Ladell Betts visiting Saints - How about bringing a LBer too???
I heard today that Ladell Betts was scheduled to visit the Saints. I immediately thought either the Pierre Thomas injury got somone nervous, Lynell Hamilton it not giving as good as expected or Loomis wants to take a guy off the market knowing that this is a position that all teams will be insuring that they have depth. Then I got to thinking what about Linebacker??? I fully believe giving the youngsters a shot, but have a veteran waiting on deck. Morlon Greenwood and Marcus Washington are still available. I recently heard that older guys like Derrick Brooks, Donnie Edwards and Junior Seau still want to play and they just may have something left in the tank (OK so maybe Junior's only got like 1/10th of a tank left), but I have got to believe that going with 2 veterans and a barrel of unproven kids is not the way to go. Nor do I think the d-line is stong enough to compensate for a failure at the LB position. I do believe that from a coverage standpoint in the secondary that the Saints match up better than 80% of the teams in the NFL, but holes at the LB can be exploited by just above average O-Coordinators and if they have a playmaker at QB like say Brett Favre, Tony Romo, Matt Ryan, Ben Roethlisberger or Carson Palmer (which all just happen to be on the schedule the year) watch out!
In short, "Can I get a LB'er in camp please?"

I’ll take a developing Dunbar, Casillas and Arnoux over every LB guy you mentioned. Let the young guys show what they can do.

We already brought in a slightly veteren LB in Ingram
When hearlthy he’s an example of the veteran guy your asking for.
I was all for going after Derrick Brooks last year, but now that he’s spent a year away from football it just just doesn’t seem like a smart move.
But now we have our LB of the future in Stanley “The Manly” Arnoux.
"I want to hand this trophy to the MVP of the Super Bowl -- and the MVP of the entire league.''
-- Saints coach Sean Payton, handing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Drew Brees after Super Bowl 44.
UPDATE ----Aaron Schobel has been released by the Bills!
Arnoux is completely unproven and an injury risk already….The Saints need to make a play for a veteran LB. Ingram is nice, but he’s no Fujita! Remember the Saints have been trying to replace Shanle for a couple of years and now he’s a foregone conclusion as a starter. This is not an improvement! Go get a veteran. I like Shanle off the bench.
Schobel is a DE in the 4-3 system, an OLB in the 3-4. He wouldn’t really fit in this system.
"Here's the funny thing. Last night, I couldn't sleep too well. I called my dad (Bill) at 2:15 in the morning, and told him I had a feeling I was going to hit the game-winner from 42 yards on the right hash. I think I was two yards off."- Garrett Hartley
Guy played 9 years at a tremendous level for the Buffalo Bills. Wanted out after that time to spend your final few years in the league with a competitor isn’t quit…hell it should be commended he lasted that long.
easy on the hyperbole, you speak as if he has been a prisoner of war
Guy played 9 years at a tremendous level for the Buffalo Bills.
And yet his team’s fans are divided. 52% think he does not belong on the Bills’ Wall of Fame. He’s not fulfilling his contract with the club. He essentially forced them to release him so he can go home to Texas and took his guaranteed money with him. Does this look like a “tremendous” player to you?

Oh friend of mine,
Don't be denied.
I'm confused
Was Rickey Jackson a tremendous player or a selfish quitter?

Yep looks like a tremendous player to me. See i base “tremendous player” based on what he did on the field. Not whether or not annoyed fans want him on their wall of fame.
HOF? You’ve gotta be kidding me. The guy’s been to the Pro Bowl TWICE in nine years. Double digit sacks just three times. Pat Swilling would be considered a shoo-in over Schobel, and I honestly don’t think Swilling will be getting in any time within the next decade, if at all.

I think the Saints would have went after Brooks last year
If they were truely looking to replace Shanle.
