Ken Hamlin...a future Saint?

Check 1..2...is this thing on? *ach-hem* Hello CSC community, I have a proposal that some will disagree and maybe a few will agree. What about the Saints signing Ken Hamlin? The Cowboys released him and Flozell Adams not too long ago, and I think he would be a great pick up if we don't sign Darren Sharper. Personally I wouldn't mind, I'd rather have a veteran safety that's proven himself (rather than Usama Young or Malcolm Jenkins) and not too old(29). What do you think? Should we sign him if we don't get "D-sharp" back? Don't get me wrong either I would love to have him back (as long as his surgery rehab is going as planned), I'm just saying "if" we don't get him.

Here are Hamlin's stats for his last 3 years with Dallas:

Season Team Tackles Interceptions Fumbles
G GS Comb Total Ast Sck SFTY PDef Int Yds Avg Lng TDs FF
2009 Dallas Cowboys 12 12 52 40 12 0.0 -- 2 -- -- 0.0 -- -- 0
2008 Dallas Cowboys 16 16 74 53 21 1.0 -- 2 1 0 0.0 0 0 1
2007 Dallas Cowboys 16 16 62 45 17 0.0 -- 15 5 93 18.6 35 0 0

he's a very solid safety, i have always liked him

but he seems quite different than Sharper in that he doesn’t seem to make the real big plays and he is not the gambler type that helped our D be successful last year. So, I am torn. He does seem to very consistent, hits hard, and prevents the deep big play pretty well and he and the Dallas D neutralized D Jackson and Maclin pretty well last year.

Don't know...

I remember reading they cut him for allowing few big plays… if Sharper wont be back we would probably be better off with what we have in-house

I brought this up over a week ago. Sharper’s more of a ballhawk (when healthy), but Hamlin would be an improvement in the tackling department. Five years younger, too. I would be all for it. Keep Jenkins at CB and that’s yet another position we can X off the needs list. Being able to draft the BPA regardless of position is the key the staying on top.

“Sharper’s more of a ballhawk (when healthy), but Hamlin would be an improvement in the tackling department.”

100% agree on that.

We need the ballhawk more than a few more tackles.

Turnovers are HUGE.

Turnovers are a large part of why we won so many games last year… including the Super Bowl.

Turnovers are the difference between potentially giving up 7 points and getting 7 points… or, potentially a 14 point swing.

HUGE I TELL YA!

rotoworld.com:

Hamlin, 29, missed four games last season due to injury, made just 52 tackles, and didn’t create a single takeaway. He’ll likely have to settle for a cheap, “prove it” deal elsewhere.
Sounds like a deal Mickey would make if GDub has any interest in him.

For some reason, I've never really liked Hamlin

I think he’s an average safety. I didn’t like him that much when he was in Seattle and I hated him when he was in Dallas….just like everybody else currently on the Cowboys roster. I think I would rather move Jenkins to safety. Look at Antrel Rolle, he’s very similar to Malcolm Jenkins. he was a 1st round corner who was very physical, well built, but just a little bit slow for a corner. The Cardinals moved him to safety and he became a Pro Bowler and he just got a good deal with the Jets.

Speaking of Rolles, I drive one. I kid. Anyone interested in Myron as a late round flyer pick, if he’s still lingering?

If he’s around after the 4th…sure. Great kid, good work ethic can contribute on Special Teams. He’s a bit too much of a thinker when he’s on the field, he’s not instinctive enough and i think that sometimes interferes with his on the field production. As a quality locker room presence and added depth at the position he’s more than worth a look if he slides deep.

I agree with jeff… If he’s available in the 5th round or later, why not see what he can do.

here's my late-round flyer

Ryan Perriloux

and here’s why:

he allows us to chant SEC! SEC! SEC! (while also touting our small-school “gems” cred as he transferred to J’ville State)

it may solve our backup QB/post-Brees QB down the road quandry

he’s had a jaded past, but is ready to start anew (ala Hargrove) high reward/low risk if we get him late and cheaply enough

with a name like Perilloux, he’s bound to be able to outrun Bobby Boucher

My last game in high school

We played against East St John, and Perriloux was the QB. We only won 2 games at that point, and they only lost 2, but we beat them that night. My brush with fame I guess. I’m very interested to see if he gets drafted or not. He cost himself millions of dollars by messing up when he was at LSU

The BIG question is, are his "messing up" days over?

I, also, couldn’t believe he threw it all away at LSU. What a damn shame!

Jamarcus at least

waited until after he got paid to throw it all away. It’s a waste of talent. The guy doesn’t know how blessed he is and how much he had it made. Stay out of trouble and play a freakin game for one year and someone will pay you millions of dollars, and that’s too much to ask. And asking if his messing up days are over, I’m not sure. He got suspended for his first game at Jacksonville State for violating team rules. You know you messed up when Div.-II schools are suspending you and you’re the star player and the only reason people go to your games is to see you

No Thanks!

Shraper makes big plays! If we can’t get him i would rather get someone else.
