Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Vikings signed CB Lito Sheppard to a one-year, $2 million contract. Sheppard, 29, finished last season with 31 tackles, one interception, and eight pass breakups. While he fills a need [sic] should be an upgrade in dime sets over Karl Paymah, Sheppard is highly injury prone and inconsistent in coverage. The Vikings will be in trouble if he's forced to make spot starts.

Sheppard recently visited the Lions, but left without a deal. It's odd that he's being considered by teams that run such different schemes in the back end. The Vikings heavily employ Tampa-2 coverages, while Detroit plays press.

Sheppard, 29, has a bigger name than he is worth at this point in his career. He is extremely injury prone, a poor tackler, often blows coverages and was benched by the Jets last season.

$2M for Lito? That was really stupid. GAAA!!!!

note that the 2010 schedule is up on the fanshots

Be sure to use the “Attach Event” button and tag the game if you are referring to it in your fanshot. Especially if Lito is involved. I want every failure documented and filtered for my perusing pleasure.

did this guy sleep with your sister or something?

I’m seeing a personal vendetta. But hell, I’m glad this happened, makes it even easier for us.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan your mission properly.

I think the Philly fans (you know who you are) fawned over him one too many times for my taste. Now I can’t stand the guy. He’s just so smug.

great idea about "attaching events"

I usually just do the teams, and any specific players in the fanshot, and then type some words in the “tags” window to see what it pulls up.

I’ve not ever successfully attached an actual event through that portal…I’ll add it to my “fanshot” remember to do list!

We've got 27 ways to add up to 11 (players on the field). I came up with another one last night. -- GW

What the hell is “attaching events”?

PFT:

Now that the Vikings have addressed the secondary they have a little more latitude with the 30th pick in the first round—a pick some wouldn’t be surprised to see used on Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
That’d be the icing on the cake. GAAA!!!!

C'mon

You know you’d love it. Tell me you’d love it if Favre retired and Tebow started against the Saints in the Dome.

Wednesday’s signing of Lito Sheppard is not expected to impact the Vikings’ potential drafting of a cornerback on Thursday or Friday. Star-Tribune beat writers Chip Scoggins and Judd Zulgad are both convinced that the Vikes will still pick a corner in the first or second round. Sheppard isn’t suddenly going to get durable or regain his ball skills. In Minnesota’s Cover 2 defense, cornerbacks that tackle well are valued highly.
