Who makes the team?
The fourth and final preseason game has just wrapped up, and there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Is Casillas the answer at OLB? Who is our #2 QB? What do we do with Adrian Arrington?
Final cuts are Saturday, where the roster gets trimmed down to the final 53-man roster. It seems like every year there is a surprise cut or two. A few years ago, it was Joe Horn. Last year, it was Deuce. This year, maybe it's Darren Sharper. Who knows?
A few of the main questions that need to be answered after the jump
- Who is our #2 QB? Has Chase Daniel done enough to beat out Patrick Ramsey, or does Ramsey's experience trump all?
- Is Jonathan Casillas the answer at OLB? He won the job in the first preseason game, but has shown little since. How will he play over a 16 game schedule?
- What will we do with Darren Sharper? If he stays on the PUP list, he's out for the first 6 weeks. If we cut him outright, we can re-sign him when he gets healthy enough to play. Problem is, so can 31 other teams.
- How many WRs make the team? Colston, Henderson, Moore, and Meachem are a lock. Roby most likely is also a lock because of his outstanding special teams play. Does Adrian Arrington make the roster as a 6th receiver. He's certainly good enough on offense, but he really doesn't contribute on special teams.
One last thing to remember........next week, IT'S FOR REAL!!!!!

Chase Daniel
I believe will make the 2nd QB postion. He looked good again today. He’s proven to be a leader of the team. Ramsey did ok too, I would feel more comfortable with him as 3rd QB if they elect to keep him.
And speaking of next week being the real thing. We better clean up the stupid penalties, that killed us tonight. 12 penalties is inexcusable. And I’m sure hoping our run defense improves, I’m still suspect about that.
whoever you guys cut can you get a plane ticket to Pittsburgh
we need him for four weeks, Byron tore his MCL. We’ll send him back after those four weeks

Ramsey for Polamalu
For four weeks sounds good to me. Gives Sharper time to get healthy. haha
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
Yeah
That trade works for me!

I don't think we are going to make that trade

I am willing to do the paperwork for the transaction
Ramsey for Charlie Batch Troy Polamalu
There we go ready to be processed.
Oh when Brees, marches down the field, Oh when Brees gets into the redzone, Oh how I want to see him throw a TD! Oh when Brees marches down the field.
we got to find some room for junior

I say Chase
for the back up QB. I don’t think either one of them hurt their chances much with their playing last night (both looked a helluva lot better than Brunnell,) but I still think Chase has earned the spot. He’s been waiting in the wings for a while, learning the playbook and working with the team. I think he would prove to be a good leader and the team would rally around him should the unthinkable happen.

My guesses:
Daniel over Ramsey for #2, not sure if they let Ramsey go though
Gallette, they MUST find a spot for.
Arrington would be one heck of a luxury at #6 WR spot, but it will be difficult to find the space for him on the roster.
Sharper…who knows, but they will do all they can to keep him with the team, without hurting the team in the process. PUP? :-\
Certain Turk victims: Lorenzen, Metcalf, Jones, Torrance, and that’s all I can do from memory and one cup of coffee….
Who Dat? TWO DAT! Do dat AGAIN!!!
Ramsey actually looked decent last night. But not good enough IMO. I still prefer Daniel.
I too hope they can find a way to keep Gallette. He’s got potential and if he keeps trying at full effort he’ll be playing some soon enough.
I’d like to keep AA around if we can. There are 7 slots for people who aren’t active on gameday, after all. Keep him around for now. If we get in a pinch later, try to trade him or something.
I just hope D# is as healthy as he claims. If so, he won’t even need to be on PUP. But if he isn’t quite ready, PUP him and bring him back for the homestretch.
Anybody heard anything about Casillas's injury?
I’m hoping his foot is alright. We need him. Same goes for Chris Ivory’s knee. I would say we can drop Jeff Charlston to make room for Galette. Arrington would be nice to have, but he is far from a necessity, and would probably be one of those guys that is on the 53 man roster but doesn’t ever make the game day roster. But Casillas is my main concern right now, because I don’t think Clint Ingram is making this team unless its on the PUP list.

I'm wondering if it won't be a "Galette IN and Bobby McCray OUT" situation
It's gonna be a great year.

That thought crossed my mind too
I’d be totally OK with that one. McCray was supposed to be the speed rusher that we bring in on 3rd and long to get to the QB in obvious passing situations, and Galette seems to fill that exact role, only better.

Galette has been getting to the QB against scrub offensive linemen. Let’s at least wait to see him doing it against starters, before labeling him a better situational pass rusher than McCray. (Not saying I’d be opposed to a slight step backwards, if the coaches view it as close and that money can go towards Brees and/or Thomas long term).

Did it annoy anyone else that they didn’t kick the FG and force OT on 4th down last night? I understand the risk of injury, etc., but what happened to simulating real game scenarios? No one would have passed for the end zone in that situation at the end of a regular season game.

I think in the preseason you test the parts of your team that you are uncertain about. Hartley is a known quantity, so it wasn’t important to get him kicking in situations where the game is on the line.

No point in risking further injury by dragging out a meaningless game
As far as getting game experience, they gave Daniel a chance to see what he could do when we NEED a TD. Let’s just say we were down 4 and we needed a TD, Chase got that experience.
Peyton, I can eat Oreos faster than you!!!!
If they’re that into make believe, they could have practiced that on the prior possession, as well.
