CSC All-Time Saints Team Election: Defensive Tackle No. 2
It's election time, baby! Today we're choosing the second defensive tackle for our all-time Saints team here at CSC. Just in case you missed the nomination post, get yourself caught up right here.
We had some good discussion and a couple of other players mentioned but not much overwhelming support for anyone in particular so I've decided to leave the nominations unchanged.
The polls are officially open and will remain so for exactly 48 hours which means they will close at 6am on Wednesday, July 18th. You only get one vote so make it count. You can make a difference. If you've never voted in a CSC poll to date, now is the perfect time to start. Be sure to tell everyone you know to come on over and vote as well.
As always, the comment section is open for more discussion about these great players and the way things used to be.

What? No love for Johnathan Sullivan?
J/K. Moore gets my vote.

I have moore important things to do...
Than to try to figure out who was a moore complete defensive tackle, and I don’t want to hear any moore discussions about it. I’m not even going to volunteer moore information on who I’m gonna vote for. If you want to know moore, you’ll have to ask me. Maybe I’ll have moore to say, or maybe I won’t.

Derland Moore....of course, hands down.
apparently, however, 60% of the voting public ignored Stu’s terrific write up on the last forum about why he’s so deserving.
Norman Hand briefly* had his own chicken wing restaurant in Kenner. I think that needs to be factored in.

This would be funny had he not recently died.

Even i admit that went too far.
Let’s neither speak ill of someone who unfortunately passed, nor stoke the sympathetic vote please.
Moore
BTW If anyone wants to help defend Jonathan Vilma against Jon Beason over at CSR here is the link

And now a word from one of our sponsors "Preparation H, when discomfort sneaks between your cheeks, Preparation H"
Sorry, love Vilma….Beason’s the better player and still learning. Of course the debate is now moot, as Beason is being moved to Weakside Linebacker this year instead of the Mic.
Debate started over "nobody in league is better in coverage than Beason."
there were 21 inside linebackers with better coverage stats last year.
And now a word from one of our sponsors "Preparation H, when discomfort sneaks between your cheeks, Preparation H"
Interesting…though coverage stats for linebackers are very misleading. Unfortunately that’s pretty much a debate that can’t really be proven one way or another. Beason obviously has the better speed and range, Vilma the more football smarts at this point in his career. Without putting the two in the same system and watching them side by side, the only thing the debate will prove is which person arguing likes their player more.
I’m guessing this all came out because of the pro football weekly article that declared Beason the best in the NFL in pass coverage.
Do you remember Vilma’s near interception in the Super Bowl? Dropping into the deep middle zone, and if Collie hadn’t knocked the ball away it would have been Vilma coming up with it. That’s pretty good coverage: beating a wide receiver on a deep pattern. I don’t think Beason is any better. As for smarts…Vilma, hands down.
It was worth the wait.

BOOM rec'd it
Do you remember Vilma’s near interception in the Super Bowl?
The guy is on the field for every play. He’s awesome. I wouldn’t swap him for Beason.
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
Good thing he had a fax machine.

“I wouldn’t swap him for Beason.”
I would, but only because Beason can be lined up outside. A solid MLB isn’t really that hard to come by these days.

You would swap the captain, the play caller, of our defense?
And now a word from one of our sponsors "Preparation H, when discomfort sneaks between your cheeks, Preparation H"
The play relayer, you mean? Sure, if it meant improving at the Will.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
vilma does a little more than that
he has had some pretty key audibles to save our ass. including (but not limited to) a coverage audible that led to porter picking off favre in the nfccg and another audible that had him running stride for stride with collie (who barely prevented an interception) in the super bowl.

We would be swapping the captain, the play caller, of our defense, for the captain, the play caller of their defense. Vilma is a very, very good player. There’s probably only 3-4 players at linebacker that i would be willing to trade him for….Beason just happens to be one of them is all. Nothing wrong with that.
Going strictly off talent — i.e., not taking production vs pay into account — I’d agree with that. If you start breaking it down though, I think there are probably 20 or so I/MLBs that are roughly equal or better bargain players. That’s one position I just don’t put a whole lot of emphasis on at the pro level. Not saying I don’t think it’s important to have a solid guy in the middle, just that most teams do. It’s just hard to fathom that as a Saints fan, considering the inexplicable dry spell we encountered between Winfred Tubbs and Vilma. Still, if you look at the guys we COULD have had in between, you can’t really blame that on a lack of availability.

that guy you were arguing with
is hilarious haha. I wish i could do what he does: say things are because he says so lol

I've seen the light
Read everything and voting for Moore.
Now, I will not back down when we have the QB debate. I really can’t wait for the old timers to make a case against Brees.

I can’t see that happening. I’m voting for Brees and who loves Archie more than I do?

Yeah, I think it'll be Brees in a landslide

There should only be one name on the ballot.
"Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight. " ~Benjamin Franklin
or…
If we have to have other players on the ballot, anyone who votes for the opposition should have their account locked for 1 week – Soup Nazi style… that, or their avatar should be changed to a picture of Benedict Arnold. :-) (It’s just a joke people.)

Most of us aren't ignorant, Joshua.
While I always admired Archie (and still have the photo from 18 years ago of my son wearing a #8 shirt when we attended a game,) Brees has made it abundantly clear that he possesses skills that Archie would have died for. I’m talking physical, football skills. Archie had a good share of leadership skills that have served him well in life, but he’s no Drew Brees!
The folks that have been clamoring about and voting for younger members usually point to a number of plays that people were involved in. I don’t think anyone could say that Drew hasn’t already compiled an impressive complete resume of work!
