Updated List of Saints Undrafted Free Agent Signings
Now that the draft is over, the New Orleans Saints will scramble with the rest of the league to sign undrafted players. According to Sean Payton the Saints expect to sign "somewhere in the low teens, maybe twelve, thirteen, fourteen in that range."
Here is a list of confirmed or highly rumored undrafted free agents the Saints have reportedly signed. We'll keep updating as needed so check back

Potential back-ups
Only 2 of these (already signed) MAY make the team -
Ekom Udofia – NT, Stanford
Ryan Hamilton – S, Vandy
Wierd thing is: we are looking at alot of NT’s, seems like more than most years. We moving completely to a 3-4? I know G.W. likes to mix it up….hmmm.

With the 32nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints say "Sean Weatherspoon, come on down!!!"
I’d like to get Keiland Williams, RB, LSU. He’s fast, pretty big guy, never really shined enough to start in front of Charles Scott
Me too, Forgot he was a SR.
wish he was a JR. and returning next yr. he got lost behind Les’ dumb moves but I like his game, i own a #5 LSU jersey.
You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will.-Jim Mora Sr.
I’d also like to see them look at Richard Dickson, TE, LSU. He’s a good receiving TE, but I think we’re set at that position now that the Saints got Graham.
The Saints have also signed undrafted DE Junior Galette of Stillman College.

He could almost play QB, he’s so accurate and his snaps seem to have extraordinary velocity. I’m impressed.

That would then dominate all of the network highlight reels for at least a week. Sean Payton is just crazy enough to try it.

With a name like Beauchamp
How could the guy not be a perfect fit for the Saints
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Anyone familiar
with Brandon Lang, DE from Troy? IIRC, he was a good DE that needed some solid coaching. He went undrafted
With the 32nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints say "Sean Weatherspoon, come on down!!!"
Some people projected Harry Coleman as a LB
But at the Combine he could only manage 9 reps on the bench press. He is fast, but even at his pro day he could only pump out 11 reps on the bench. That is insanely puzzling for anyone that wants to be a strong safety, and a non-starter for a linebacker. I hope he is just one of those guys that can’t translate real world strength to the bench, but this just looks like they are giving a courtesy shot to a local guy.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Coleman
was one of the best players on LSU’s defense the past 2-3 seasons. Last year they threw him in at OLB for speed, but the DC was terrible with using him. I think he could be a solid SS in the league and might push Chip Vaughn and Pierson Prioleau for a roster spot. He might even overtake Harper in a few years (if he makes the team of course) because he’s got better coverage skills and hands, but not quite the size.
This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!
He’s got plenty size for a SS, that’s why they put him at olb. He’s just not quite fast enough for a SS, not quite big enough for a LB….but huge for a SS, very fast with good cover skills for a OLB
by Andrew Tessier on Apr 24, 2010 8:04 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
So,
bulk up and play WLB or stay the same and play SS?
This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!
hard call, but I’d say try to bulk him up a bit. He was very effective as a blitzer too because he’s so fast for a LB, he’d just run by people, but if he gets blocked by, say, a OG, he’ll get washed out. He’s an interesting pickup and a long term project in my mind. The problem with keeping him at SS is that he isn’t too fast and you can’t teach fast. He’s fast enough to get by as a SS, but not fast enough to shine as a good one. I’d like to see what GW does with him.
by Andrew Tessier on Apr 24, 2010 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions
If he really only has 11 bench press rep strength then he better put on a lot of bulk.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
he needs to bulk up but I’m surprised he benched that low. He isn’t a weakling or anything, he did play well in the SEC.
“Earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his phenomenal performance against Auburn when he tallied nine tackles, the first two sacks of his career, 2.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup”
Not bad for being the first year he ever played OLB (btw, note, he played SS three years, and in his junior year led the Tigers in tackles. His senior year, the new DC, who is a LB guy, switched him OLB. He was third in tackles for the team).
by Andrew Tessier on Apr 24, 2010 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions
"he’d just run by people" The people he was not able to "just run by" are probably pros now.
He’d better bulk up to face those OG’s that are waiting for him in the NFL.

Beauchamp
stats or video on this guy?
This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!
Per CBS
He lead UNLV with 95 tackles, 12 for a loss and 6.5 sacks. Consistently runs in the 4.7 range, was a top performer in the vertical where he had a 29.5" jump, and put up 30 reps on the bench.
If we can get around the lack of great straight line speed he seems like a good get.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Sack numbers make me smile
pass rush guys like this get me excited. I think he could make it. Dunbar is pedestrian but stays around mainly for special teams. Galette and Beauchamp may have good chances to push him and maybe another guy out.
This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!
Love him at UNLV
He’s not the fastest guy, but he is athletic and is a tough guy, especially as a down hill runner., hoping he can make it in training camp.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
bah
Freddie Barnes was that WR I was hoping we’d get, but I found out he signed with Chicago. Damn.
Did anyone pick up Jeff Cumberland?
TE/WR Illinois, 6’5" 255 lbs. and a beast on special teams. Never seen a WR tackle like this guy. He’s very rarely tackled by one man.

Saints kept 4 RBs last year, and it worked out pretty well
I think a lot of teams (i.e., all of them) are coming around to the idea that a full stable of solid RBs is as good or better than one great 25-30 carries/game kind of guy.

It's interesting to see
all of the LBs and DTs that we’re getting now. So, do we need new LBs and DTs, or not? Or is this a “we’ll make do for this year” sorta need?
I think
they’re going to try to get a pass rusher in return for Jammal Brown (Shawne Merriman? Even if the rumors aren’t true). I think it would be nice for someone to put up a list of some potential acquisitions involving J. Brown, now that Charlie Brown is in town.

Marcell Young
6’2", 200 lbs., CB
“Last season Young recorded 23 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, two interceptions and blocked a kick. In 2008 he finished with 25 tackles, two pass and a fumble recovery.”
Physical specimen. NFC South has been stocking up on tall WRs, so we better start stocking up on our tall DBs. I think he’s got an outside chance to make the team, but coming from a small school, and before that a JUCO team, the odds are against him.
This draft screams Dynasty. If that's the case, then I say, let the Saints Reign begin!
There arent many 6'2" corners that make it in the NFL
At that height they just don’t have the agility unless they are a freak of nature. At that height they usually do better converting to free safety.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''

I like him. He played next to 2nd rounder Linval Joseph, so he must have some ability. Looks like he could be a solid rotation guy. I’d still like to see Al Woods unleash his potential and earn a starting spot in the rotation, but he’s got a ways to go.

from Vandy is a really good player. He was banged up badly in his senior season, but a season ago, as a junior he was a menace. I remember watching one Vandy game when they were like 6-0 at the time and I saw him playing with a club on his arm and he was everywhere on the field. He’s 6’2" 210 lbs, but he’s only got a slim slim slim chance to make the team considering we’re so stacked in the backfield.

Add TCU CB Rafael Priest to your list.
Source: TCU Athletic Department Official Website
This guy was a a shut-down corner all the way and a rising prospect until he got injured his Senior year. His stock plummeted when he wasn’t able to run at the combine as his injury took longer to heal than expected.

Priest was a four-year starter at cornerback and a three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection. He was a third-team Sporting News All-American in 2009 and the No. 6-ranked cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com.
A native of Dallas, Priest played his final season with the Horned Frogs as a graduate student after earning his TCU degree in Spring 2009.

Aside from Bush’s rookie campaign, i.e., before his two knee operations, no RB on our current roster has played a 16 game season. Even if you include Pierre, that’s still the case. They haven’t addressed the loss of Bell in either the draft or free agency. I sure hope they’re weighing their options there. Xavier Omon seems like he’d be a really nice fit, imo. Guy ran all over us in a preseason game against Buffalo. I realize there’s currently oversaturation across the league at that position, so it probably wouldn’t be very difficult to pick up a replacement back in a pinch … I just think we have a need for one full time. Particularly someone that can move the pile in short yardage situations. I honestly don’t get off on Reginald’s Fying Wallenda act, or the thought of Heath Evans lined up behind the Baconator.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
To me it feels we will also get a veteran anytime soon as insurance
And make Hamilton the new Bell.. And one/two young guys on street for training camp

"Saints don't commit sins, they exorcise demons. The NFL most accurate passer was preaching, and the league MVP watched as the Game MVP delivered an impressive sermon"
He's another one who got injured in college
Committee helps but we are still short
"Saints don't commit sins, they exorcise demons. The NFL most accurate passer was preaching, and the league MVP watched as the Game MVP delivered an impressive sermon"
Yeah, I agree. He was part of the rotation when Bell was here, anyway. We still need another RB to remain as balanced an offense as possible. Preferrably someone whose running style compliments Thomas and Bush’s moreso than Bell’s did.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
Julius Jones could wind up being an option. Seattle now has Forsett, White and Washington. Jones looks like the odd man out, imo. He’s definitely not the stud starter the Seahawks were convinced he was, but he’s been nearly as effective as any of our current backs in a RBBC. 29 years old in August, but doesn’t have the wear and tear most backs that age do. Probably won’t have a whole lot of suitors, either.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
Read it somewhere before his tenure in Seattle is now shaky
Probably some others hitting the market soon
"Saints don't commit sins, they exorcise demons. The NFL most accurate passer was preaching, and the league MVP watched as the Game MVP delivered an impressive sermon"
Julius Jones
Oh, GAAA!!!!
but he’s been nearly as effective as any of our current backs in a RBBCYou mean any of our current backs if their names are Bell or Hamilton. At 3.6, 3.7, 3.8 yards per carry.
But Jesus1000, can’t the World Champion New Orleans Saints find a running back anywhere on planet Earth who might possibly have more potential than Julius Jones? C’mon, man.
I'm feeling a little, ooh, anxious if you know what I mean.
4.4 in 2008. Not to mention, you should be looking at yards per touch, not just yards per rushing attempt. Isn’t that the level of gratuity everyone extends Bush?
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
I had a lot more hair on my head in 2008. And JJ was a lot younger and more motivated.
You said RBBC, running back. Bush is not really in that group. You want JJ catching passes out of the backfield when you have PT and Reggie? CP, please.
I'm feeling a little, ooh, anxious if you know what I mean.
“You said RBBC, running back. Bush is not really in that group.”
Oh really? I was including him. I guess that means we need Julius Jones, plus ANOTHER back.
And yes, I’d rather a back that can catch passes. I’d actually rather a BIG back that can catch them, but I’ll take what I can get. Would you rather become predictable when Mr. Bell’s replacement (whomever that may be) enters the game? The more that player can do (including run over people) the less likely we are to miss a beat on that particular down.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
Jack of all trades, master of none, that’s your preference. No specialists. Ridiculous.
But back to JJ: He’s terrible, he failed at Dallas, he failed at Seattle, and he’s probably played in his last NFL game. And you desire him. Just for the record.

How has Jones failed and Bush hasn’t? Or Mike Bell, for that matter. That’s all I’m getting at. My preference is a bigger back. If that automatically equated to a Seattle cast off, I’d take T.J. Duckett — yes, despite “failing” — who is already an UFA. I only mentioned Jones as a possibility, based on how he’s pretty much a carbon copy of one or two of the underachieving backs we managed to win a SB with. He’s certainly not a stud performer. If he was, odds are he wouldn’t be about to enter the job market in Late April. And as far as the master of none thing goes, what’s Lynell Hamilton’s specialty? Believe me, I’d love to have all the bases covered, in terms of what our backs bring to the table. They’ve really given no indication of going that route though, so why rule guys out based on that Utopian criterium?
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
3.6, 3.7, 3.8 yards per carry are actually Bush’s numbers from 2006-08. Jones has finished above 4.0 three times in six years. He also has roughly the same career yards per reception average as Bush (7.3 to 7.4).
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
Tell me what Eric Dickerson’s average was in 1991. It has almost as much bearing on 2010 as Reggie’s 2006 numbers.

Julius Jones still sucks for 2010, on anybody’s team.

BTW, with the draft over, I’ve tossed my Sporting News draft mag in the recycling bin and I’m back to scouring the 2009 Saints media guide in my spare time…
Did you know Vicky has an M.S. in Audiology?

I agree with that. At the same time, I’m not ruling out the guy who’s done it (averaged 4.0) more times all along. Jones averaged 3.7 ypc this past season. That’s not stellar, but it’s not exactly falling down the well. Bush has been lingering around that mark his entire career. They’re both have roughly the same career averages on the ground AND through the air. The fact that Jones has maintained those averages with over 600 more career touches than Bush should tell you something about who the better overall RB is. And no, I’m not talking about the guy who needed the FEWEST carries in his career, in order to produce (by far) the highest average. On top of which, since 2006, Jones has never missed more games than Bush in a season. Better production, better durability AND not even (necessarily) replacing the guy. Forgive me for not seeing the downside there.

WOW! Twenty-two total now, huh?
That’s a lot of camp competition. Even a kicker to keep Hartley on his game during the offseason. I’m thinking that none of these WRs have a snowball’s chance in hell of making the cut.
Why has no one else rec’d this post? We need to keep it on the front page before it disappears. Please tap that “Rec” button up top, since this contains information that is constantly being added to.

Hi Guys!I’m new to the site. First I would like to say Marcell Young is from Jackson State not Jacksonville. I was surprised by the kicker also considering we have Hartley. I would also like to commend the Saints for considering SWAC players. These guys also have talent and are often overlooked in the draft. Many young men come to our Historically Black College just off the late great Walter Payton’s name.
welcome aboard
Stu is about to recommend an avatar for you…

Thanks, Hans….
Welcome, SGIMS! I think Hartley just needs a nudge in camp so he doesn’t get too comfortable
But yes, you do need an avatar, or “profile image” as it’s called. You can upload it on your Edit Profile page. Let’s see… may I suggest…

What do you think? Isn’t it pretty? It’s the Mississippi state flower! Magnolia grandiflora And everyone will still respect you in the morning. Whatever that means. Welcome to CSC!
Got those pretty little straps around your ankles
Magnolias are white, you insensitive pr***.
Why not just suggest a bale of cotton, while you’re at it?
Pay him no mind, SGIM. A/S/L?

She LIKED it. She really LIKED it. I’m pleased. I don’t think I’ve scored with a suggestion since Monkey Poop Battle.
SGIM, most of these men live in the basements of their mother’s home and at least one is only 12 years old, so word to the wise.
You can't believe your reviews.
If you move into your basement is that self-abasement?
Here's to you, Patrick Robinson, Jesus1000 loves you more than you will know...
HA
“back room or their mother’s home…”? “attic”?
You need a basement in Kansas if you’re going to survive dual twisters.

Money, it's a crime

so, Stu, I'm guessing you watched Run, Ricky Run
I have it recorded and will probably watch it this weekend…
BTW, I got that promotion at work that I mentioned last week on the draft thread – seems I start it May 10th, the beginning of our Center’s Summer Sessions.
I will be the new Assistant Director of the Early Learning Campus at the University of Louisville.
So, no more worries about needing to be well-rested for class, Stu. I’ll need to be well-rested to deal with personnel issues and paperwork, and to make sure everyone has enough crayons and construction paper.
