1. CSC gives me something constructive to do at work.

2. Free hamburgers.

3. ummm…any of the females?

4. Tie between the NFCCG and the Super Bowl.

5. Three more Super Bowl appearances with, alas, only two wins, making CSC the most popular in all the SB Nation.

Hmm, Dave?

Which blog has the most members? We may be hampered by a smaller population than some teams’ home citites, but, do you know how we rank?

by BRSaintsFan on May 22, 2010 6:52 AM CDT up reply actions

CSC critique

 1. All the different personalities.
2. Would like more interveiws with players, not so popular the ones in the background.
3. JND like the humor.
4. Can’t nail this ONE down. Not playing kiss a&& but you do a great job Dave.
5. Build it and they will come.

Just in case Shockey reads this, thanks for what you did with the dinner date contest, you are a hero.

1. The music.

2. If I was in charge. Hey wait, come back!

3. Miss Frumplesworth. Just kidding…MtnExile2, of course.

4. That would probably be a tie between the first use of BOOM! and the first use of GAAAAAAA!!!!!!

5. Five years would be three years after the universe ends in 2012, so technically this question is unanswerable. If I was in charge, I’d change it to “Po-boys or hamburgers?” And the answer would be, po-boys.

I know who i am! I'm the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude!

   1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
It has to be that this is a one stop for all things Saints

   2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
A newbie guide on front page, have it blink if they have been a member less than a month. A scoreboard for number of sites you were banned from during 2010 season :)

   3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
Well, my first choice would be a female, I can handle the survival stuff(ex Navy SEAL), second choice would be Cold Pizza, He is intelligent and knows all kinds of stuff. But then again I might kill em after he tells me one too many times that “Coconuts are a natural laxative”. JK

   4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
The Superbowl thread, the Miami game thread was funny.

   5. What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?
Well, we will be bigger and hopefully better. More advertising….GAAAAH

It's hard to pick on thing for each of these

1) all the info i get so fast and all the characters on here

2) off the top of my head I think it would be cool to have a weekly “picture caption” or something

3) either JND for his survival skills, humor and Just Nother Dog could keep us company or big Al cuz if i had to eat my partner thats alot of meat on that dude or Grumps cuz you know that old coot has some naughty pics in his pockets

4) the weekly spells, brews and view from sections

5)Dave has to turn over CSC to me because he is elected president

1) My favorite aspect is provoking adamant statements, arguing against them, and then coming back later with rotoworld.com “proof” that I was right. It makes me feel like I’m almost a man. With real equipment, not some oddly colored strapon contraption.

2) Suggested improvement: A built-in grudge list function that would track and declare the prevailing opinion as soon as real-time events unfold, so I don’t have to do it manually.

3) notstujo4

4) I can’t think like this, there’s been so many. Mickey Loomis faxing Vilma a contract has to be near the top, though. And signing GDub. That was huge. A sea change. That put the Saints on a championship level. It even boosted CSC’s membership’s confidence in the Saints.

5) We’ll all have video displays of ourselves shown to other members as we comment. Except for the good looking women members, who will turn it off because of the mashers. No big deal for me, I already know you guys are all old, fat, skinny, dorky, and repulsive. Much like myself.

1. Freedom to express opinions and dispute the short-sighted opinions of the so-called MSM “experts.”
2. I’d replace the scary-lookin’ mug of Miss Frumplesworth with someone like this:

3. Tough choice. I’ll say Stujo. Our two minds together may never be able to find a way off the island and we’d probably die of starvation within a week, but at least it’d be an interesting week as I watch him yell “GAAAAA” at every seagull that flies by.
4. Anything posted right after we won the Super Bowl. I especially liked how SB Nation had the “Congratulations” banner across the CSC homepage for the week after.
5. 50,000 registered members.

"As soon as Tony (Dungy) said we had no chance, I knew we had 'em right where we wanted 'em"--Coach Sean Payton right after Super Bowl XLIV with the Lombardi Trophy firmly in hand. WHO DAT!!

1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
The level of community involvement. I read a ton of Saints articles across the web, but this is the only site that I keep bookmarked and comment with regularity, mainly because a (mostly) respectful and active conversation that comes along with it.

2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
I would like the site to not force me to “allow 3rd party cookies” in order to log in. This is the only site that I actively visit that requires it, and I always forget to disable that option when I leave. In fact, I probably log much less frequently than I would otherwise as a result, and join the dialogue about a 1/3 of the time I normally would. Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind seeing the “wait 1 day after you sign up to comment” altered or done away with. While it doesn’t affect the die hard Saints fans as much, it probably does limit the ability for other fans to converse with us. Maybe scale it back to an hour wait or something (keep away the trolls, but still get timely conversation?)

3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
Mrs. Frumplesworth. Wearing the bikini in the picture higher up in these comments. No further explanation needed.

4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
Well, I suppose this gives away my status as a narcissist, but probably my favorite moment/post was when I made the pick for the Detroit Lions in the community mock draft. Not only did I nail it (on my extremely risky selection of Ndamukong Suh), but I had a great time writing it, seeing all of your comments, and getting feedback from the Detroit Lions fans at Pride of Detroit. Again, being a part of the community is this site’s best competitive advantage.

5. What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?
Probably an increased presence in the professional world. SBNation has a really good model to become the primary force of fan community blogging, and as the volume of visitors grows, I expect an increased amount of interviews and guest player bloggers will likely follow.

by TheBobLoblawBlog on May 22, 2010 10:54 AM CDT reply actions

1) Favorite aspect: the pashion of many CSC members.
2) Change: I would like to see “Player Tributes” of former players from CSC members. I’m still thinking this through; may offer up a post about this.
3) Stranded: probably either M-E, HansDat, or Dave (it’s hard for me to pick just one). They’re all very knowledgable members of the “Old Guard” who know their stuff (I foresee spending our last few weeks alive talking about the Saints before we eventually starve to death), but not as sometimes negative and sometimes obnoxious as other Old Guard members, who I might eventually just have to do in if they’re my only company on a deserted island.
4) I’ve only been a member for 3 months so my experiences are limited, but I loved our 3-day long draft party.
5) 5 years hence: We are the #1 NFL blog on SBNation; in quality, # of members, and # of hits.

1. Favorite part of CSC has to be the connection to home and the Spirit of New Orleans.

I don’t get to go home as often as I’d like, but the talk and the pictures here remind me of home.

2. The ability to anti-rec comments, and after a certain number (say 3 or 4) that comment would be closed (rather than the default of “expanded”) and the title of the comment would be changed to “(hidden by anti-rec)” or something more clever… and users would have the option to click on the title to reveal the offending post.

3. Hmmm… Since my g/f not on CSC and I have to pick someone from CSC, I’d say one of the ladies would be my first choice.

Besides a lady for companionship, there are so many cool people here (that I know a little about, but not enough to say it has to be X)… Hans, M-E, Dave and several others seems like the type of people I could hang out with.

4. The time leading up to the Super Bowl (playoffs and especially the 2 weeks before) was pretty darn cool… as frustrating as they were at the time, the debates and discussions with opposing teams’ fans was cool.

5. After we win a couple more Super Bowls, CSC will be the highest traffic’d NFL blog in SBNation.

I've been off-line a few days because my old 'puter died (and had to be replaced with this here brand new Dell) so the timing of this thread is perfect ~

1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
Like a well aged cheese, CSC goes very well with a fine wine! I’m always popping a cork with friends.

2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
Everyone posts a picture of themself in their profile. We’ll be suprised to find out that many of our members are identical twins of George Clooney and Kathrine Zeta Jones!!!! Oh yeah, and spell check.

3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
VooDooGrisGris. She’s the only CSC female who has posted her pic (although the vintage of that photo is very suspect) and is pleasing to the eye. The bonus would be that she may be able to whip up an industrial strength deodorant from materials on hand. It’s hard to eat someone when you can’t get past the smell . . . if you know what I mean!

4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
The furious activity right after the NFC Championship Game. The period between making the Vikings look like complete a..holes and the Superbowl was filled with more enthusiasm and good cheer than all the Christmas’s and 4ths of July and National Potted Plants Days combined! It was like the entire CSC community had gotten access to the Vicod. . . .

5. What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?
New sub-title will be “Six Dat!” and Dave is Mayor of New Orleans. Party time!

   1. That this has become the best source for breaking news. No need to scan Rotoworld and every other news site five times a day, just visit CSC and it’s usually posted here already. News also gets picked apart by everyone here.

   2. I’m not sure much can be done in the offseason. During the season I’d love more opinion and analysis on the front page. We have some pretty smart people here (CP, MtnE, jeff, stujo, etc) and I think CSC would be even better if they could be asked to contribute in more ways.

   3. My wife is a non-posting member. I’d definitely choose her over y’all. No offense.

   4. In my one season here, the Miami game thread.

   5. I think the site will be overrun and destroyed by angry Vikings fans after the Saints humiliate them in the season opener.

If I am good I could add years to my life / I would rather add some life to my years.

This is tough

1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
I love all the colorful characters on the blog. Without y’all it would just be Saints’ news.

2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
I dunno. I like the site the way it is. Something that would be fun on gameday would be to have an official CSC tailgating location near the Dome. As an out-of-town fan it would be cool to have a place to pre-game. Plus, it would be hilarious to meet everybody in person.

3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
Hands down SarahT or VGG. Lets see… Female, die-hard saints fan; easy on the eyes with sharp wit and a talent for mixing alcoholic beverages. Yeah, that’ll do. And being that we’ll be on a deserted island, who knows…I might even have a chance :)

4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
I like ‘the view from section’ series and, of course, GGM spells. J1000 and deckape69 always entertain. But I think my favorite was the interview with Vilma—that’s when I knew the blog had finally arrived.

5. What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?
I think we’ll get legitimate press credentials.

3.Coldpizza, I think me and coldpizza could talk football for hours, and then probably kill each other. HAHA

4. All the Super Bowl stuff was cool, but the cat raper thing was hilarious and, at the same time, totally wrong, but it was memorable.

5.The home of the 6 time Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints. Hopefully, Dave gets tired of going to all the Super Bowls and gives me his credentials.

My Answers

1.What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
Just being able to go to a place where there are other SAINTS FANS that love them as much as i do and know more about them than i do.

2.What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
A couple of things:
A) Thumbs up thumbs down button for each post
B) Links to local businesses that specialize in Saints merchandise, memorabilia and collectibles.
C) photo

3.If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
That depends on how long we were stranded. But if it were just one sunday any of the regular, heavy duty posters would do.

4.What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
Honestly, I really enjoy all the game threads (See #1). My FAVS have to be the Redskins, Vikes and SB XLIV. I hate to admit it but, i gave up my regular SB trip to SLO with the homies just so i could watch the game on a 13 inch TV and hammer out posts to you guys!

5.What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?
More members, but unfortunately WAY MORE HATERS. Thats what happens when you start winning the SUPER BOWL.

1.What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?

Just one? Here’s a few: One-stop-shopping for all things Saints (The WalMart of Saints news & information!); lots of very good analysis and opinion from some very smart people that are as rabid fans as myself (even if I don’t always agree with it – it makes me THINK).

2.What one change do you think would improve the site the most?

It ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

3.If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.

Someone pointed out that their answer would be dependent on time frame, I agree. Anything under about 2 months, I could get on with most anyone. Pass 2 months, VGG or SarahT, please! ;-)

4.What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?

SB XLIV. …’nuff said.

5.What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years

Home of the most hated fans of the most hated NFL team ever, because they’re on track for consecutive SB win #6. Dave elected Mayor of New Orleans, due to write-in ballots from the CSC nation (hey, we’re HERE, so we’re all honorary NOLA residents, right? :-D ).

Getting to know me...getting to know all about me!

1.What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?

My favorite aspect is the combination of features in this platform that allows for easy participation on a number of levels (much like the others who have praised the one-stop shopping aspect).

You can post/share articles, pictures, videos of others (through FanShots). You can also create/compose your own pieces of prose, poetry, etc., and use text features and add-ons to really make them pop! (through FanPosts) If you just want to read, that’s ok. You can also join the community and reply and contribute to discussions and threads, if that’s your cup of tea, and develop good relationships with other Saints fans.

I also greatly value the “nice” community Dave engenders here that allows for intelligent, spirited commentary and discussion while respecting others and focusing on the Saints and Saints-related topics. This niceness is very important to me.

My two new favorite technical features of CSC are these: going to my profile page and scrolling through my most recent comments to see if anyone has replied to them (especially if I feel I’ve been particularly insightful or witty), and using the “search” window to search for key words. As Stu suggested the other day, I did a profanity-based search to dig up naughty words in comments and posts. There was much more profanity present in the Sunil (sp?) days before Dave, and then also quite a few in the SB XLIV thread.

2.What one change do you think would improve the site the most?

I like the “info from around SB Nation” that Dave collected and linked to this morning – I think that should continue. I also want to follow up on someone else’s suggestion of using our real pictures for avatars…What about a CSC member photo gallery? Dave could make it a section in the left margin, and those that wish to could put up a picture of themselves as well as a brief bio (kind of like what some have written in their profiles). Kinda like a permanent “Getting to Know You” post.

3.If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.

I’d first want to be stranded with my wife, and we’d prefer to be stranded on a deserted island with a fully-staffed luxury resort that is free to all Saints fans. Barring that, I don’t think I could choose just one member, so I’ll ask for this…

If I am stranded on a deserted island, I’d make a Gilligan’s Island-esque solar and exercise bike-powered coconut computer with wifi hub so that I could check in on CSC and my CSC friends every day, and it’d be like we were all stranded together. And it would only take me a few days before I figure out that I could use it to call for help – Ha!

4.What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?

I have many favorite moments…one is discovering this place (thanks to my Uncle Dick – he’s a lurker who reads but doesn’t post) back in July 2008. Another is the FAX to Vilma that Stu mentioned above – that was fun when it started, and fun while it continues to last, too. But my most recent favorite moment was from last Fall when asaint posted The View from My Couch.

Good insights, hilarious pain-meds perspective, and then CP’s sweet comment…based on the high number of posts using “The View from…”

.I thought CSC was a man cave why do you guys keep bringing up "The View"?

That was too funny.

And who knew that asaint would be part of such a large parade of Saints sports hernia surgeries?

I have been laid up since I had surgery last Wednesday. Nothing to serious, repaired nerve damage from a hernia surgery

5.What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?

Increased membership (and the to-be-expected growing pains that are kinda bumpy, but we work through them and emerge as a stronger community), more hilarity, continued excellence, more featured writers (as soon as I hit the lottery and retire, I’m signing up as a frequent contributer, and you’d better watch out for my excellence), the same jokes recycled by the same “old guard” members, and more access to more players.

Thanks again to Dave for being the all-powerful and benevolent and dedicated moderator of this community.

1-Self-disciplined blog.
Posters are mostly civilised, and older members allow themself to "referee" it a bit.

2-Analysis, analysis, analysis.
How nice would it be to have ex-players or coaches, that were at an elite level, drop by
and give us their view from there past experiences? I know I’d like some more of this.

3-That’s an easy one…Erin!!!!
Or any woman that looks at me the way she does while knowing the answer to that "riddle" in
your avatar, Mr Cariello…Wait, would I have to hear about you all the time? Scratch that, I’ll
    keep looking around…

4-Draw…
Anything involving Pierre Thomas and Lance Moore doing everything they could to earn a
    roster spot at the time.

5-French CSC franchise?

Repeat? Under construction...

I'll take 'the rapist' for $500, Alex.

1. Year-round POV of all kinds of Saints topics from people who are knowledgeable and passionate about the BLKandGLD.
2. More encouragement for new or quiet members to join the discussion.
3. Whichever one knows how to build a boat.
4. Everything following our first Superbowl in franchise history.
5. More of the same, but better. Oh, and lots more disgruntled troll fans from other teams complaining about how we won, why we should have lost, the refs gave us the game, how vicodin gave us an unfair advantage, etc. etc, etc.

I'm new so take my view with a grain of salt

1. My favorite aspect has to be the fact that coming here I can get Saints news without having the usual bias of “New York, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre is the best QB ever” of the MSM. And any biases that do occur I’m ok with since they are pro Saints :).
2. I’d Love to see players post. Even if its only one or two posts a month or just one, knowing we have players posting and commenting here would be great. But if not probably just some analysis of opposing teams (or future teams in the off season since this one is taking forever)
3. Umm don’t really know anyone here that well, so I’d have to take someone who is calm so that way we don’t kill each other.
4. When SBNation posted that congratulations Saints fan banner on the sides of the page, was not only great but always made me get uhh dust in my eyes.
5. After the 3rd Super Bowl win of the Saints and Brees’ amazing season of 5234 yards passing with 52 TD’s 15 of them to Colston and 12 to Pierre on screens. Saints fans hearts all give out at the same time due to too much excitement, and beer.

1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?
That the IT department at my work has yet to block it.

2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?
I’d like to see “new” FanShots indicated in bold black, as they are on FanPosts. The black stands out a whole lot more than gold under gold. Also, bumping the most recently replied to Shots/Posts to the top of the order would be great, as well. As is, once a topic falls off the front page, it seems almost pointless to post a reply, as no one is going to look at the older posts to realize that you did. As long as a topic isn’t locked, I don’t see the point of this out-of-sight, out-of-mind limbo. Hot topic discussions shouldn’t need to be “rec’d up” to stay afloat. They should resurrect themselves, based on interest, not (necessarily) buried, based on newer posts.

3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.
Sarah’s the obvious choice, but I’d settle for stujo4. As long as he agreed to wear these whenever we swim:

4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?

I thoroughly enjoyed the hypothetical mid-season collapse scenario thread and all of the superstitious fools who ever-so reluctantly participated. One would think that the dark apparitions from “Ghost” had arrived to drag away our very souls, the way some people were carrying on about it. “Things that shall remain unmentioned” have subsequently been whittled down to the Branch Davidians, season ending injuries to Drew Brees and in-progress no-hitters.

5. What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?

The Mayan calendar prevents me from speculating beyond 2012.

Here`s my thoughts........

1) Feeling part of a community knowing the various members quirks, loves and hates.
2) Things seem pretty good to me some of the suggestions above would work. I just need
a higher level of computer acumen then perehaps I could join in in a more flamboyant
     way.
3) I`ll forego the obvious choice of hot female member as even on a desert island with
no competition I would still be a hopeless failure , so maybe someone crazy like J1K
or the vikes version revenge4favre it would be a lot of fun tormenting that deluded fool.
4)The lead up to the NFCCG it was such an amazing time, bigger for me than the lead
up to the SB, as it was at home with a crazy partisan crowd with a huge chance to
make history my nerves were jangling from wednesday onward that week and I
read every gumbo and cocktail recipe posted listened to the excellent playlist
countless times and almost felt part of the occaision.
5)Bigger and better and recognition as THE premier blog of the New Orleans Saints.

Where next?

Lol some of you guys are pretty funny

1. What’s your favorite aspect of Canal Street Chronicles?

I like how personal and yet still professional it is. I also think Dave does a great job of trying to keep an open mind and look at things surrounding the Saints from a non-fan perspective. Many of the people that run other sports sites do it for their egos and that is not something I get from Dave at all.

2. What one change do you think would improve the site the most?

It would be nice to see an open non-subject related thread sometimes so people could just BS, post pictures, and get to know each other. Of course this would only be every long once in awhile so that it does not cheapen or take away from what this site is really about (see Stampede Blue).

3. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with just one CSC member, who would it be? Explain.

Probably Dave. He seems very dependable and logical. Someone I wouldn’t want to kill of after a week.

4. What is your all-time favorite Canal Street Chronicles moment, post, thread etc.?
What do you think the future holds for Canal Street Chronicles in five years?

Since I have only been on since January I would have to say anything related to winning the superbowl. I am spoiled at this point. I see it growing in size and power. I think the bad has a tendency to weed itself out and the good shine through. I see people recognizing this site for the great thing that it is. How could not want to be a part of it if you love the Saints?

Hmm

1. Favorite aspect – there’s actually some people here that possess true brain matter.

2. What changes would improve the site? – a button i can press to actually get me some real cajun chow delivered to Ted Turnerville.

3. Can any of you cook?

4. Favorite post – anything where i don’t have to read about Viking fans.

5. What does the future hold in 5 years? A lot of us keeping our fingers crossed that 36 year old QBs are still in the “prime”.
