NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (1-0) at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (0-1) (Monday, ESPN, 8:30 PM ET)
The Super Bowl XLIV champion New Orleans Saints began their title defense with a 14-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Kickoff Weekend. The game was a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game and featured the top two scoring teams in 2009.
"We're not used to 14-9 victories, but we're used to winning," says Saints quarterback DREW BREES, who threw for 237 yards and one touchdown. "We like the ‘W.'"
With the victory by New Orleans, the defending Super Bowl champion has now won its past 11 season-opening games.
The Saints will travel to San Francisco for a showdown on Monday night against the 49ers.
Both quarterbacks have experienced success on Monday nights. Brees has won three Monday Night Football starts in a row, passing for 11 touchdowns and one interception for a 151.5 passer rating in those three games. San Francisco's ALEX SMITH is 2-0 in his career as a starter at home on Monday nights.
The 49ers will look to rebound after opening the season in Seattle with a loss.
"We can look at the Seattle game for what it is and learn from it, put it behind us and get on with New Orleans," says San Francisco head coach MIKE SINGLETARY. "I feel we're going to be a very good football team."

Definetly not a game to overlook
The 49s are good enough to upset us if we look past them. I don’t thing we will but it will be a tight game, especially after their embarassment against the seahawks.
Bear
This is a game that we should win
… on paper. However, I’ve been a Saints fan long enough to know that no matter how poorly the 49ers play other teams, they seem to get fired up for our Saints and make a game out of it. I hope for mistake free football and a lopsided victory….. but I’ll take a win by any means.
Should be a good game. Well, for the Saints. LOL
Niners coming off an azz whipping looking to prove they are worthy of all the pre-season hype. Saints looking to show their SB win was no fluke and the low scoring Vikes game and less than stellar offensive play, WAS a fluke. Saints will go in to San Fran and kick their azzes. IMO LOL

the defending Super Bowl champion has now won its past 11 season-opening games.
Is that stat just for home openers because I remember losing to colts on opening day in 2007.
I see the error of my ways
The sentence was for Super Bowl champions not the Saints. How do I delete a comment.
You don't. Just pray that it gets buried in all the
Defense of Reggie getting paid to play in college, but he done nothing wrong posts.
you know, when you want something, and nobody can stop you from taking it, you just take it, right? I like that, but can you take it?
I never said he did nothing wrong
I said I really see no reason I should give a damn. Big difference.

I appreciate all the hard work that goes into these posts.
Keeping up with all these stats each week is tough.
You’ll get a rec from me. Great job Dave. Keep it up.
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
Hold off on your accolades...
the NFL puts this together. I just cut and paste. Probably the easiest post I do all week. But I appreciate it.

I tried everything...
but I just can’t afford the money to go to this game. I’ve never had the opportunity to see the Saints play away from the Dome and I was hoping this would be my chance, but I’ll be watching the TV with the rest of the CSC and Whodat Nation.
I’m expecting a win. I don’t think the ’Niners have the talent to stay with us for 60 minutes. It may be close through a half, but the Saints should pull away and win comfortably.
