State of the Saints - Special Teams
On to that massively important part of the game that no one ever thinks about on draft day, but coaches and GM's alike will tell you "this is where football games are won or loss!" On to the special teams. Garrett Hartley has turned out to be a weapon. I didn't think so at first. My first thought when the Saints originally signed him was "Garrett who?" Well, the foot that kicked the Saints into the Superbowl is a legit kicker and may be regarded as one of the elite (if he can stay away from the banned supplements) if he can come up with a supberb performance like last year's clinch playoff kicking. I never have given much love to the punters, but Thomas Morstead once one of the best last year. I love the fact that both of these guys are only 24 years old. That means they could stick around for quite a while.
The returners are to be feared. Courtney Roby makes sure that he has a chance at the permanent roster by being a return ace. Lance Moore is a guy who can get back there and do it in a pinch and we are starting to see a little Tracy Porter back there as well (not sure what I think about that). But when you need a big return, you know that we may see a lil "Reggie, Reggie" Reggie Bush back there to blow the roof off of the dome. Reggie has proven that he is one of the dynamic returners in the game and can break one at any given moment.
When it comes to return coverage, I have some questions. I know it's only preseason, but return coverage looks sloppy and frankly I wasn't a fan of this group last year either. Saints need some shoring up here and quick if we expect to see the Black and Gold in Dallas (which I sincerely hope to see, because anything to upset Mr. Jerry Jones is not a bad thing in my book)!

Patrick Robinson
I only watched him as a blocker on the punt that Reggie was slated to return, but he jammed the gunner BAD and had his guy 20-30 yards up-field compared to the other gunner.
Our Coverage Guys
SUCK…..There is no other way to put it. They plain suck. My hope is that they are just trying to give some guys a chance to make the team and they are not getting the job done. Otherwise I hope Porter and Vilma can cover kicks.
