Yay!!
Does this mean we’re more likely to take a DT (if available), a DE that we’ll groom, or an OLB?

Have we had a player named Alex since Molden? I can’t think of one.

This pickup will be great
for us. We will have depth at DE and a veteran that is still very productive and has a great work ethic. Welcome to the Saints Mr. Brown. You’ll love it here. Not only for the fans, food, and culture but because you’re playing for the Superbowl Champs.

For how much money?
Besides, and as somebody else mentioned it, will he be as efficient starting on the left side?
Nah, that's just some dust in my eye....
Oh
And GW will help you get your coveted 10 sacks…. bet he’s drafting up some plays now… LOL

not a saviour...
but more than a stop gap. Productive, high motor, great character… the antithesis of Charles Grant.
With the 32nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints say "Sean Weatherspoon, come on down!!!"

COOL!
We finally add a new face to the roster and help fill an important need. My only question about him is can he play left DE as effectively as he has played right DE. Will Smith already has the right side locked up, I would assume, and Brown has little experience playing the left side. How much of a transition will that be? I’m just asking because I don’t know. He has to be an upgrade over Grant at least.
Question: Can we not sign another FA now unless we lose another of equal value? I’m thinking Brown is our replacement roster spot for Fujita, but at a different position.
I’m hoping they now draft a speedy, young OLB with their first round pick.

Brown was cut...
so he is exempt for the Final * Rules… We still have Fujita’s departure space to work with.

As a Bears fan...
The answer is Yes. Alex Brown can play both end positions as well as DT in passing situations.
You are getting our most versitile linemen. This guy can play anywhere on the line. Do any rush. Stop the run. And even drop back in coverage.
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
I still might take a DE
that way the rookie won’t be thrown into the starting lineup, risking bust level. Don’t forget, after McCray we’re still totally bankrupt.
I wouldn't mind getting half the "love" that the Saints are willing to give Sharper...
i do love the pickup though

They still have Charleston and Hargrove, as well. I agree that they still need a 5th or 6th DE, though. Just not necessarily within the first couple of rounds anymore.

boom rec'd it
That’s it. I like that better than what rotoworld said: Brown’s addition shouldn’t prevent the Saints from drafting a top defensive end if one is available at the No. 32 overall pick, but certainly increases their options.
I’m likin’ that Hughes kid even more now.
I took the Ford 'cause it was raining.
exactly...
We need a 3rd or 4th CB (depending on where Jenkins plays) before we need another DE… and we need an OLB before that.
Pigs have flown! Hell has frozen over! The Saints HAVE WON the Superbowl!!
Re: power RBs
Maybe we could trade our 2nd rounder for Brandon Jacobs. He appears capable of running over starting DEs. Translation: WTF @ that pic, Dave?!

I took it as Brown dragging Jacobs down on top of him after pushing him back a yard…. no?

like in your fantasy draft when you nab someone coveted by the guy right behind you in draft order - and he yells out "F$#% you!" right after you announce your pick - a sweet sound
that’s only trumped by this

This deal seems almost TOO PERFECT
We got a MAJOR piece that we needed for cheap…..
I mean, Bears fans are mad that they lost him
What am I missing? Why didn’t someone else offer him much more?
I feel like we are all missing some major weakness
From what I understand...
He wasn’t available for very long. Bears released him just 5 days before the Saints snapped him up. I think he jumped to sign with us because of the Super Bowl win as well as the chances for future success. That may have meant more to him than a higher salary from another team. He also looks like he will fit right in with the tight “family” atmosphere the Saints have going on…
