Just Can't Get Enough!
Of watching this video over and over again! I'm 40 years young and can't remember ever seeing a play like this on any football team ever. And the beauty of it is it was for the Saints! The Redskins Robert Meachem strip fumble for a TD! We're almost into the pre-season and counting down the days to see the Black n Gold on the field again.
In your years of watching football have you ever seen a play like this?
Clutch Moment - Robert Meachem (via TooClutchProductions)
The most incredible play I've ever seen! Will we ever see a play like this in our lifetime?

IMHO (In my Homer Opinion), it’s one of the greatest of all time.
There have been a couple of other INT, then strip fumble; but I’ve never seen one taken to the house or done with such… purpose and what seemed like forethought (the way he knifed through the blockers with the specific goal of getting the ball back).

PS. I like the production of the video you posted too.
Anything that get’s rid of those HORRIBLY biased commentators, get’s an A in my book.
(If you listen to the original broadcast, one of the D-bags in the booth says “AWWWWWWWWW!” twice when Meach strips and scores.)

I have been so caught up with what Meachum did that I missed the massive stiff arm that brees did to #99
Look around the 19-25 sec mark, Drew stiff arms this guy into the arm.

I remember that stiif arm when I first saw it!
I thought “yes, this play is going to be ok!” Then I saw him throw off his back foot and started moaning….then groaning at the pick. Then at the strip and TD I just stood there watching the TV with my mouth open. A totally amazing play.
I wonder if GW’s boys had ever stripped him of the ball at practice and he was using that?

Not only do I love the Stiff arm by Brees (Is he just that strong? Or the Redskin that weak?)
But what I loved about the play is the Saints sideline, they were all running with Meachem to the endzone. The play was just BA on an epic scale.
Brees is strong, but he probably knows some Judo, which uses his opponents weight and momentum against him. :-)

You can't get up and run with the ball and then claim to have been down by contact after the fact once you've been stripped for a TD the other way.
Snap, place, kick! And it's good! It's good! It's goo-hoo-hood! Pigs have flown! Hell Has frozen over! The Saints are going to the Superbowl!

Yes, twice prior. A practically identical play occurred during this 2003 MNF game between the Colts and Bucs. The second TD of the game is credited as a 57 yard fumble return by Keenan McCardell. Brad Johnson’s pass had been intercepted by Mike Doss, who was subsequently stripped of the ball by McCardell. This play is the basis for the “Keenan McCardell Rule”, which has been adopted by many FF leagues in order to govern the scoring awarded on such an unusual play. The only difference between Meachem’s strip and McCardell’s was that the latter hit the ground, before being scooped back up.
The other more recent double change of possession I’ve witnessed also involved Tampa Bay, but did not result in a TD. In a 2008 game vs the Broncos, Jeff Garcia’s pass intended for Antonio Bryant was intercepted by Marcus Thomas. Thomas returned the pick 11 yards, at which point he was stripped of the ball by Warrick Dunn. Arron Sears recovered for the Bucs.

not to be picky
but neither one of those happened on the last play of the half
NEVER QUIT!

not to be picky
but neither did Meachem’s play. Jason Campbell knelt to end the half at 0:14.

if you’re counting INT + Fumble plays that don’t end in a TD, Patriots had one (maybe even two) during their championship runs.
And, last year, Ravens threw an INT (Ed Reed) and I believe it was a Colts player who stripped it from Ed.
But, I don’t count those because a TD is points… although they are all displays of great effort.

Clutch, indeed
thanks for that!
And what about the #37 for the Redskins – he just let Meach slip right past him and get to the ballcarrier and strip the ball. He just laid his hands on Meach but didn’t block him at all, and if he even makes ANY KIND OF EFFORT to impede Meach’s progress, the strip/score never happens. I bet he got chewed up and spit out by his position coach at the film review of that game.
Sean Payton and the players need to focus on the upcoming season and defending the title but I don’t.
And I must say that your title made this song roll through my head (and that's a good thing)

This was one helluva play
Cant help but remembering how PISSED I was when I saw it and how I was hoping for everything that he had dropped the interception, just anything to reverse the call because at that point we still had a chance at the number one seed. But with nothing on the line and looking back at the play its pretty marvelous
I love Twins Baseball and Minnesota Vikings Football.

Thanks Percy
This play will always stick in my head till the day I die! Ya’ll had the chance for sure at being the number 1 seed at this time. But both of our teams fought ALL SEASON LONG! We were both great teams last season and we’ll be both great teams again in 2010.
Speaking of pissed. I was pissed during the Colts/Patriots game when the Patriots should have handed the Colts their first loss and let em back in the game after a 34-14 lead and lost 35-34. I wanted the Saints at that time to be the only undefeated team left. But it was stressful being 13-0 before Dallas handed our first loss. We were pulling to go 16-0, but that loss brought us back to earth.
Being undefeated is a very hard task!
Looking forward to the 2010 Season!!!
Counting down the days.
i had to listen to it on the radio
from the washington side… they went silent and just said “touchdown”… i had no idea what was going on. called my dad and he told me “hope you dvr’ed the game”
