Brett Favre 3rd Annual Retirement Tour

On the occasion of the estimable Mr. Favre's triumphant return to professional football, and the beginning of Minnesota's long winter of discontent, let us remember some of the greatest moments of his previous tours--beginning with the greatest of them all.

BrettFavrian Rhapsody

An oratorio in four parts, based on events taking place on the floor of the Superdome on or about the evening of Sunday, 24th January, in the year 2010.

Music: Farrokh Bulsara     Lyrics: MtnExileToo & MtnExile

The parts: Brett Favre, a Vikings quarterback; Ole, a Vikings fan; Vikings chorus, Saints chorus

Star-divide

Ole

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Thought by a landslide that we'd capture the NFC.
Blitzes galore, look up to the score and see...

Brett Favre
Ole

I need a po-boy (Po-boy), I need some sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go, come what may, gonna throw
Anyone but Brett Favre doesn't really matter to me...
To me.

Brett Favre

Ole, just killed your dream
Should have run it, but instead, Interception! Now it's dead.
Ole, we had almost won,
But now I've gone and thrown the ball away!
Ole, oo-oo-oo-oooh...
Didn't mean to make you cry!
If I'm not back again this time next season,
Carry on, carry on, like Tarvaris really matters...

Too late, my line has gone,
The black and gold surround, Here I sit, pants on the ground.
I know, everybody: we'll run the ball!
So we call an end-around...and there's McCray!
Ole, oo-oo-oo-oooh (Anyone but Brett Favre...)
I don't wanna die! I sometimes wish I'd never come back at all!

[Bobby McCray solo]

Brett Favre
Vikings Chorus
Saints Chorus

I see a giant silhouetto of a man,
Hutchinson, Hutchinson, will you keep these guys off me?
Fujita and Shanle! Where the hell's Visanthe? Flee!
(Sedrick Ellis!) Sedrick Ellis! (Sedrick Ellis!) Sedrick Ellis! Sedrick Ellis! Gotta go!
Geronimo-o-o-o-o!
I need a po-boy, no one protects me.
He needs protection, we want a penalty!
Spare him his life from this brutality!

Easy come, easy go, should I make the throw?
Good God Brett! No! We will not let you throw! (Let him throw!)
Good God Brett! We will not let you throw! (Let him throw!)
Good God Brett! We will not let you throw! (Let me throw!)
Will not let you throw! (Let me throw!)
Will not let you throw! (Let me throw!)
(Never never never let you throw!) Ah-ah-ah-ah!
(No, no, no, no, no, no, no!)
Oh Tracy Porter! Tracy Porter! Tracy Porter, let it go!
GW dialed up the Cover-2 on me, on me, on me!

Ole

So you think you can plunder what should have been mine?
So you think you can party and leave me to whine? [Editor's note: for eight solid months and counting]
Oh, baby! I'm a big crying baby!

Why didn't he take, why didn't he just take a knee?

[Garrett Hartley solo]

Ole

Brett Favre really matters, Anyone can see
Brett Favre really matters
Brett Favre really matters
To me...

Saints Chorus

(See you in Sep-tem-berrrrrrr...)

I thought that was a picture of Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap

and then I read the intro to the story

Sean Payton and the players need to focus on the upcoming season and defending the title but I don’t.

Fantastic

I only got through the first few lines and was scrolling down to rec. Snorted out loud on that one.

A+ for creativity.

Wow, you woulda been depressed if he

hadn’t come back after all this work! But little chance of that.

by GlackAndBold on Aug 18, 2010 3:37 PM CDT reply actions

Actually

my wife and I came up with this the same night of the NFC championship. I had it ready to go the next day, but by then pity had set in, so I didn’t post it. Even after all the whining by the Vikings fans, I held back.

But now that the nonsense has started back up, I figure the world needs alternate voices.

It was worth the wait.

Mega-BOOM!

I’m happy to give you the 7th rec! I’m sure that pic is real and not Photoshopped, right?

Anybody catch this bit from Favre's press conference?
I can promise you this, not that I had ever set out as a goal to play 20 years, but 20 years and I’m done. This is the last year of my contract

He’s already retired for 2011! Man, he is really getting a jump on things this year. Maybe he’ll be out of retirement by mid-July next year.

“This is the last year of my contract.”

That’s his out… so he can play again.

At the start of 2011, his new quote will be:

“I was just saying that my contract is over, and I don’t know what the future holds… but, yeah, I just signed a one year deal with the Cardinals. They said they wanted me to clean up the mess that Matt Leinart left.”

Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.

4 Plays, I'm ready

One missed tackle first down, four plays total, one sack. Ankle looked padded, the old man looked susceptible to the pass rush. Ahh, Viking fans, be careful what you wish for… Alex Smith a lot more productive than fossil-guy.

True. Wouldn’t be all that surprised to see Jackson opening night, either starting or coming in after they carry the old fart off the field. Still think Farve might dodge the Saints, despite all his talk about wanting another shot at them. I mean, there are people you can take at their word, and then there’s Brett.

He can't do that.

Everyone in the Vikings organisation expects him to be on the field Sept. 9, so he will. I don’t think he would have comeback otherwise. Will he find a quick way out after a big hit? That may very well happen.

Repeat? Under construction...

by FrenchFreak on Aug 22, 2010 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions

He has that streak he has been nursing with pain killers and what not. he will be on the field on the 9th

by Saintsfan75 on Aug 23, 2010 12:49 AM CDT reply actions

nice song

And you are correct the way we’re playing now I don’t see the Vikes offering much challenge to you all on the 9th…

Man our offensive line couldn’t pass block Brownie troop #5.

Terrible.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
