2010 Free Agency Open Thread
In just a few minutes, the NFL's 2010 free agency period will begin. And when the clock strikes 12:01am ET, Darren Sharper, Scott Fujita, Billy Miller and a few other players will no longer be under contract with the Saints.
As is often the case, there can be a lot of action immediately following the start of the free agency period. So if you are awake and scouring the interweb right now, or will be watching NFL Live in front of your computer like myself, you've got a home here on this thread to talk live about anything related to free agency.
I will be awake for a little while so if anything big happens around the league, I will update this post.
Updates:
Lions acquire DT Corey Williams from Cleveland Browns - ESPN
Chargers agree to trade CB Antonio Cromartie to Jets for 2011 draft pick - NFL.com
Panthers releasing Jake Delhomme - Fox Sports

it annoyed me at first
I thought “If I’m a player in flux, I don’t want Mickey faxing me at midnight. I don’t want my crazy agent calling me up” I’m really old.

Rotoworld.com:
Antonio Cromartie-DB- Jets Mar. 4 – 10:28 pm et
Jets acquired CB Antonio Cromartie from the Chargers in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2011.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the pick can upgrade to a second-rounder depending on Cromartie’s playing time and the Jets’ performance. No one is disputing Cromartie’s freakish natural talent, but Chargers GM A.J. Smith did well to pick up a valuable pick. Between Cromartie’s myriad off-field issues and nonchalant on-field attitude, the Jets are taking quite a gamble. Of course, if Cromartie ever gets his head on straight, Rex Ryan’s secondary will rise to a new level of dominance.

Julius Peppers-DL- Panthers Mar. 5 – 12:09 am et
Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston reports that the Bears are intent on not letting free agent Julius Peppers get away.
Zierlein earlier reported that the Redskins were nearing a deal for Peppers. He now writes on Twitter that, “This feels like a gunfight,” and points out that Bears DL coach “(Rod) Marinelli might end up being (a) big draw for Peppers.” Meantime, Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears “are the front-runner” for Peppers. He’s due to visit Friday.

Regarding Jahri Evans
According to Adam Schefter the Saints are on the verge of making Jahri Evans potentially the highest paid guard in league history. It looks like we will be keeping him for the long haul.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
I got no problem with that.
He is worth it.

Yes, Sean Payton is the new Zorro. He leads wild adventures, quaffs the finest wines, embarrasses his enemies and leaves a extravagant calling card in his wake. Try as you might to stop him, but he's always one sip ahead.

Good enough....
….as long as they have enough room to lock up Drew and PT…and resign D# and Reggie to restructured contracts.
Anthony
Aaron Kampman?
Proven quality as a 4-3 DE, could be an ideal replacement for Grant.
Maybe GDub thinks Hargrove is Grants replacement, and he's looking for a DT now... maybe.

here Kampman would be nice, but Sharper would have to go first.

Chester Taylor reported to have signed with Chicago Bears...

And…Schifter is saying that Peppers will be locked up for ’Da Bears shortly.
Not bad a killing for this morning for Chi-Town.

rotoworld.com:
Chester Taylor-RB- Bears Mar. 5 – 2:02 pm etIt’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Bears agreed to terms with RB Chester Taylor on a four-year, $12.5 million contract, including $7 million guaranteed.
Matt Forte becomes a committee back, and it’s believed he may even lose his starting job. Kevin Jones, who missed all of 2009 with a serious ankle injury, will likely be released. Taylor is going on age 31 and managed just 3.6 yards per carry last season, but has caught at least 41 passes in four of the last five years. He’ll be the immediate favorite for passing-down duties, which is a vital role in pass-happy play-caller Mike Martz’s system.

No deal (yet) for Jahri Evans...
http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&line=169149&id=3933
Despite an earlier report to the contrary, beat writer Mike Triplett insists no long-term deal with RG Jahri Evans appears imminent.
Both sides are interested in an extension, though “there is no immediate pressure on either side to reach a quick agreement.” Evans has emerged as arguably the best guard in the NFL, so the Saints will likely complete a deal this offseason.
