Saints Sign Three Receivers, Release Rodney Leisle
Per Larry Holder on Twitter...
#Saints sign WRs Roy Hall, Larry Beavers and Andy Tanner. DT Rodney Leisle was released as well.
What the hell is going on with signing receivers? Do the Saints really need more? I think they're pretty covered. Who are these guys anyway?
All I've got to say about these moves is...nice Beavers! Sorry, had to do it.

Every dynasty is either known for its offense or defense.
Saints pick the latter.

payton is insatiable..
he’s always looking for the next guy.. also, indirectly if hamilton settles in as the 3rd rotational RB that means no more kamikaze special teams tackles 4 him.. speaking of beavers.. nice return skills & a ton of speed.. check it on youtube..
I still say it's possible that we don't know the whole story behind Lance Moore's status
I posted a wild-hair theory of mine after the thread in here about the signing of Roy Hall just yesterday and caught a bit of flack for it then. Now it really doesn’t look that crazy, or does it still? Just saying…
Maybe the Saints are talking a trade deal w/ the Chargers of Moore for Merriman?
Who knows? It could happen…
Dude, you have such off the wall ideas
That one of them is gonna come true and you are gonna look like a jeniu….geneeu…. genia…damn it, a genius. Ya got some good ideas, hope they pay off. You, my friend, are more creative than I.

Yeah, I figure if I throw enough ideas out there...
…if one of them actually sticks, I’ll get bragging rights and can say “I told you so” for the rest of the year.
Seriously though, with as close to the vest as the Saints play everything, it really would not surprise me if something really crazy like this were to actually develop into a reality!
Don’t y’all think?
Well, maybe not, but you just never do know do you?
just never do know do you?
Pretty sure we know.
rotoworld.com:
Shawne Merriman-LB- Chargers May. 13 – 5:53 pm et According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chargers would accept a second-round pick in exchange for unsigned restricted free agent OLB Shawne Merriman. Of course they would. Merriman wants to break the bank on a long-term deal even though he lost his pass rushing ability two years ago. It’s hard to picture any team willing to give up an early-round pick in addition to meeting Merriman’s outrageous contract demands.Mickey does not overpay.

Cost prohibitive. @Navoj I think the saints should get merriman

I'm...
down with trading Moore because I doubt we will pay him next year and I’d rather get something for him before he walks in FA, but I don’t think AJ Smith is dumb enough to deal “Lights Out” for Moore straight up (even with the slack in production from the injured LB).
Unfortunately, Lance Moore would command nothing more than a late 3rd to 4th round pick and if we were to get anything less, I’d much rather keep him for the last year and see if we can get a fair compensatory pick.
Late 3rd to 4th round pick
Fortunately, thats about what Merriman is worth now that he’s off steroids and has blown his knee out.
"i want lance moore.."

Moore ?
Whats all the talk about Lance Moore here ? Have I missed something ? I guess everyone has noticed that he never plays much ? When he does play , he reminds of that little dude with the Patroits. I can’t remember his name , he is the small white guy that catches all the short passes. Lance Moore is a great player , but alway’s listed as injured ! Something up with him and the Saints , no one is injured that amount of time. Except maybe…J. Shockey (lol). He is good for 3 passes a game and then is out for 2-6 games , every time. With all that going on we still (Saints) have the best offense in the NFL , thats great !
Wes Welker
and it was really just last year he was hurt, the nagging kind. The year before he had 1000 yds. This year will tell a lot about him for me. Hopefully, he goes back to being that guy that is always open when Drew needs him.
RealheavyD thought we were signing a whole bunch of WRs because of possible trade talks involving moore.
I believe you mean Wes Welker
And I do like Moore, but he’s always injured, and he isn’t quite as skilled as Welker. Welker makes his hay because he’s nearly indestructible, and is very talented at what he does, more talented than Moore.
I wouldn’t mind trading Moore, but that’s only if we got something nice and shiny in return. I like nice and shiny things. They sparkle. Sparklies! SPARKLIES!! Ahem
Anyway, yeah.

Not sure Lance has as much trade value as we think
He was injured a lot last season and his 1,000+ yards in ‘08 were mostly due to the fact that Colston was injured much of that year (Devery, Shockey, and Meach missed some games too, I think) and Brees didn’t have many others to throw to. In addition, our running game was pretty bad in ‘08, which contributed greatly to the 5,000+ yards for Drew and the 1,000+ for Lance. I think teams around the league are very well aware of that and aren’t all too eager to trade for him. Plus, most teams prefer a big WR these days, which Lance is definitely not.
I like Lance and think he fits in perfectly with Payton’s system as the little, speedy WR who mostly lines up in the slot. He’s our version of Wes Welker, but not as fast and talented. I’d rather keep him, Henderson, and Meach on the team. Why split up Brees’s Super Bowl-winning receiving corps if we don’t have to?

IMO
Moore is highly underrated. Everything thrown at him he catches. Very reliable receiver who i hope is able to stay healthy this season and really contribute.
My appreciation of the Saints can not be measured in nipples and dimes...nickels and boobs...money! If you can't comprehend that "TOUGH NOOGIES"

Leisle gone
means there are now only THREE Haslett era players on the roster: Henderson, Stinchcomb and Smith. Jammal Brown would be the fourth, if he ever signs his tender. Nesbit and Grant round out the seven from this past season.

I think the
signing of these guys has more to do with finding viable special teamers than anything else. Especially considering the possibility of losing Prioleau and Reis. Also have to think that at least one special teamer, if not two, will also be getting full time duty at OLB this year.
