Charles not in charge

All is still quiet for former New Orleans starting defensive left end Charles Grant on the free-agent front, and the eight-year veteran and former first-round pick might have to wait for an injury in camp to draw interest from a team. Grant, 32, finished the past two seasons on injured reserve, is coming off a triceps injury that sidelined him for the playoffs in 2009, has been an underachiever for the past several seasons, and is linked to the still-unresolved StarCaps case, which could result in a four-game suspension. Plus, there are rumors that Grant, who is said to be dating NeNe Leakes, one of the stars of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” reality show, might not be that passionate about football anymore.

People close to Grant insist he still wants to play, but he’s made a lot of money the past few seasons for modest production, and folks question his motivation. Grant is one of several veteran defensive linemen who still don’t have a job, and consider themselves serviceable, and might need an injury to increase interest. Some of the others include Raheem Brock, Marques Douglas, Greg Ellis, Cornelius Griffin, Darren Howard, Jevon Kearse and Adewale Ogunleye.
