Canal Street Chronicles Fantasy Football on CBSSports.com

Judging by a few of the FanPosts written recently, I can tell a lot of you are getting antsy to start scratching your fake football itch again. And even though it's only June, I've got a little taste of something that ought to get you through these tough times.

Enter the good people at CBSSports.com. Unlike years past when we've used other platforms, we are only going to have one official Canal Street Chronicles fantasy football league this season. Obviously, we will be using the CBS Sports platform, a noticeable upgrade in my opinion. And not just any CBS Sports platform; we've got access to their Fantasy Football Commissioner level, the best they offer. It's like the Caymus of fantasy football.

Here are some of the features that set the Commissioner League apart from others:

  • The ability to manage your league and your team via your mobile phone.
  • Expert and user generated analysis
  • Live chat/league instant messenger
  • Fast and incredibly accurate live scoring
  • Archived league data so that you can pick up where you left off the season before
  • Customization of entire league, rules, scores, teams and more
  • Multiple draft options including auction drafts

I don't know about you but I am getting a little warm and tingly down there just reading that list. Honestly, I've never played in a league that swanky.

So how do you get in on this action? Simple: Just let me know in the comment section below and throw your name into the ring. Our official league will have twelve teams including myself which leaves room for only eleven members to join. How those eleven members get chosen is up to you as a community. Vote in our poll below to determine the selection process. We'll go straight from there. Voting ends Sunday at noon.

Sadly, this means that some members will inevitably get left out. Fortunately, it's not about what you know but who you know, and you know me. Because SB Nation is partnered with CBSSports.com, they are giving all fans and readers of our blogs 50% off their regular Commissioner League price and a 14-day free trial! Normally $180, you would only have to pay $89.99 to start your own league and get all the great features we'll be using in our official league that I just told you about. Then laugh at all of your other friends who blew all their money on some other platform.

CLICK HERE to take advantage of this sweet, half-off deal.

That's it. There's no strings attached. You don't need me or anyone else related to Canal Street Chronicles for anything. Just by  reading this post and clicking here, you save $90 and pay half of what the rest of the world normally would. Suckers.

Want to start up your own personal league with your own friends? Now your a money-saving hero. Been thinking about stepping up to a more serious fantasy football platform? This is the perfect opportunity to get your feet wet without blowing your rent check. Already paying for a league that's more expensive? Make the switch and don't tell your friends, then pocket the extra cash.

Keep in mind that $89.99 price is for the entire league, not per person. So if you set up a twelve team league and divide the cost evenly among all of you, that's just $7.50 per person. I know you will all be creating fantasy football  leagues this year, either with other members of Canal Street Chronicles or with your personal friends, so I highly encourage all of you to take advantage of this opportunity.

If any of you want to gauge interest and/or organize your own Canal Street Chronicles fantasy football league using CBSSports.com Commissioner League, feel free to create FanPosts to do so.

So who's ready to do this!?

CBSSports.com is an SB Nation partner and paying sponsor of the SB Nation football communities. This post is one of a series of sponsor endorsed posts related to the CBSSports.com Fantasy Football Commissioner League.

Dave picking would also prevent any funny business as far as voting is concerned. I like to think no one would stoop to rigging the vote, but there would be a lot of opportunities for abuse with an open vote.

I'll join

Maybe I’m just not paying attention, so it’s $7.50 to join ur league or was that just for another person to create their own league?

by Jon Banks on Jun 19, 2010 12:40 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

That's if someone creates their own league with 12 teams

We are going to have one, singular official league for CSC, free of charge.

I would be honored to participate in the official league

My qualifications? uh…. This is like a job interview…. What a lovely office you have here, sir…

Don’t laugh, I’m a positive team owner. During the draft, I congratulate good picks. Except when I curse another owner who picks the player I wanted right before my turn.

I never make trade offers that are ridiculously in my favor. I consider any trade offered to me, and if I decline, I always counteroffer.

I always actively manage my team, always submit my weekly lineup on time.

Even though I won the CSC 2008 season fantasy league, I’m always good for a least one boneheaded waiver of a player who has value for you, or for drafting 2 kickers with the same bye week, that sort of thing.

I am interested in the job and I hope you’ll consider me for the position. Thank you very much, sir, you have a lovely family.

What the heck are you doing drafting two kickers to begin with?

Snap, place, kick! And it's good! It's good! It's goo-hoo-hood! Pigs have flown! Hell Has frozen over! The Saints are going to the Superbowl!

Stu brings up a good point

Since we only have one league, members HAVE to be active participants. Everyone is going to hate you forever if you sign up for our league than never update your roster.

I'm throwing my hat into the ring.

But here’s a suggestion. Would multiple member ownership be possible? Say for instance Coldpizza wants to join forces with stujo4. Would that be possible? It would allow more players!

Nothing But Good Experiences

I’ve been the Commisioner of a league on CBS Sportsline for the past 8 years and we’ve had nothing but good experiences. The customization features are great and the scoring is real-time. Plus, you can talk trash on your League Message Board. If there’s still a spot available in the CSC league, I’d love to participate!

Confession time

I like to think of myself as a fast learner, but sometimes I’m Dang slow. It was only in the past few weeks that I realized many CSC members are FF fanatics. I’ve never been one; it just doesn’t seem to appeal to me. Part of my realization included, “Well, no wonder you guys are such statmeisters” and “No wonder you guys know so much about players from other teams.” I’m sure I could learn a lot more about the NFL overall if I were into FF, but I’m just not into it. I doubt I’m the only such CSC member, but I suspect I’m in a minority. If you let people like me vote, we might just screw things up. That’s why I voted for our Fearless Leader to select FF participants. Plus, when it comes to FF, I bet he knows our members better than I do.

by Dang Hu Dat on Jun 19, 2010 2:46 PM CDT reply actions

nothing wrong with that, Dang

I used to work with a guy who had never played in an FF league and joined ours. He said it ruined his regular routine of NFL enjoyment. He no longer cared about his favorite team, only about his FF player stats and it really bothered him. He only played FF that one year. Go with your instincts.

No way, Dang you are not the only one...

I was in a FF league of college friends for 10 years, and was commish of it for the last 4. I enjoyed it for much of the time I was in it, but I got out of the league for just the same reasons…it changed the way I was watching the main game (Saints vs. whoever) and all the other games each week, too, as I rooted for players instead of teams, and when I didn’t like it anymore, I retired.

The part I liked the most of the whole thing was preparing for and completing the draft, and feeling like a real owner and having endless optimism until the season started…

by Hans Petersen on Jun 19, 2010 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I have to force myself to not think about FF when the Saints are playing

When the Saints are on, it’s all about them getting the win for me. When they aren’t, I tend to watch the games in which I’ve got the most FF players. I had Andre Johnson on all six of my FF teams last year and Schaub and Slaton on some. So I wound up watching a lot of Texans games and rooting for their offense. If not for FF, I wouldn’t really care about watching other teams. It makes the NFL a little more entertaining when you’re able to keep it all in perspective.

that's true, too

I did have heightened interest in teams b/c of my FF roster that I would not have had otherwise, but it was only about the stats, and nothing to do with the actual winning or losing

I understand

You’re right about the stats and all. Before FF, I only watched the Saints and didn’t give a rat’s ass about the other teams. Now, I do watch the other teams but with emphasis mainly on the stats and FF points. So, at least I’m watching the other teams. :)

Make it a fourteen team league and everybody will REALLY be scratching for players. Increases the value of someone like Lance Moore. Or expand the number of starters. Or both, if you’re sadistic.

sidenote… The Centics were ROBBED on Thursday night!

I’m not really a basketball fan, but DAMN. I started watching with 8 minutes left in the 4th… Celtics were up by 4.

Don’t get me wrong, the Lakers were playing pretty damn good D at times and Boston was having trouble getting baskets…. but, two fouls against the Celtics when the Lakers guy steamrolled him? And the basket that counted where he went up and came down before he shot. And the elbow to the face that Kobe threw with no foul called.

Now I know how I felt when the Girls got away with murder in the Dome.

:-(

I think all prospective participants should submit a "nomination form" and Dave should choose the winners

from among the best-written, and give consideration to frequent contributors to CSC. Those that don’t make the cut can set up a 2nd league for half price.

The winners of each respective league will play each other in the SuperDuper Bowl (Week 17) in which no NFL team plays any starters, and it will be a most unsatisfying conclusion to the FF season…Ha! Just like real life sometimes.

Throw my name in as well...

I’ve been playing fantasy football since before the internet took over. I can remember drafting players using a legal pad and a Sports Illustrated mag. We had to call in a line-up every week to our commish, and check the box scores in the Monday newspaper to see how we scored. It’s a lot easier now, but those days were a lot of fun.

Cajun - the first few years of my league were like that

We were on a conference call for the draft, and we’d get called when it was our turn to pick – they’d give us all the picks that happened, and we’d have to make a quick pick and then hang up and wait. It was very different from today’s game.
