Chris Gates has Sour Grapes
After moseying over to the DN and reading the lead story on the site i figured i would pass it along. Maybe with the immediate possibility of becoming a father for the second time has mellowed me a bit, but I won't take the bait that Gates is dangling.
As a result, this is actually more a tribute to Dave. I have to say that your efforts and seemingly unbiased attitude and nature in running this site is appreciated more than you can imagine. You are a source of information but don't resort to inflammatory comments made to stir up discussions. Don't get me wrong, I am all for being passionate about one's team, however as the "voice" and representative of a site I think one needs to hold themselves to a higher standard than others.
So I would just like to say thanks for staying classy Dave. Hopefully knuckleheads like myself don't tarnish CSC's reputation to much. Keep up the good work.

With any luck, Mr. Gates will have something new to whine about in about 9 days.

Thanks for the kind words, Grumps
Though I’ve got to admit, I would probably take a shot at Sharper myself if he doesn’t take the field against the VIkings, after all the talk he did.

But in a nice way no doubt.
Besides it is a player on YOUR team. Not many people from other sites would be offended or irritated if you called out a player on your own team.

There might be 5 decent human being on the DN
Come on Zygi, just move the darn franchise to L.A. and officially take away Chris Gates’ last reason for getting up in the morning.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
Come on....
…. that’s not true.
I hate the damn Vikings and I was pulling hard for the Saints in the NFCCG, but the DN is full of decent people. I’m a Packer fan and I’m there all the time. They don’t even really flame me anymore. We just talk football. Gates has been pissed off for almost a year. I’m not sure what his deal is, but the tone of his writing genuinely changed after the NFCCG. I still go there, and I still like his writing, but it’s way angrier, and sporadically bitter.
I’m not going to blame you for getting hacked off about the ongoing complaints regarding the NFCCG, or even Gates’ article today, but don’t paint everyone at the DN with the same brush.
Besides, Sharper, while be a good player, is a loud mouthed d-bag. You know it, I know it, and the American people know it. It was true when he was in GB, it was true when he was in MN, and it’s true now that he’s in NO. Heck, lots of folks here were/are saying he should shut the hell up when he broke out that x marks the spot line. If a guy’s going to act like an a-hole, you can’t get upset when people call him an a-hole, even if he’s your guy.

Who let the Packers Fan onto our Site. Troll!
Ha! Just messing with you TSSC.
I have to agree that there are some decent people over at the DN. I will also support the comment about if Sharper runs his mouth he gets whats coming. For the record. I do love me some Sharper but the whole Shank-Sharper thing was useless.
Side note/question: You have to be pretty pumped up about your teams chances for making a very deep playoff run. Finley is a beast. What are your main areas of concern?
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
My areas of concern are...
… defensive line depth (we’re 4 deep; our #5 is a guy who has yet to play more than 3 games in a year since being drafted, our 6 and 7 are late round kids). CB’s # 2-5. Woodson’s a stud, but Harris is on the PUP now. Williams has struggled since moving into the #2 spot last November. Right now our nickel back is an undrafted free agent from the U, Sam Shields. Good instincts and athleticism, speed, but not polished at all. Only been a CB for about 18 months. He’s got the job currently because the alternatives, Lee, Underwood, Bush et al are a)terrible (Bush); b) injured (Underwood); or c) confused (Lee).
The OL is better than last year, and deep. Stacked at WR and TE. There’s nobody capable of having an every down impact behind Grant, but Jackson will be an ok change of pace guy. We’re still looking for a return game.
I’d still give the nod to the Vikings going into the season but I’m hopeful the Packers will be the better team by December. I’m hoping Thompson addresses the DL, CB or RB situation via trade, but he probably won’t. His obsession with developing his draftees gets to be counter-productive at times, like on the OL last season, and he’ll probably make that mistake again this year at DL and CB, and I think they’ll convince themselves that one of their FB’s can play HB so they can keep 3 on the roster.

Interesting. Not to get into things too much, & on the wrong board, but I actually see the Vikings starting slow out of the gate, going maybe 3-3 culminating with a loss at Lambeau on 10/24, giving the Packers a healthy lead in the division. But hopefully that’s the high water mark for that lead & the Vikings make up ground over time. That’s just the way the two schedules look to me side-by-side: Vikings are front loaded with their most difficult games & Packers are more back-loaded with them, and the first game of the series played at Lambeau.
I think they’ll convince themselves that one of their FB’s can play HB so they can keep 3 on the rosterHope not. You may have seen that I’m advocating that the Vikings pick up one of them if you do cut (I’m assuming either Johnson or Kuhn — Johnson’s seems like a good fit for the run game in partiuclar).
They've got some interesting cut decisions to make...
… and their unbalanced roster at TE and FB are screaming for a cutdown trade or two. But they’ll keep at least 6 TE/FB types, maybe 7.

Maybe.
But I thought he was an ass when he wore a Packers jersey too. I saw him try to return one too many end-of-half-hail-mary-int’s (which he should have just knocked down) for touchdowns when the Packers had a lead (once spraining his knee in the process) to think he had good judgment. Confident? Yes. Pro-bowler? Often. Asshat? Absolutely.

It’s gratifying to see that so far Gates’ hook has remained empty. On the other hand, Vasilii’s comment already has 6 rec’s:
Perhaps if you prefer people not to talk like that
You shouldn’t troll them on the frontpage.

Be fair
That didn’t originate from DN, it was from some email someone got. That was actually posted by Gonzo before he got bitter, in an article that castigated that kind of insensitivity. He denounced it, not endorsed it.
Things right now area different matter, but don’t go drag that one out and act like it came from DN.
+1
on Dave’s classiness. It’s well run here: not only is the job done efficiently, it’s done the right way.
Devery Henderson, making absurd grabs for my teams since 2001.
Those guys need to get a sense of humor.
I mean they are so worked up what Darren Sharper said. I mean its called trash talking. Is it necessary, probably not, but it can be entertaining. I’m sure no one on their team has ever said something worst than ‘X marks the spot’.
I forget the Vikings are the class act of the NFL. They know exactly when to pull up on a hit. They never would twist an ankle of a player after a tackle. They would never drive a quaterback with their shoulder into a ground. They never do anything wrong. They didn’t get one unsportsmanlike penatly all year. They never hit a defenseless player. They are by far the classiest group of NFL players in the history of the Game. They never trash talk. Their fans never make classless comments about other people’s fan base and city. They are men armong boys. They never have a PI call or a holding call. Please!
Look, I might be blind, because I love my Saints. If our defensive players play tough within the rules of the game thats fine. If they hit a QB a little bit too hard that is fine. It is full contact football after all. If they happen to hit the QB a little late and get away with it I’m ok with that too, because every freaking team gets away with late hits once in awhile. Blame the refs if they don’t call it.
Well said
That’s why I joined DN in the first place—I got tired of their whining about how we “purposely had tried to hurt Bret.” I asked for someone to give me a link, quote, or anything from any Saint admitting they had purposely tried to hurt him. Even though I told them we all were familiar with the “X marks the spot” junk, “remember me” shots, “getting in the qb’s head,” etc, etc guess what I got. Yep, all that same stuff. Even when I tried to further clarify my request, they continued to insist that we had said we wanted to hurt him. After a couple of days of back and forths, I just gave up! There is no hope for most of them and not a single one got the gist of my point which was:
IT’S FOOTBALL! Isn’t it supposed to be the job of the Defense to get to the opposing QB? Why weren’t they mad with their Offensive Line for not protecting Bret instead of crying about our Defensive success?? Meh…they aren’t worth the effort…

Well for starters, the head of NFL officiating has already stated you guys weren’t called for all the ones you should have been.
Don't you think there are some calls as Saints Fans we think the
officials didn’t call correctly, but we don’t harp on them because we won the game. The officials are going to miss some calls. Its always easy after the game to say, hey they missed a call here and there. I mean the game is happening in real time. You don’t have to look back too far to see how many calls were missed when we played you all the year before. The blatant face mask that caused Reggie to fumble was missed. The fumble by Peterson in the game that wasn’t called. It happens. I was pissed off by it, but not enough to spend six to seven months talking about it. The only reason I remember it because I never liked the vikings with whole Daunte Culpepper qb situation. That guy got on my nerves so much when he did his little hand roll dance after a touchdown.
I have seen calls against the Saint when there was obvious evidence video to overturn the calls on a booth review. Again blame the refs and not the Saints for the bad officiating.

I got banned today....
Gates banned me I don’t care I am tired of the Vikings fans crying…even the coach is a cry baby. They are creating an atmosphere where it is ok to be a sore loser. I have tried to respect the Vikings fans, I even made a bad joke that I repeatedly apologized for, but to me the spirit of fun and comrodarie for all those who love football is just not there. I love my saints but I would not be still talking about illegal hits and being the best team who lost.
In my opinion viking fans are doing more harm than good by still crying foul…bad calls happen every year.
Remember the Ed Hoculi call. Or how about the Brady fumble in the superbowl against the Raiders??? Teams lose close games every year. Get over it. Gates says we want our a** kissed by them but I could care less it’s their obsession with being so-called cheated out of the NFCCG it is the funniest thing in the NFL. The only a** the Vikings kiss is Farve and I have nothing against Farve but isn’t he the guy who really lost the game in regulation?
I believe the Vikings fans are doing a great disservice to their team by continue to foster an attitude of being the victim. It’s sad. It’s pitiful. It’s not Football. The truth is if the saints lose the opener so what? It will be a small consolation prize it will not feel like we felt after the superbowl.

You're right Puddnhead
There has been alot mixed emotions between the 2 parties involved. I used to throw in hateful posts in past months but I have mellowed out alot. I was involved in hateful conversations and it was not doing one bit of good.
About a month ago me another member got into an extremely heated argument that was nearly a full page long. I reacted hatefully and threw up a “bad joke” youtube video that started the flame. I mean it was some ugly. Then after a while of pure exhaustion, we apologized to each and to the DN for the excessive foul language. Today we speak on great terms wishing each other well this season.
Something happened to me that night that changed my way of thinking. Realizing I can’t change how other’s feel or act.
Even though we were both in the wrong, in a crazy way I initiated it by reacting ugly to someone’s comment.

Well this says it all....I offically hate gates and DN....
Well I dont hate them but here are some quotes from Gates today…..
." I’m tired of hearing about how they "overcame Katrina" and blah blah blah. You want to see a bunch of people that really overcame Katrina? Go up I-10 or Hwy 90 towards Mississippi. There you’ll see what a triumph of will and human spirit looks like. . .they just didn’t whine quite as loudly as New Orleans did. (They also had actual, competent leadership in place, but that’s another debate for another forum.)"
“I can’t stand the New Orleans Saints. I can’t stand the city of New Orleans. I can’t stand the state of Louisiana. And if that makes me a bad person. . .well, then, I’m a bad person. And I could care less.”

“it is the media’s fault not saints fans.”
That’s the big point more people need to realize.
He hates NOLA and the Saints for the same reason many CSC’er Saints fans people who watch sports television hate Brett Favre.
Favre doesn’t ask the media to camp outside his house, waiting for a glimpse of god. (I’m not defending ANYthing BF does, but we need to place most of the blame for “Favre Watch” on the media.)
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
Not that I want to get into a whole discussion about Favre but...
He could just tell everybody he’s playing and just not show up to camp. The Viking’s don’t have to fine people for not showing up, and since everyone knows that it is Favre, it would save everybody a lot of headaches, and there wouldn’t be this whole media circus revolving around him. I’m pretty sure there is at least part of him that realizes this, and just doesn’t do anything about it because he likes the attention.
So yes, the media could back off, but Favre does have a little bit of control over it.
"Here's the funny thing. Last night, I couldn't sleep too well. I called my dad (Bill) at 2:15 in the morning, and told him I had a feeling I was going to hit the game-winner from 42 yards on the right hash. I think I was two yards off."- Garrett Hartley
Agreed. Except I think he has more than a little bit of control over it.
The media are certainly willing participants but Favre has been manipulating them for years. The Vikings have provided him the platform to take it to another level.
The man loves being the center of attention. That’s really all there is to it.
That’s why I said he had SOME of a point. They did do a better job rebuilding faster and with less public whining and complaining. But they also had at least a bit less damage to deal with as well. (And they had less corruption in the past to cause problems such as critical support structures and equipment to be weaker or missing.)
I don't like Favre and I wish he would just go away,
but I don’t remember him ever complaining about the hits he took during the game. He got up like a football player and went on with his business. I don’t remember any of his offensive line players getting upset during the game. If the Saints were playing dirty, don’t you think their offensive line would have come to Favre’s defense, ala Kyle Turley. What about the Vikings Defense, they didn’t seem to have any more fire in them during the game when Brett Favre is taking all these questionable calls. The only reason this is still brought up is because the game didn’t turn out in the favor the vikings fans. Its not the Saints fault that they didn’t bow down and let Favre get his glory. They played a tough game and it happened my saint’s won. I know the feeling of coming out the wrong side of a game, but guess what I get over it. Yeah the other team might had some questionable calls that caused them to win, but you know what that happens in almost all football games. You know what I do, I get over it, because football in the whole scheme of things is a small thing in my life. I get upset for a little bit and move on.
Darren Sharper says ‘X marks the spot’ and guess who didn’t respond to this nonsense Brett Favre. It was the tightend who thought he needed to respond in a tweeting pissing match. Guess who had a talk with Sharper to stop the nonsense our coach, so we have a classless organization. I don’t understand when people get so upset about when coaches start talking about hitting hard or giving them remember me shots. Do you really think the coach’s mean wink wink “When you have a real chance to hurt some one do it by ripping their head off and throwing it in the crowd”. These players have friends across teams with free agency and everything. I have real doubts that there are many players out there that would intentionally hurt some one.
Well, something happened over there
The Flame post he started yesterday has been deleted. I guess too many fans from other sites were getting involved. Plenty of fans of other teams were calling him out.
My favorite part of yesterdays post was when Mr. Gates admitted that he can’t play Madden 11 without getting physically ill because Drew Brees is in it. Epic fail. I am starting to sort of feel sorry for him………..NAH!
I want to find the route he drives to work everyday and put up billboards with Darren Sharper on them. Call in to his favorite radio station and request any song with “Saint” in the lyrics. He is about to crack, we have em right where we want em boys. Go get em.

To Funny
His response to someone asking the question as to why it was deleted was:
Other post = into the ether, largely because it had outlived its usefulness.
I am sorry i missed the later posts, apparently fans of both teams were questioning the intent of his article.
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell

Agreed!
If there is one thing that we can all seemingly agree on, its the fact that:
Cheerleaders = Fantastic.

Thinking about it more, it’s probably for the best. As long as everyone moves on & looks forward to the game, and doesn’t look back. Might have been hard to do with that thread still around, and still growing.
And don’t delude yourself that there weren’t CSC visitors behaving badly in that thread too.
Oh i have no doubt.
I think i made one comment congratulating Vasilii on a good post and question. His comment is what prompted me to post this thread in the first place.
Regardless i just can’t wait for first game of the season. Installed my second TV in the “man cave” yesterday. Going to love having the Sunday Ticket on two sets. So many games, so little time.

Interesting that the post was deleted this morning...
At least I had the chance to respond to his comment to someone (possibly you Dr WD) that they had been banned because they had the nerve to question “how I run my site.” I reminded him that it was the SB Nation’s site, and he would do well to remember that fact. Shortly thereafter the post is now deleted. Hmmm

He must have gotten punked out
the lead post over there, after noting there will be no drop-off from Chris Cook to Lito Sheppard, ends with:
And that’s pretty much all for today. . .thank you once again for patronizing one of the best sites that SBNation has to offer. Because that’s exactly what this site is. . .anyone that says otherwise is lying to you. . .and, as fans of the best team in the National Football League, that’s what you deserve. We’ll see you back here tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen!

ahh, ok, there we go. Their site is just having difficulties as usual. THought i was banned because i kept trying to write a post but nothing would happen. Finally worked.
their site has a lot of advertisers
seems like it takes the longest to load of any SBN site.

you can go down to the comments section…
if you see the “POST A REPLY” box, you’re not banned.
if you don’t see the box, you’re either banned, not a member, or not logged in.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
DANG IT!! The "z" button is broken.... I can't get to my next unread comments.
And I can’t post a comment either….

Wow, how did I get by without knowing the z key trick?
Dan has taught me another thing.

It's extremely helpful during a game open thread...
It's gonna be a great year.
