CSC All-Time Saints Team Elections: Running Back
Ready to make it official? Time to select our CSC all-time Saints running back. In case you missed out on the nomination post, click right here. Based on your discussions yesterday I have decided to remove Tony Galbreath from the ballot because he was already included as a fullback. I have, however, replaced him by adding Reuben Mayes.
The polls are officially open and will remain so for exactly 48 hours which means they will close at 6am on Friday, July 30th. You only get one vote so make it count. You can make a difference. If you've never voted in a CSC poll to date, now is the perfect time to start. Be sure to tell everyone you know to come on over and vote as well.
As always, the comment section is open for more discussion about these great players and the way things used to be.

How on earth did Ricky Williams not make the cut? He was face of the franchise for three years!

Also, it’s R(UE)ben Mayes. The man is NOT a corned beef sandwich!

I’d agree that Ricky was the face of the franchise his (3 win) rookie year, but after that I’d have to go with Joe Horn.
And I’m not saying it would have really mattered, but having Ricky on the ballot would probably skew the results simply by getting the stoner vote.

-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Joe Horn? Who outside of New Orleans or KC even knew who Joe Horn was going into the 2000 season? That’s like calling Vincent Jackson the face of the Chargers this season. Not saying Vincent Jackson and/or his agent would disagree with that.

Horn was the only offensive pro-bowler the Saints had in 2000 (although Kyle Turley was an all-pro), so I’m guessing somebody out there knew who he was.

There’s a difference between being the best player and being the face of the franchise. Along with Drew Brees (and arguably even moreso initially) Reggie Bush has been the face of this franchise since the day he was drafted. There have been many players on the team that have outperformed him. That doesn’t make him anything less than the second most recognized player on this team, on the national level.

The difference there being that Williams led the Saints in rushing three times and was their first RB ever to top 1000 yds rushing in back-to-back seasons. Bush has led the team once and has yet to crack 600 yds rushing in four campaigns. In other words, I’m not saying being the face of the franchise is the ONLY reason Williams deserved to be on the ballot, just that it’s a bit silly that he isn’t, considering that he was + his on the field accomplishments in his short time here. Like I mentioned in the other thread, only Rogers averaged more yards rushing per game as a Saint.

BOOM rec'd it
A shameful slight to Ricky Williams.
Good times are comin',
but they sure comin' slow.
Also, Williams had 1000 yards rushing in 10 games that season. That’s on pace for 1600 sans injury. Pro Bowl or not, that’s a strong case for best overall player on the team. Of course, the same could be said of Blake or Brooks, had either played that entire season. They were all instrumental in helping the team reach the playoffs, albeit only Brooks (of that group) in their advancing.

And after his injury there was not a huge dropoff when Chad Morton, Terrelle Smith and Jerald Moore started getting more carries. On the season, their average yards per carry was pretty much right in line with Ricky’s. He was as replacable as they come.

You failed to mention Terry Allen, the most accomplished of the bunch. Three to four backs to do one man’s job. And you call that being replaceable?
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
love Terry Allen
First player to start in the NFL with ACL surgeries on both knees. I think.
He had the worst season of his career with the New Orleans Saints in 2000, when he was forced into action after starting RB Ricky Williams broke his ankle.
Good times are comin',
but they sure comin' slow.
Kind of interesting
Top 10 Saints by career rushing yards (overall NFL rank):
28. Earl Campbell
31. Ricky Williams
32. Terry Allen
33. Jim Taylor
48. George Rogers
51. Antowain Smith
57. Chuck Muncie
67. Deuce McAllister
118. Lamar Smith
144. Jim Otis
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
which is how it should be
Jim Taylor is a filthy animal. Or Green Bay Packer, same thing.
Only 3 of these should be on a Saints ballot. And I ain’t talking ’bout Chuck Muncie.
Good times are comin',
but they sure comin' slow.
Wow!
Jim Taylor was a Saint his last year in the Saints’ first year. Does anyone have a picture of him in a Saints uniform?
who the hell cares?
You like aging mercenaries who got cut by their home team, coming around here to collect a final paycheck? Well, do ya???
There you go. He’s #31.
Good times are comin',
but they sure comin' slow.
oh sure
Just like you, to post the BIG version.
Jim Taylor, pfffft.
Good times are comin',
but they sure comin' slow.
Oh, hell. Coffee on the keyboard again!
Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

Those helmets...
look like something hastily beat out with a hammer and an anvil in someone’s backyard metal shop. I know they aren’t metallic, but the gold paint makes them look like it. There’s probably very limited padding in them as well. Players today may be bigger and stronger, but those guys back then played with very little body protection. I like the bright gold uniforms. I wish the Saints would wear throw back uniforms more often. The last time I remember seeing them is when we played (and beat) the SB champion Bucs back in 2002.

Stu, that happened to me today!!!
I was on the set of a Japanese news show, and, wouldn’t you know it…?

“Ricky on the ballot would probably skew the results simply by getting the stoner vote.”
Stoners are Saints fans, too.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
They are also fans of anything remotely connected to pot. That doesn’t mean Phish and Widespread Panic deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And the fact that Stephen Colbert can get his name put on anything that’s open to an internet vote has proven to me that stoners that have absolutely nothing else to do can accomplish some very stupid things if acting in unison through the internet.

I was actually torn between Rogers and Muncie, being that they both used cocaine. Good thing I waited until my computer stopped tap dancing to cast my vote.

There’s no arguing with some people, I’ve slowly learned not to bother.

what horse? I just simply said there’s no use arguing with some people if they obviously have made up their minds and don’t want to listen to counter arguments.
I think you’re biased in your belief that all people from Montana ride and sit on horses all day….high horses or not.
Dammit Stu that’s just wrong!!!!! I always, and i mean ALWAYS have my pinky up while holding a glass. The picture is obviously not a fair representation of my snootiness.
plus, you are an onion martini kinda person

If bands connected to pot were disallowed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, there wouldn’t be a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
You don’t have to condone drug usage in order to admit it hasn’t been bad for your record collection.
Oh I’m not speaking against the drug itself, just some of the things I’ve noticed in many of its frequent users.

Kind of fitting
Deuce seems to be dominating this vote, as he should, and it was Deuce’s emergence on the team that helped them decide to trade Ricky. Considering how much of a douche Ricky was to Deuce in the beginning, I’m not sorry to not see his name among the candidates.

sidenote
just for fun and since I had another browser window open, I tried to vote for the poll (a second time) without logging in and from a different browser…
Here’s what happened…
Before I voted (the second time), there were 70 total votes.
I voted for Deuce.
It appeared to increase his vote count and total vote count by 1.
But, when I refreshed both browser windows, the vote count was back to 70.
(small sample size) conclusion: your vote probably doesn’t count, if you’re not logged in, even though it appears to count at first.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
This was tough because I really got into The Saints as a kid when Mayes got going,
and I loved Hilliard’s versatility—all those short passes he turned into long runs, but Deuce is the man.
