State of the Saints - O Line
Alright on to the guys who are near and dear to my heart. Not because I'm an ex-running back and know that the game is won or loss at the line of scrimmage. Not because I know that there has never been a successful QB that didn't at least have a marginally good group of guys in front of him. No, it's because in my aging years these are the guys that most look like me and allow me to say "Hey, see I still look like a playa!"
Anyway, the Saints line in a word "DOMINANT"! Gotta say that I was not a big fan of letting Jammal Brown go. I know he got a few penalties and Jermon Bushrod did hold the position down nicely when Brown was out, but I liked his power at the position and fealt like he was just coming into being the dominant tackle I think he will be. With that said, Zach Strief and Bushrod did a good job and I did like using the 2nd round pick on Charles Brown because Loomis and Payton do a great job of picking up future starters in the later rounds. For example, Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks (although I told everyone that Nicks was a beast) entered the league with little fan fare and now they are known as the best guard tandem in the league and Jahri Evans is now known as the best in the league. Jon Stinchcomb continues to simply be a consistent player who nobody ever talks about, but continues to do his job day after day. Jonathan Goodwin continues to surprise me with his play as I never expected him to hold a roster spot (not to mention a starting spot on the superbowl champs). Metcalf, Leckey and Duckworth were supposed to be the backups to Center and Guard, but Matt Tennant is once again showing us all that Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis know offensive lineman as this kid is looking like a NFL starter in the making.
So Saints fans what happens with Tennant? I put it out to you....

Anytime you can just plug in players.....................
and be confident about it, is what every team wishes they had. Depth can keep players fresh throughout the long season. I think and will predict that when the NFL goes to an 18 game season, they will increase the rosters from 53 to 58 to be able to have enuff healthy bodies becaue the two exyra games are for real and not just practice games. Anybody else have ideas????
