FROM A UCLA BRUIN'S PEN: FORGETTING BUSH A BAD CALL FOR USC
I have to admit I'm astonished this come from the mind of a Bruin. But he's on-point and of course I agree. He makes points that we've heard echoed all across the Internet already. I'm posting this for kicks than for anything. It takes some serious maturity and objectivity to write this. He calls his schoolmates out too! most people take any shot they can get at their rival school without reason or rationale. Love this article! Enjoy the read.

Now, what 18-year-old, especially a young black or Latino male from a low-income household, would say no to the pitch that I just presented?
Low-income, I can see. But what does black or Latino have to do with it? Are they more depraved than whites? Have naturally lower standards? Are easier to con? I wish this writer would spell it out instead of making us guess.
It was worth the wait.
I think he was trying to paint the picture of a stereotypical situation
and only proliferated the stereotype…
Don't worry I got your back cuz...
i think he was trying to sympathize with blacks or latinos
but i think it’s condescending

The annual tuition at USC is about 50K a year before living expenses. Why is it that the NCAA feels it’s alright for a school to bribe a kid with a free ride athletic scholarship worth a quarter of a million over four years, but heaven forbid anyone else should do him a favor (like the kid who “borrowed” a Land Rover).
The NCAA should enforce existing rules regarding a school or school representative using unfair “enticements” to get a kid to select their school to begin with. But once the decision is made and the deal is done, I think anything a college athlete negotiates with a company or individual not connected to the school (as long as it’s not criminally illegal) should be the college athlete’s business and not the NCAA’s.
Would there be possibilites of mis-use with such a system….. certainly. But, it wouldn’t be any more flawed or nearly as hypocritical than the bulls**t system they’ve got now. That system, by the way, is “no one can make money off of a college athlete’s ability except the college”.
I hope Reggie uses this experience as motivation to reach his full potential as a Saint and forgets about USC the same way they’re trying to erase his existence there and what he did for their program.
agreed, the system is wack.
I know he broke the rule but it’s like having a rule in a flawed system, no matter how legalistic the enforcers are, the punishment is way to much and the crime really isn’t that big of a deal. Fix the system…It’s retarded that college players can’t have a dime of the money they make for the schools. I don’t care that they might POSSIBLY make money in the pros, it just isnt fair!
Don't worry I got your back cuz...
Whatever happened to that court case
where Tim Couch sued the NCAA for using the players identities and attributes (without giving their names) in the NCAA college football video game? People should care about that a little more imo.
