I was just tweeted that if the saints don't sign me back he would have to stop following me! That's cool but I will always a SAINT, Who Dat!

Forget the business side of the NFL, this is what I like to see from Saints players past, present and future. Take notes, Sharper.

Once a Saint, always a Saint. Players don’t have to say it. It goes without saying. Billy Miller will always be a Houston Texan, too. He scored the first points in that franchise’s history and enjoyed his best years as a pro there. It would be naive to think he doesn’t have a soft spot for his time there, as well. Had Twitter been around at the time he left, I’m sure he would have tweeted something similiar. I suppose affirmations of undying devotion are cool, just not something I put a whole lot of weight into. I know there are hundreds of former Saints who bleed black & gold … you just don’t hear them say it, because they’re out of the spotlight. And even of the few you do, it never stopped them from pursuing a career elsewhere … Bobby Hebert, Morten Andersen, Rickey Jackson, etc. To me, it’s comparable to someone saying “good morning” at a bus stop. It’s a nice gesture, but I would never think less of that person, if I didn’t hear them say it.

Except Billy Kilmer. His little 2009 quote was BS.

Probably so. Sort of understandable, as he didn’t begin or end his career here, wasn’t given the opportunity to play halfback, got slammed into the turf just as frequently, if not moreso than Manning, led the Redskins to the Super Bowl after the fact, etc. His so-called love for the Saints would be comparable to Drew Bledsoe’s love for the Bills. Only Gary Cuozzo never had a breakfast cereal named after him.

Don’t know if you caught it, but the Miami Herald ran a column on Super Bowl morning with a ton of quotes from former players of both the Colts and Saints. Might be able to find the article online. I wish I would have kept it.

Ken Stabler and Billy Kilmer came to Okinawa on a USO tour about six years ago.

They were at the commissary signing autographs. I asked Billy if he had a picture of him in a Saints uniform. All I got was a look of annoyance and a, “Hell no.”

Screw you, Kilmer. Stablers SB ring was bigger than yours!

Ooooops, sorry. You don’t have one, do you!!!

Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

I don't expect Sharper to feel the same way as Miller

he hasn’t been with the team as long. Sure, Sharper’s one year in NOLA was memorable, but if you asked him what team is closer to his heart between the Saints, Packers and Vikings, I have a feeling the Saints would be #3 on that list. At this point in his career Sharper is a hired mercenary. I’m sure he enjoyed this past season a lot, and he really appreciated the Saints fans, but does he bleed black and gold? Probably not. Let’s face it, Sharper played one year for the Saints at a price that he probably considers the bargain of the century. He’s out for money while he can still get it (for a couple more years), and he’s out for #1. Most athletes are. I don’t have a problem with Sharper at all, and neither should you Dave. You should accept him for what he is. A guy looking to get paid while he still has a little left in the tank and while his value is the highest it’ll be in a 5 year span. Most NFL players get paid a lot, but they also have shorter life spans AND they have to provide for themselves and their family as they often retire by the age of 35 or younger. In the grand scheme of things, over a career, I’m not convinced NFL players are making that much more than the average career of an upper middle class American worker that generates a better income per year well into his 50’s. Think about it, most NFL careers last 3 years. I’m not saying Sharper is ever gonna hurt for money, and I’m sure he’ll get plenty of post playing opportunities, but the dude comes into NOLA at a very low comparative price for one year and all of a sudden we expect the dude to be extremely loyal? He knows how it works. He’s already been backstabbed by Green Bay and Minnesota. You think he’s gonna trust the Saints to take care of him, the team that lowballed him? I don’t think his behavior is out of line. he’s looking out for himself. It’s understandable and he should.
