Warning about clicking on live streaming links
So, I was in the open thread tonight and wanted a link to watch the game. The first one didn't work, so I clicked on another one. I believe then I click on you must have flash player blah-blah to view. Well thats when this Security Suite program pops up and starts scanning my computer. The Security Suite program says my computer was infected with all kind of stuff, but since this was my work computer I knew it was wrong. Well the stupid malware virus shuts down task manager and some other important functions. I go on my handy mobile phone to google the fix at this location:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-av-security-suite. Its a nasty little malware and since I don't have admin rights on my work computer, I couldn't follow the easy removal instructions. I had to start deleting registry files, well if you don't get a certain file it can re-load itself. 3 hours later I was able to get the program to stop. My computer doesn't seem to be running as fast, so I think I might have some remnants left. I'm not looking forward to calling the help desk, since you know your work computer is suppose to be used only for work activities. Anyway I just give people a warning to be careful about some of those sites(and I don't remember which one it was). The moral of the story, glove it before you click it.

I hate those malware programs...
A couple yrs ago I got infected with one (spyware striker I think) and it was really difficult to wipe out. People who create that stuff should have their hands and gonads removed with a dull knife.

I really like the Twilight novels. Romantic AND scary!

We’ve got a couple of well-read English literature majors on here. Lots of fun, winding them up.

Don't make fun of the twilight series. We don't need that fan base invading our site.
They are almost as bad as the Vikings fan. Joking of course, no one is worst than twilight fans.
GOT TO give you a rec on that link!

Thank God I have mcaffee
Those sites i’m not too keen on. There’s malware/spyware all over those links.
McAffee is good, but be careful
I was using their internet security suite when I suddenly discovered that there was an infection on my computer that it was missing. Ran a web-based scan that found the problem, then isolated the specific folder containing the file. Scanned just that folder with McAffee and it said it was fine! Cleaned the problem through other methods, and now it’s Semantic/Norton for me. My son also had problems with infections while using McAfee and is now on Norton as well.
That being said, NO security programs are foolproof! It’s up to the user to always be vigilant.

Gotta watch what links you choose to click
and as far as it being your work computer, I wouldn’t be too afraid to let the help desk know that your computer “seems to be acting up.” Just tell them that you clicked on a link and what started happening. Doubtful that they will be very concerned with exactly where the malware issues came from, and much more importantly they will be able to ensure that any problems will be confined or properly cleaned to prevent infection of the company network. As you noted, if you missed cleaning anything in the registry when you reboot your computer the malware can easily regenerate and cause more issues or new ones.
Unfortunately I’ve had experience with the manual cleanup of viruses! Good luck.

It's like a bad one night stand(at least what I've have been told).
You make one mistake and its with you for a life time. At least there is a cure for this virus. So, I’m at work the computer seems to be fine, except I can’t get past my company’s intranet web page. Can’t find yahoo or any other sites. I disconnect the network cable and VPN in and I have full access to the internet(spreading my virus). I can’t believe that malware actually has a web page with what I’m guessing fake reviews. I thought this stuff was illegal. Oh well, I guess I have to face the music and get the cure.

I'm curious
If you don’t have admin rights how you got infected…
Well thats funny, I can't update certain programs that I need without calling the help desk,
but a freaking malware program can download and execute. It disguises itself as a flash executable file that gains back door access. Another reason not to give back door access.
I got that one before... not sure exactly where from.
As soon as you see that, if you have a firewall like ZoneAlarm, stop all Internet activity.
Unfortunately, my firewall/anti-virus didn’t catch it, and I had a hell of a time getting things back to normal.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
in fact, after I cleaned that one...
I was looking for an image to post here, using google images…. when I clicked on an image to get the full -size version, it took me to the site (like normal) and that site had the same AV 2000 malware on it.
I was able to stop the Internet activity before anything installed, but OMG… I was freaking out.
Be very careful what links you click, even ones from Google / Google Images.

Try comboFix
It doesn’t actually install on your PC. You have to let it run for awhile but it’s the best malware/spyware remover that I have ever used.

Mac's are not supposed to virus' (ies) i Think?
You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will.-Jim Mora Sr.
Depends on the site. Depends on the virus. Depends on the browser. Depends on the updates that have (or have not) been applied.
But in general, theoretically, yeah Macs are probably safer. For now. If they ever gain market share again, however, virus writers will just switch targets. Macs aren’t secure because they are better. (Although there are some areas in which they are.) They’re secure because too few virus writers bother to try.
i watch on Brasil's link Thurs, justinTV.com
no problems. But I did get a malware/spyware w-e virus some time ago on my PC not laptop. Mcaffee which i had, failed, so i went to Kapersky on all computers, and this other is good, ESET Anti-virus eset.com. GL

I watched a stream Thurs.
and then Fri I discovered that my hotmail acct was sending out spam emails to everyone in my contact list. I ran a full scan with Avast and found nothing at first, but when I ran a boot-scan I found the virus. Since my wife uses my ‘puter all day long, I don’t know for sure where the virus was picked up, but I HATE EFFIN A-HOLES WHO WRITE VIRUSES! What’s worse is the ones who try to justify what they do by claiming they are only trying to make microsoft aware of security problems with Windows.
If I ever meet someone who writes this crap, I’m gonna take a page from JND and use a flyswatter on them. I think I’ll use a baseball bat instead of a flyswatter though and I don’t think I’ll smack them with it, I’ll think of something….

AVG. I had some troubles with viruses a few months back, got AVG and haven’t had a single virus since. It’s also free, and it checks all webpages before you go on them for viruses.
