CSC All-Time Saints Team Election: Kicker

Based on your discussions yesterday I've decided to go ahead with the formality of a poll, even though we're all pretty certain who will win anyway, to select the kicker for our all-time Saints team here at Canal Street Chronicles. Just in case you missed the nomination post, read it right here

The other kickers many of you thought were worthy of being included on the ballot along with Morten Andersen were John Carney, Tom Dempsey and Doug Brien. They have each been added.

The polls are officially open and will remain so for exactly 48 hours which means they will close at 6am on Saturday, July 24th. You only get one vote so make it count. You can make a difference. If you've never voted in a CSC poll to date, now is the perfect time to start. Be sure to tell everyone you know to come on over and vote as well.

As always, the comment section is open for more discussion about these great players and the way things used to be.

Wow! It's already a blowout.

As it should be. Mort is one the greatest NFL kickers ever.

Did we have to even poll this question? 8)

without a doubt MA, is the man, Carney, Dempsey get their props. and Hartly is only just starting!

In a way guys with these guys the saints have never gone wrong. Props to them all

Carney

Has left nothing but sour memories for me, so I don’t see what sort of props he deserves. He was a serviceable Charger.

I think we can shorten this one to a 24 hour poll

Now that the formalities are out of the way, the voice of the people is clear.

I agree. While it is mathematically possible for anyone to win based on the sheer amount of CSCers there are, I don’t think any of us have any doubt in our mind about who will win. Carney, Dempsey and Brian have gotten their respect, each of them have gotten a vote, so I say we should close it tomorrow instead of Saturday.

"Here's the funny thing. Last night, I couldn't sleep too well. I called my dad (Bill) at 2:15 in the morning, and told him I had a feeling I was going to hit the game-winner from 42 yards on the right hash. I think I was two yards off."- Garrett Hartley

I agree. The other guys deserved the nomination. But that’s all they deserved. Morty is the only one who truly deserved to win.

I kind of feel bad for Brien

nobody should get a vote yet still be declared to be at zero percent.

you must have missed our nominations post on this...

saints-nation posted a stats summary:

Charlie Durkee 4 seasons, 51.5% FGs, 98.9% PATs. He was awful. Shouldn’t be included.

Tom Dempsey 2 seasons, 53.3% FGs, 94.2% PATS. He was awful. He made a 63 yard field goal, so if you want to include him based on one kick during a 3 win season, be my guest. Shouldn’t be included in my opinion.

Doug Brien 6 seasons, 82.6% FGs, 99.3% PATs. The dude was automatic. Also has the best PAT % of any Saints kicker. I think he should be included.

John Carney 7 seasons, 82.7% FGs, 98.5% PATs. Say what you will about the missed PAT vs. Jacksonville that cost us the game, the bottom line is the guy is the most accurate kicker in Saints history.

Morten Andersen, 13 seasons , 77.6% FGs, 98.6% PATs. Carney and Andersen have the same PAT rate essentially, with Brien way ahead, and Carney and Brien have have the same FG rate with Andersen way behind.

Based on longevity and accolades, I still think Morten is the man, but I think a vote is in order based on the very solid numbers Carney and Brien both put up. The no love for Brien is pissing me off. The dude was a very solid kicker for us.

and if you want to, go read the whole thread…try this although it’s a lot to sift through.

should be a landslide

Morten is the Saints all-time leading scorer, the Falcons all-time leadng scorer and the NFL’s all-time leading scorer. dude should be a first ballot HOFer.

That's Gary Anderson

Gary Anderson is the league’s all-time leading scorer. But, yeah.

by creeperjones on Jul 23, 2010 12:10 AM CDT up reply actions

UH UH...

That’s MORTEN ANDERSEN

by jray2000 on Jul 23, 2010 1:25 AM CDT up reply actions

I picked Morten, but believe me I loved Doug Brien. I guess because Morten played so long for the Saints is why I chose him. Carney is no slouch either but his days were mostly in Chargerville. But you know what I love?, We have Hartley now, look out Morten.
