2010 NFL Draft: Pre-Event Open Thread

I'm noticing a lot of activity and anticipation building up here on Da Chronic and since people are tweeting me asking me to open up a thread to let out all the excitement: Here you go!

We'll be back later with our regular open thread when the draft starts tonight.

Don't forget about our live draft podcast tonight. The start time is set for 9pm central but it's really still TBD, dependent on how quickly the draft moves. Just be ready.

In case you weren't here this morning, you'll definitely want to check out my awesome interview with professional scout, Dave-Te' Thomas. Might learn a thing or two.

You can find any and all of the draft-related posts in our 2010 NFL Draft section, on the left sidebar.

Show? I don't know anything about a show because I don't read the important information you include in your posts, including this one above.

just for kicks

lets assume that the browns go up and get the first pick….what happens? Does it effect us?

I mean, we have to pick right in front of them in the 2nd round, but you’d assume that they’d go QB with the brown’s 1st pick

by Andrew Tessier on Apr 22, 2010 5:28 PM CDT reply actions

or would the rams

go get a tackle and try to get colt or tebow or someone else at 33, making 32 very important?

by Andrew Tessier on Apr 22, 2010 5:28 PM CDT up reply actions

It might help us

If the Browns trade up, they won’t take a DB like Berry or Haden. This could leave them available for, say, the Broncos or the Giants, who would otherwise (I’m guessing) take a linebacker. The more linebackers drop down, the easier it is for us to grab Hughes or Weatherspoon. If that’s even who we want.

by Jay Preece on Apr 22, 2010 5:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Also, you’re right, it makes our 32nd pick potentially more valuable to other teams.

by Jay Preece on Apr 22, 2010 5:31 PM CDT up reply actions

I won't be around during the draft

So wanted to thrown my lot in with that Hughes kid. Though I’d love to trade down, too.

Might check in once or twice in the mid-teens, we’ll see.

We've got 27 ways to add up to 11 (players on the field). I came up with another one last night. -- GW

I’m cool and I listen to CSC Forecast radio

did you guys just see nfl network?

Marshall Faulk has us taking taylor mays at 32

by Bishiop Black on Apr 22, 2010 5:37 PM CDT reply actions

please no

he has no pass coverage skills. I’d much rather Chad Jones in the 2nd round….his numbers are pretty close to Berry’s, and they both played in the same conference.

by Andrew Tessier on Apr 22, 2010 5:40 PM CDT up reply actions

That would be major fail on our part.

STILL stopping every few minutes to realize "Whoa. The Saints won the Super Bowl."

by AllSaintsDay on Apr 22, 2010 6:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Cool!

I’m leaving work a little early in a few minutes so I can get home in time for pick no. 1.

"As soon as Tony (Dungy) said we had no chance, I knew we had 'em right where we wanted 'em"--Coach Sean Payton right after Super Bowl XLIV with the Lombardi Trophy firmly in hand. WHO DAT!!

If you're not around a tv

ESPN has a useful live cast page with what team has picked whom, etc.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Snap, place, kick! And it's good! It's good! It's goo-hoo-hood! Pigs have flown! Hell Has frozen over! The Saints are going to the Superbowl!

Did you guys see McShay and Kiper about to kill each other?

One fun draft scenario that will never happen . . .

. . . What if the Saints let the time on their pick expire? I assume Detroit would jump up and make a pick, but that would be the end of the 1st round and the day would be over.

Then, theoretically, Saints would have first pick tomorrow. There’s been a lot of talk about how, with the extra time to mull it over, that 33rd pick will be a very valuable trade bait.

It will never happen, but it would be a pretty ballsy move.

by TheBobLoblawBlog on Apr 22, 2010 5:51 PM CDT reply actions

Creepy. That would be a weird scenario. We would be all over the sports news.

by Joseph William Stern on Apr 22, 2010 5:53 PM CDT up reply actions

its already been discussed here. the draft wont end until whoever owns the 32nd overall pick finishes. so unless we trade that pick, the draft keeps going until we pick.

by Alex Swift on Apr 22, 2010 5:54 PM CDT up reply actions

actually, it kinda just f***s us over

I'm still stuck at the hospital

Got the Tivo set for NFLnetwork though. Busting my ass to get home in time, at least the Saints pick late.

Sorry. Thanks for the concern though.
I’m feeling a little sick now that the saints picked robinson, though.

OK for those who have access to both, which do you guys prefer? ESPN’s draft coverage? Or NFL Network?

by FriarBob on Apr 22, 2010 6:01 PM CDT reply actions

I thought ESPN had exclusive rights to the actual draft.

I prefer ESPN's coverage

but when they annoy me, I switch to NFLN, and then go back to ESPN when I can’t take another word from Marucci or Mayock

I really like

Chris Berman’s commentary, he’s fun to watch, but NFL network is pretty much on top of it too. I’m switching back and forth

Flamengo!! Your killing me Stern

They are a tasteless group. All that brag about is having the largest fanbase of the World. Also, we just spanked them in the recent championship. I showed them how an American cheers. Shut all these guys up around here.
