Billy Miller won't be back in '10

Billy Miller has been one of my favorites since he joined the team in 2006. He's been a solid and speedy reciever and good morale support. Why do I think Billy Miller won't be back next season? Well for starters we drafted Jimmy Graham. But Sean Payton was talking at a press confrence and I caught this.

"At this stage, at this camp every year for us, we’ve been able to find a veteran like Billy Miller, who was able to work out for us at this camp in 06 for us on a three day tryout and ended up playing here for quite a while. Our scouts on both the college end and pro end, do a lot of work grading all of these guys to get them to the next step."

Started liking the guy with the Texans but

Loved him as a Saint. Do hope he makes it back this year. Aw he was another one of my favorite players, a great team player. I’m afraid I’ll be missing him come regular season.

I hope he comes back but I don't expect it.

With Shockey injury prone and Frank Thomas needing to be a TE/FB, I think Payton will go with a young guy he hopes will stay healthy even if he’s inexperienced and a project.

Do you mean Dave Thomas?

And unless Heath Evans hasn’t recovered, he will only be the backup FB and will be able to play TE most or all of the time.

Still, they won’t carry more than four TEs on the roster, even with how much SP loves them. And we still have Dan Cambell and Darnell Dinkins sitting out there despite on our roster last year, plus Tyler Lorenzen and Tory Humphrey already on the roster (probably only as camp bodies, but you never know). So unless the roster is Shockey/Thomas/Miller/Graham, I don’t think there’s any shot for Miller to return.

Neither is on any Saints roster (e. g., Brunell is on the unrestricted free agent list, not released yet) and I’ve got Diet Pepsi’s saying they will not be in 2010.

unless the roster is Shockey/Thomas/Miller/Graham

I think it may be. Don’t know, just think so.

I didn’t say they were on the roster. I said they were “sitting out there”. The only reason I said we have them sitting out there is because they were on our team last year, thus they are considered to be “our” UFAs instead of somebody else’s. So we can sign them if we want to (even though we haven’t and probably don’t want to either).

If we do bring back any of the ones from last year who are presently unsigned, I would say Miller has the best chance simply because he’s the youngest of the three. But I wouldn’t exactly bet the farm on him either.

Trying to follow FriarBob’s logic has forced me to reset and clear my head. I love Billy, but he’s 33 and he had a torn achilles tendon the first week of September last year. There is no way he’ll be ready for anyone’s camp this year, it takes at least a year for that injury to heal even on a young man. Probably won’t be back except as a late season injury replacement in a pinch, at best, like McKenzie was last year.

I loved Frank Thomas. Bad attitude and all.

Can't wait to see

the plays that Payton comes up with for this 6’8" receiver from what y’all have said his blocking ability is lacking.

Graham is officially 6’ 6". They are weighed and measured at the Combine.

Wow. How often have you said, "Come on guys, put on thongs . . ."?

On second thought, I’d rather not know. Eeeeegh!

what is a "combine sheet"???

News reports?

The NFL measured him and published it on their website. What more official source could there be?

Don't know for a fact but

Shockey seemed to be having the same injury for the better part of the season. Please don’t attack heck I love his attitude. But he played in pain and was slow on passing routes.

no question about it

And he also made that awesome game winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl.

And no offense to the other TEs,

but our passing game just seems to click better when he’s on the field.

It is a Saints touchdown! Seventy yards on the return! Seventy yards on the return by Porter! He did it to Favre and now he's done it to Manning!

He also took some hits

and gave some. But man I;d like to see him rest up and maybe wear more padding next season. He plays a nasty game. I’m happy he plays for us or I’d hate this guy.

How old is Billy?

I thought he was around the same age as Shockey or younger?

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

by TAYDIGGA on May 9, 2010 9:13 PM CDT reply actions

Billy is 33, Shockey turns 30 in August and still has his Achilles tendons intact.
