WhatIfSports complete NFC South preview and predictions
A few surprises here- they say we win the division at 12-4, but Carolina will be right with us also at 12-4. They don't have all the divisions' predictions out yet, but from what I can tell by looking at the other divisions they have so far, it looks like they rate the Packers, Cowboys, and perhaps the Chargers as slightly better than us, and every other team worse than us.

John Fox: Coach of the Year
If he can get the Panthers to 12-4, he deserves the trophy. My own best guess says their defense blows up big time this year. 6-10, and Fox is history.
It was worth the wait.

I think 6-10 is being kind. The ’10 Cats have all the makings of hot trash, imo.

Carolina will be a tough nut to crack, don’t kid yourselves. So those 10 losses are going to be heartbreakers for the Panters? Would you care to requalify (hedge) your position any further at this point?

Once again, picking cherries.
In five starts last year, he had a 98.5 passer rating on one of the best rushing teams in the league. If he can be efficient, and the Panthers’ run game doesn’t slow down any, Carolina will be a tough nut to crack, don’t kid yourselves.
We were discussing Matt Moore, who has played well when he got the chance. I said if he continues to play well, and the run game doesn’t slow down, Carolina will be tough. That’s the offense. Their problem, as I see it, will be their defense, where they’ve lost a lot of talent. Their line may be one of the worst in football now.
It was worth the wait.
Puzzling
Notice how for the raw simulations we are a 15-1team, with only loss @ Dallas…
Last season they picked the winner in about 70% of the games right… however it looks a bit premature running this type of exercise ahead of training camp, with people getting injured, cut etc..
Regarding Carolina, dont know what are they smoking – maybe they swapped the Falcons for the Panthers…?

They are banking on more injuries for the Falcons, probably.
But even though my bias against the Falcons is something I have to try to account for, I do actually think they’ve accurately predicted the order of teams in the NFC-S correctly. I think the Panthers have a better chance of coming in second than the Falcons do. The Falcons are us in 2007-08, all offense and no defense, and until they fix that they are going nowhere.
They have a better running game than we did in 2007-08. That can often times compensate for a sub-standard defense.

Last year's predictions
If you look in the site’s archives, you can find last year’s summer predictions. They had us winning the division last year too, but only at 9-7.
Last year's summer playoff predictions
Here: http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/default.asp?article=2009NFLPREVIEW
Not bad about the playoff teams- they were right for 4 out of 6 in the AFC (with Houson and Pittsburgh in over Cincy and Baltimore) and 5 out of 6 for the NFC (with the Giants in over the Packers). The playoff results were off, though.
Well I will give them credit for a bold prediction
Even though it’s massively wrong and the Panthers will be lucky to crawl out of the basement much less take a wild card spot.
Using our NFL simulation engine, we have “played” the entire 2010 NFL season. Each game was simulated 501 times.
Enhanced coin flips. Not impressed.
But they annoyed me enough to make the List.

Good. Because I love it when you are wrong.
Dude, these were the only people out there who were able to come even remotely close to correctly predicting several parts of last year’s playoffs. Everybody else “knew” the Saints would lose to the Cards, these guys correctly simulated that we would blow them out. Everybody else “knew” the Jets were talking smack and being idiots, these guys correctly figured out they had a really good chance. Everybody “knew” the Vikings would win, they correctly simulated that we would, and even got the margin of victory right (if not the score). And everybody “knew” the Colts would win the Super Bowl, these guys correctly simulated the opposite.
Right now, it’s a grossly early preview and should be taken with a grain of salt. But their simulation engine is one HELL of a lot better than mere “coin flips”.
They were definitely better than the Accruscore that gets posted on ESPN

Not now, it isn’t. But you pointed that out, too: “Right now, it’s a grossly early preview…” Their data is pretty much worthless at this stage.
It was worth the wait.
I wouldn’t say “pretty much worthless”.
They have extensive stats on a huge majority of NFL players.
They are guessing at starting rosters and rookie stats and the impact of scheme/new coaches… but they do have a huge amount of data to go on.
I don’t think they’re perfect, especially with all the guessing they have to do, but they are BY FAR the best (most accurate and most informed) guesses you will ever see before the season starts.

but ir probably didn't take but 13.3 seconds for all the sims to run
