Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

Week 1, How did the preseason MSM darlings do?

OK, lets go over how all the teams the main stream media focused on without giving the Saints much chance.

Vikings-lost, to our Saints 14-9

Falcons-lost, in OT to the Steelers 15-9

Cowgirls-lost (barely) to the Redskins 13-7

Packers-won, 27-20 over the Eagles (would the result have been different with Michael Vick in from the start?)

Jets-lost, to the Ravens 10-9

Colts-lost, to the Texans 34-24

Chargers-lost, to Kansas City?!?! 21-14

49ers-creamed 31-6, by the Seahawks?!?!

The Patriots won also, but I don't recall a lot of press about them. Have I left anyone out?

Correct answer to the poll is “Yes, but we don’t mind because we’re doing the same thing.”

I guess I saw some different MSM coverage because I saw a lot of people picking the Saints.

Sure, they love Favre like always and make excuse after excuse for him, but I definitely saw people picking the Saints to win on Thursday. I am thinking of NFL Live I think, for reference.

The Jets seem a popular playoff choice, but then so do the Ravens, so that one is almost a push isn’t it? I think the media loves the Jets soundbites more than loving them to actually make the Superbowl anyway.

For this particular week? Yeah. But I think he’s talking about all the “favorites” to make the Super Bowl. Of which the only teams that actually won were the Packers and Ravens. Neither of which looked particularly great in the process.

The Saints are among the top 3 teams in numerous Super Bowl odds lists that I’ve seen. It doesn’t appear that they’re being slighted in the least.

Apparently, if the Saints aren’t number one in absolutely everything, we’re being slighted.

Odds list != MSM darling list

The odds are for vegas and people who bet on games.

The MSM doesn’t follow the odds. I’m not saying we’re being slighted much anymore. We’re still be underrated by many, but others at least remember that we exist and we’re pretty good.

Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.

I totally agree with CP.

It seems some of us have become so accustomed to being slighted by the MSM, we’ve grown addicted to it. There is never going to be unanimous agreement about the Saints or any other team.

Both ESPN and Sports Illustrated have us ranked #1 in their power rankings as do most other sports outlets. From what I heard, the MSM predictions for the Vikings games was about 75-80% in favor of a Saints victory. Even the “swami” picked them (which actually had me a little concerned).

It’s no secret that Green Bay is the “trendy” pick to win the Super Bowl but it’s nothing more than a guess. Most sports writers or commentators always mention the difficulty involved for any team to repeat (which is an accurate observation), but I’ve not heard too many of them say the Saints don’t have a legitimate shot at it even when they’re picking someone else.

The Saints won the Super Bowl. We don’t need a consensus agreement by the MSM to know they are the best team in the NFL until some other team proves otherwise. Let’s get used to it and enjoy it while it lasts.

And let’s leave the whining about the MSM not liking our team and not getting the respect we deserve to Christopher Gates.

Thanks for putting it in perspective for me, lol.

There’s a difference between whining about not getting something and laughing at the stupidity of others when they are proven wrong.

Hey I will feel like the Saints are not being slighted when I see more than a Reggie Bush, Drew Brees, or Archie Manning jersey at the sports stores here on the west coast.

If that’s the case, the Patriots seem to be slighted even moreso. All I ever see are Brady and Moss jerseys here in the Gulf South.
