a player won’t take the “if you throught I was worth that much, then why didn’t you offer me that upfront?” attitude and bail. That’s what exactly what happened with Sam Mills, when Carolina came a-calling. Finks matched … Mills walked. Not saying Thomas would do the same, but from a player’s perspective, I can’t say I really blame the guys that do get jaded over contract negotiations. I know I’d probably go elsewhere, if I felt my employer was lowballing me, or “letting the market dictate their offer”.

I agree PT is prob worth more
but I think he will stay. We are his only team in his NFL career, he’s been treated exceptionally well, he knows he is questionable re being a "featured/ every down back ) as far as longevity ( he’s had a considerable # of injuries- even though mostly minor) and to lure him away a team would have to be significantly more of a SB contender than the Saints- what team is that?
I expect his offer will go up one way or another (matching offers morm incentives)- I think Payloo wants Pt but not at 4- 5 mil.

I think a lot of the fans expressing interest in Thomas aren’t all that familiar with his injury history. He’s one of those under the radar backs, like a Leon Washington or Kevin Jones that simply don’t get a lot of press, primarily due to always splitting the workload with someone else. As I’ve mentioned before, I view him as equally talented with Ryant Grant, which is roughly a 2nd round value. To call him a STEAL at that level of compensation is overstating his value, I think. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate his effort, he means an awful lot to the offense and I really don’t think he’ll walk … but if he does happen to leave for a 2nd, it’s not the end of the world. He can be replaced fairly easily on Day 1 of the draft. All I’m saying is, he’s not franchise RB material and that’s really all anyone should be parting with a first round pick for.

we pretty much got him for free
not really, but we didn’t use a draft pick to get him, and he could potentially turn us a 2nd rounder, which isn’t too bad, I would hate to see him go though.

I hear Redskins let Rock Cartright go… He has some potential, if he shares carries. (unless he’s injured).
