A Golden Oldie from 1970
I just caught this on "America's Game: the 1970 Baltimore Colts" on the NFL Network. Bubba Smith was describing the situation in the first AFC Championship game, when he knocked Oakland quarterback Daryl Lamonica out of the game in its early stages. In came the backup, 43-year-old George Blanda, the oldest quarterback in the NFL. Here's what Smith had to say:
"Every time you have the chance to take a lick on him, you take it."
Apparently, dirty play has a long pedigree in the NFL. Shame on you, Bubba!
