State of the Saints Address - WR's
In my own humble opinion, when it comes to depth this is the strength of the team. For all the of the Crewe of Drew out there that are now short of breath due to this comment, I totally agree that this team goes as Drew goes and there will be no trophies on the shelf with out him. When it comes to position depth though, the saints can arguably have 2 or even 3 injuries at one time and still be a 30 point per game team. Colston, Meachem, Henderson and Moore are all legitimate starters. Gotta say that last year, I wouldn't have thought so as I felt Henderson was too inconsistent and frankly Meachem was non-existent, but now Henderson is a massive threat with world class speed and I feel that Meachem will give a heck of an argument as to why he should be a starter along with Colston.
Courtney Roby is a beast on special teams and Adrian Arrington has kept showing potential, but it's time for him to either grab a roster spot or clear outta the way for some new blood. You also gotta love it when the Saints go five wide and put a lil guy known as #25 in one of the slots and watch the hair of the opposing defensive coordinator begin to gray instantly.
I think the only real question here is who should start next to Colston? I kinda leaning toward Meachem because of combination of size and speed. Besides he made some catches last year that finally showed people..."Hey! Look! I got some hands over here!" So let me know what you think the starting WR line up should be.

I'd thought Meachem would be a prime candidate to take #2 spot away from Henderson
but I’ve been hearing that even though he excels at what he does he’s severely limited in his passing route tree. I hope he’s able to develop more in those shorter routes. Something to watch for in camp?
It's crazy how much things change in one year.
Lance Moore led the team in receiving yards in 2008, fights through a few injuries in 09, and we almost forget he’s on the team. That’s depth. Colston is without question a starter, and then the fact that Moore, Henderson, or Meachem can step in at anytime and start along side him is amazing. In all reality, I don’t think it matters who starts because we run so many multiple wide sets that all of these guys will get their opportunities and Drew will find the open man
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
Exactly
Thats why we have the deepest and overall best receiving corps in the league! We just don’t have huge names because Brees doesn’t throw to anyone enough for them to get 1,500 yards.

Lance Moore is special
Watch this guy’s moves after the catch…he fits in so well with our crew and I think he’s going to have a great year…

With the best WR Corps in the league
It is hard to determine who will be the #2 guy this year. I want to say Henderson, but he still fights bouts of “STONEHANDITIS”. Meachem was extremely hungry to prove himself last year and when given the chance, he didn’t blow it. Henderson is getting better at catching the ball, but I am still haunted by the wide open drop when playing the Cowboys. Maybe Meach could have come down with it, maybe not. Either way, they are both #2 quality WR’s. Also taking into consideration that Moore should be 100%, this complicates this a bit. Brees spreads the ball around very well, so everybody can get a piece of the pie, but when you really need that extra set of hands on the field with Colston, who do you choose? Maybe we should try converting Henderson into a running back to mix in to the RBBC rotation. Just drop the end around BS and let him try a couple of sweeps from lining up in the backfield. The offense is overloaded with talented receivers besides Colston, Henderson, Meachem, and Moore, like Shockey, Baconator, Miller (if he is back at 100%), then you have Evans, Reggie and PT that are equally as dangerous receiving options as well. I am starting to wonder if Payton isn’t cross training these guys to throw them in at any position. Baconator can line up at FB in a pinch, Reggie at WR, maybe Henderson will line up in the HB spot at some point of the season. How interesting woould it be to a DC to try and defend players when none of them are in their conventional positions?

I really don't think Henderson has problems with bad hands anymore
Toward the end of last year, he held on to pretty much everything and was very reliable. he shed his past reputation.

It was this one game
Where he dropped a very catchable pass in the endzone (Dallas). He still has bouts with stonehands. Meachem seems to have better hands and matches the speed of Henderson quite well.

I understand. But that is just one instance. I mean Colston dropped one that hit him in the face against the Colts.
Everyone drops a few. Its just that he had the past reputation. I agree that I think Meach is the most skilled receiver we have with his size, speed, and solid hands. He just needs to polish the little things and continue to put in the extra time like the other guys to improve those areas such as route running, no drops, and getting on Brees’s level (know what he’s thinking). If he does that, he can flat out be the best we have.

The starters should be Henderson and Meachem, imo. Colston is better suited for the slot.

Not to disagree with you Oh Gracious Football God
But I would take Moore over Henderson.

I like Moore on 3rd and convertible distances and in the red zone.

I like Moore's Dependability
Which is probably why I favor him more than Henderson. Too many bad memories of the dropped passes of Stonehands Henderson still linger.

Personally, I prefer Moore for the same reason. I’d just rather be able to stretch the defense on first down, in order to better open up the run … and I think Henderson is a better option out of the gate in that capacity. Especially if Bush is in the starting lineup, which he typically is.

More like scary.
Meachem and Henderson are both burner types with frankly incredibly poor route running capabilities. That’s a major reason why Colston starts. Outside Moore he is by far our best route runner with the best hands and body positioning on the team.
They run three WR sets so often, he’d still be on the field nearly as much as he is now. His size, route running and hands are all ideally suited for the slot. That’s basically why he was a TE at the Hofstra. He’s built for going across the middle.

IMO
It doesn’t matter who starts . The Saints machine showed it can continue to produce . You have backs coming out of the backfield . And your line is in tact . The Vikes did offer a blueprint to shutting down your running game . And neutralizing Brees’s numbers . The Vikes will have to prove that formula in week one . Not to stir the pot ? If Brees and the running game are held to last years #’s . The game goes t overtime . The winner is irrelivant . Do you then worry that the formula has been broken . And the reign ends like the analysts say . Or is the Vikes Defense truely that dominant ??? I real question for real fans to answer only .
Dallas shut us down too and TB also held us to 17 when we were going full throttle
as did the Jets for the first half
I want to see us be varied enough that that doesn’t happen EVER (although I’d be ok with it just rarely happening)
Sean Payton and the players need to focus on the upcoming season and defending the title but I don’t.
