Fleur-de-Links: Payton, Belichick help improve each other's team

Our guys enjoyed a break from the cruel Louisiana heat today as they practiced against the Patriots in Foxboro, Mass. They'll practice once more against them in the morning before their matchup on Thursday night.

How 'bout we make a caption contest out of the above AP photo? Here's my entry: "So Tom, this is how big your cahoonas have to be when calling an onside kick to start off the second half of a Super Bowl."

The best news I see from today's practice regards the return of Patrick Robinson. He reportedly looked pretty good as he batted away a Tom Brady pass to Randy Moss. How's that for a rookie's first day against players outside his own team? Among the other links, Sharper has "no idea" when he'll return to practice, Malcolm Jenkins does an interview, and Deuce McAllister battles Joe Horn in Madden 11. More after the jump.

Top draft pick Robinson, Bon Jovi get attention in workout with Pats | New Orleans News, Local News, Breaking News, Weather | wwltv.com | Eye on Black and Gold
CB Patrick Robinson showed exactly why the Saints have confidence in him to be a solid first-round draft pick. Going up against Brady and receiver Randy Moss, Robinson made a nice move to catch up to Moss on the sideline and batted the ball away for an incompletion. Then, with Hoyer as quarterback and tight end Rob Myers as the receiver, Robinson made another good play to keep the Patriots from a completion. BOOM! Robinson Wrecked 'em!

These practices were a great idea

I was there for both practices today and they were a blast. High energy and spirited play was the theme of the day. The fans really got into it and the full team offense vs. the full team defense on both sides was the best drill ever. The players kicked it up a notch from normal camp drills, and the 2 minute work was intense.

This was such a great idea, I hope they do it again. It’s great for the rookies too, to get that welcome-to-the-NFL feel before the first preseason game Thursday night.

Drew Brees was the class act as always, signing autographs for the crowd. Not just for Saints fans either, as my daughter scored one to add to her collection. We talked to a couple of Saints fans too in between sessions. Great folks, still excited about the SB win and for the season to start.

I wish I could attend tomorrow’s, but can’t swing it. A success all around.

Keep the faith!

No beer sold there

but I certainly witnessed a bit of blatant tailgating in the parking lot.

By the way, it was so muggy and hot up here, I can’t imagine doing this in the Louisiana heat – where do the Saints hold their camp, indoors or out?

Out

Sometimes they move it inside when the heat index is really high. The other day in Metairie, it was 117 degrees. Our guys remarked all day how it was great practicing in Foxboro because it wasn’t nearly as hot as what they’re accustomed to.

every cloud that went by seemed to drop the temperature 15 degrees

unfortunately there weren’t enough clouds until late afternoon, lol. At least the thunderstorms that were forecast held off.

I’ve been to around 8 camps and this morning was the hottest. This hasn’t been as bad as other years though. You just gotta know that you’re gonna melt ahead of time, bring something cold to drink and it’s easier to take that way.

Keep the faith!
