Fleur-de-Links: What Will Saints See Today When They Review Last Night's Game Film?
In a word: sloppiness. That's the general consensus not only from those who observed the Saints' 24-27 loss to the Patriots but also from those who coached it:
"I thought just watching the game and without having looked at the tape that there were too many sloppy things that we need to get corrected," Payton said. "I know it is the first week of preseason, yet there are still a number of things that are disturbing."
If you're worried about our TWO DAT chances after last night, take a moment to read Brian Alee-Walsh's reasons why you shouldn't worry. Also remember that our Saints looked pretty bad last year in their preseason opener against the Bengals. If you don't remember, check out this CSC Fanpost from a year ago. Many were panicked over our inability to run the ball against Cincinnati. Turns out those fears were premature.
In other news, Thomas Morstead says he'll be fine but we're awaiting the results of today's MRI to be sure. More after the jump.

Nice post satch!

You know, playing that bad in this preseason game might actually be the best thing for them right now.
This humbles the team, and makes them take a hard look in the mirror.
I would have liked Drew to have had a better day, but he did go 9/13 (69%) in completions. 69% is not all that bad in the first preseason game. I really hope this lights a fire under GW A__!.
I wonder if our defense’s constant attempts to strip the ball is negatively affecting their ability to follow up on tackles.
Lets wait until the 3rd Preseason game to draw some conclusions. I kinda hope the defense and special teams gets hammered next game as well. That way hopefully a light will come on in some of the coaches/players head.
You learn more from mistakes than anything else.

I'm assuming from Porter's tweet...
that GW raked their asses over the coals today in that film room. I’m sure hell was unleashed not only by him but by SP as well. I remember McCray saying last year that they get yelled at when they play poorly and when they play well. He never lets up.
As for special teams, most of the guys who were out there won’t even be on the team when final cuts are made. It’ll get better.

“This humbles the team, and makes them take a hard look in the mirror.”
Yep yep.. Just like the losses at the end of last season made them realize they weren’t ‘perfect’ and needed to keep working hard… that and all the injuries. ;-)

Thats twice today that we used hindsight DK.

….I’m thinking we’re short about 19-20 Lombardi Trophies myself, so that’s like what, 1/20th full or 19/20th’s empty?

I had that feeling after the first loss… that, even though I was EXTREMELY ticked about it, it could be a good thing for them to remind them to work hard. :-)

More McGahee to Saints trade rumors/speculation
According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, “there is some potential” for the Ravens to trade Willis McGahee before the season.
La Canfora mentions New Orleans as a possible landing spot. The Saints are perhaps the league’s deepest team at cornerback, and the Ravens are the shallowest. A trade seems unlikely at this time, but it’s interesting to note that both McGahee and Le’Ron McClain played extensively in Thursday’s preseason opener. It’s possible (though far from certain) that McGahee was being showcased en route to 37 yards on five touches while the Ravens were seeing what McClain has as a potential No. 2 back on his four carries.
Would he have a character that fits in with our team? Which CB would they/could they trade for him? Certainly not Porter, Greer, or Robinson. Would they take Gay in a trade?

Maybe Gay and a draft pick?
Hopefully no more than a conditional 3rd round (up to 2nd if he get’s like 800 yards or something). I think a bruising back like MaGahee would be great for our short yardage situations.
I don’t recall any character issues with McGahee, am I forgetting?
Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die!

I don’t recall any character issues either.
Those trade options seems reasonable to me, but I’m not sure the Ravens would go for it…. but I’d love it if they do.
We could give them Gay and all the draft picks we’ll get for Jammal Brown. :-)

6'0" 235 - good size
28 years old and big knee injury at end of college
3-time 1000-yard rusher
I wouldn’t want to give up too much for him (Wil-Mis-Pay are probably not gonna sink us with another Steve Walsh trade), so we’ll see…
Sean Payton and the players need to focus on the upcoming season and defending the title but I don’t.

He's only got 2-3 more years max
as far as see. I wouldn’t give up much more than gay and a 4/5 rounder.
