Question for anyone familiar with DirecTV's NFL Season Ticket
We are considering signing up for the DirecTV NFL Season Ticket, since we no longer live in the area but still want to follow our team. Here is my question: I've spoken to a couple of people that have had it, and they tell me that if you sign up for the package after the season starts, you can get it at a reduced rate. Has anyone had experience with this? Since the first couple of regular season games are going to be televised nationally anyway, I'm thinking about not signing up until the end of September. Does anyone know when they would be likely to reduce the costs or how much? I'm wondering how to get the most bang for my bucks! Thanks--I appreciate any input from my fellow Who Dats!

I've gotten the Sunday Ticket for 6 years in a row
And I have noticed that at some point, they offer a discounted rate for in-season purchase of the Ticket. What I can’t remember, though, is how much of a discount they actually offer, or when exactly they start offering it. Sorry.
Maybe you can google “in-season discounted Sunday Ticket” and see what comes up…

yeah… they do offer a discount of some sort, but from what I remember it wasn’t a very big discount… and they didn’t start offering it until week 7 or 8 – I THINK.
I’d also recommend googleing it… and, DirecTV has a forum on their site… I’d start by searching their archives.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
i'm pretty sure
that the discount is 50% off the original price halfway through the season. i really liked the sunday ticket because you can watch all the games of the season. i’ve only had it 1 year but if you sign up before a certain date i believe you get a discounted rate. you’d have to check the site for more info. i think that if you don’t do the early bird special it’s $300 for the season.
Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

More than that now!
I checked with them, and it’s almost $400. Problem is that I missed the “early bird” sign up time by a couple of weeks.

I have found
with Directv, that you can call them and request to have your local channels changed to whichever market you want.

That would be sweet,
but then I wouldn’t be able to get news or updates for my actual local area. Living fairly close to DC (about 60 miles or so,) I’d like to keep an eye on those fools.

Directv NFL package renewal is $270 dollars split up on 6 monthly payments.
The one thing I’m glad about is they finally got some common sense and added the HD feed in the normal package. I was pretty peeved last year when the HD was not included and I would have to pay another $100 dollars for the super fan package. I remember when I first got NFL package is was only $199 with a renewal of $139. That lasted for a year or two, but ever since the price has increase. I had a couple of weak moments and almost cancelled a couple of times during the hasllet years.
Yeah, they've cornered the market, so they can raise the price to whatever they want
Per contract with the NFL, only DirectTV has Sunday Ticket, which drives their competitors crazy. It’s my understanding that the disputes between the NFL and companies like Comcast and others about NFL Network is because those companies are pissed that they can’t get in on the Sunday Ticket revenue. DirectTV is the unquestioned leader right now in television entertainment in part due to their NFL package. Still, I haven’t really had any problems with them during my time with them. I remember when I first started a satellite service a few years ago I mistakenly called DISH and asked about getting all the NFL games on Sunday. They tried to dupe me into using them even though they couldn’t offer this package. They tried to con me into thinking they had something close. They don’t.

The first year we got the Sunday ticket,
I didn’t know that you had to have the super fan package to get HD. When we realized that, I called Directv and they said they would happily add it for another $100. I told them that was unacceptable. I told them that I listen to their commercials offering “special deals” to new customers and wonder why they don’t offer these deals to long-standing customers. After a little back and forth, the dude added the super fan HD package at NO extra cost to me. But he let me know that I would have to pay for it the next year, which I did. I’m glad it’s included this year. I really didn’t even pay attention to the cost. At this point, I can’t live without it.

Something else to be aware of as an NFL fan (in regard to the Sunday ticket)
In addition to getting to see all the Saints games, you get access to every single NFL game every weekend. So when your local CBS/FOX affiliate is showing the Bengals-Bills or Colts-Jaxonville or Tennessee-Oakland (or a national draw – Dallas, etc.) in your viewing area, you can dial up WHATEVER GAME YOU WANT TO WATCH before or after the Saints, plus the RED ZONE CHANNEL, which zooms from game to game, for scoring chances, 3rd down conversions, punts, etc.
One of the things I like the most is switching over to the Red Zone Channel after the Saints go to halftime, and then watching the other games as they approach halftime, focusing on whatever is the most exciting or meaningful to me.
Sean Payton and the players need to focus on the upcoming season and defending the title but I don’t.
and then, as those other games reach halftime, it's time to turn the Saints back on
One drawback is that with all those games going on and keeping up with them, you have less commercial time to go to the bathroom. But then you can just pause the Saints game while you TCoB, and remember that DVR is AWESOME.

Some other cost cutting options...
Did you know that if you order events online they don’t charge you a fee (usually 5 or 6 dollars if you use phone).
I have 5 receivers @ 5 different addresses. I only pay $5.99 for each additional receiver (while I charge $40 for each one a month) on one account instead of having to pay for each individual account. My bill is around $150 a month, I get every channel and so do the others. I can cover my bill just with those 4 others paying me, this way it don’t hurt to buy ppv as much.
