Reggie Bush Reportedly Suffers Break in Lower Right Leg; Out Six Weeks
Saints reporter Brian Allee-Walsh from NewOrleans.com has been working behind the scenes (most likely against the wishes of head coach Sean Payton, too) and is reporting that the injury to Reggie Bush suffered in Monday night's Saints win over the 49ers is a break in his lower right leg. There's somewhat good news though...
The source also indicates the injury is not believed to be season-ending but may keep Bush out for 6 weeks or more. Further evaluation of the injury will take place Tuesday after the team arrives back in New Orleans.
I'm sure we'll have more details today and later this week.

Injury prone?
Is this going to be every year now? Could this have been his last game as a Saints?
I have long since stopped listening to you, I just wait for you to be done.
it could be but...
is this your last time commenting negatively about him? There’s your answer.

you say negative
I say truth. Same thing.
I have long since stopped listening to you, I just wait for you to be done.
I got 8 mil
reasons to be negative about a player that wont play half the year.

No wonder you're wound up so tight about this.
I never realized you were the one that paid his salary.
Negative Nancy. Bush is critical!!

Not until he starts sucking like Brian Westbrook.
I thought you were an intellect,
But now that I reflect, you left me reeling.
Westbrook had a ton of injuries...
of different types. That’s the real meaning of injury prone. Other than this, which anyone would have had, he’s had that knee which Payton didn’t really give him time to heal and that’s it. People run with “he’s injury prone” because he re-injured it but other than that, nothing outside of normal scrapes and bruises has gotten to him. No concussions, no rib problems, no sprains, nothing else.

WTF
Now you blaming Payton on Bush not recovering in time?
I have long since stopped listening to you, I just wait for you to be done.
not blaming that's what happened
Payton said it himself, he rushed him back too soon before. What’s with the over-reactions?!! LOL

"which Payton didn’t really give him time to heal "
Are you talking about 2009 season because that is not what I know about it. Even posted something on a french football site, with web links to back it, that both Payton and Bush were on the same page about our coach challenging Reggie to accept being use very occasionnaly in the first half of last season because of his knee.
Considering the result, it’s one of my favorite “coaching” moment right up there with allowing Pierre Thomas to work his way into our roster.
Repeat? Under construction...
bite your tongue!!
Yeah it’s serious, because he opens up new facets for the offense when he is on the field. He is a danger that all opposing teams have to account for in their defense. Now that he is sidelined, that is one more weapon that the Saints will not have.
Not to mention, after the game one of the analyst...
Can’t remember if it was Gruden or someone else said they asked Payton how important he was to their offense and he said he’s one of the most important parts of it. I’ve watch that comeback route that Shockey or Colston run and if you notice Bush is coming out of the flats, Brees looks his way then throws it to one of the receivers. I’ve seen it done at least 5 times a game. Not to mention how they cover him. Twice within this game Reggie took two defenders out of the picture and opened it up for Brees. I use to wonder but dude, he’s sooo integral it’s ridiculous. Gruden said it best, “No disrespect to Thomas…” but Bush makes it happen I say we go .500 without him.
2010 is cuzzin's breakout year...run with that chip bruh!
well not really
When Reggie was out for a while last time, Payton successfully made adjustments to keep the offense going. In fact, it was so successful (or seemed to be), that many Saints fans/Reggie detractors claimed that the offense actually was better WITHOUT Bush. Appearances can be deceiving. I expect a repeat of this scenario this year, so get ready, CP.
I thought you were an intellect,
But now that I reflect, you left me reeling.
We have plenty of playmakers(although none quite like reggie)
so i’m not too worried about it. I think we can get by a little while without him although I would most definetly prefer to have em. I don’t think that they will sputter through points any more than they have been doing.
Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!
Did you guys see Gruden's comment
He said Payton told him they do so many things because of Reggie Bush. Sure when Reggie’s been out in the past we did well but against what type of teams. I watched the film last night. They use him soo much. Even when he’s not on the field the defense thinks, “oh this must be a run—I-formation…” but we throw out a screen to PT…man yall shoulda heard Gruden. I was expecting someone besides me to chime in on that…I was like man, that’s real talk!

I think we’re going to miss Reggie a lot. He was the only part of the offense working last night.

Very serious
Of course it’s a very serious injury. You can’t find someone out there who can give you what Reggie Bush can. Six weeks is also a long time in the NFL.

Considering...
how the offense has played as a whole so far, I’d say this was very serious.

Can we all agree
that when Reggie does return, he no longer needs to return punts? Unless I’m mistaken, last time he was injured was on a punt return as well. If he’s so important to the offense, as both fans and coaches (and myself) seem to think, then can’t special teams just get by without him? As pointed out by MtnE last week, we rarely block well enough on punts to get him any room to work with anyway. I just don’t see PR yardage as being critical enough to the team’s success to keep reducing his shelf life like this.

Boom rec'd it
I was thrilled to see Reggie preparing to field the punt. Then I cursed him when he fumbled it. Then I cheered him when he recovered it. Then I wondered why Lance Moore wasn’t doing that job when that those defenders fell all over him.
I thought you were an intellect,
But now that I reflect, you left me reeling.
Or Roby. Or Rod Harper. Not Tracy Porter. This is something I’ve been preaching from 21 Jump Street. Why do so few offensive/defensive starters and/or key contributors around the league play special teams? The answer is staring us in the face.

Payton should’ve had Moore out there with the wind and all. Reggie is dynamite but he gets confused sometimes I think on whether he should fair catch it or not…

It's reported to be a fibula fracture

At least that’s the small bone in the leg. If it were the knee, tibia or femur, he’d probably be gone for the season. Six weeks isn’t too bad. Payton will adjust. We next face the Falcons, Panthers, Cards, Bucs, Browns, Steelers, and Panthers again during the next seven weeks. Then we have the bye. My guess is we won’t see Reggie until after the bye in week 11 when we get a visit from the Seahawks.
A new RB will probably be brought in soon. With this schedule, I feel pretty good about our chances until Bush returns. No need to panic just yet.

He had a good game up until that muffed punt. He had a stressful week with all that Heisman BS and then at the end of the day he breaks a bone in his leg. Speedy recovery Reggie we’ve got you in our thoughts. We’ve got your back.

Hang in there Reggie!!
He played his heart out last night! Sucks to see him injured for 6 weeks. We just need to make some adjustments. His presence on the sidelines will pump this team up.
Whoever keeps commenting negatively about Reggie is truly an idiot, sorry for the insults but it's really starting to bother me
Do you watch any Saints games? Don’t go looking at Reggie’s stats but the guy is a difference maker, will draw 2-3 defenders with him, he lets our receivers get open and is so dynamic in the open field.
This injury truly sucks, I saw a different Reggie Bush this year, a more mature Reggie Bush, he’s growing up and maturing right before our eyes and we need to sit back and embrace it, not bash him for constantly being injured.
His position is very tough, he returns punts, he’s a RB/WR, lines up as a receiver at times, and runs the ball too. Find me more running backs that can do what reggie does just as well as reggie and then you can start commentating negatively.
Thank God it’s not season ending, well that’s what we’re hearing now, but this guy is always involved in negative media and us Saints fans need to support him, not be negative towards him, he’s got enough personal problems and the guy still comes out to play like a beast every fregging sunday. Gets rocked by Patrick Willis and gets right back up.

When he comes back, take him off punt returns.
He should be used in the return game the way the Eagles used Westbrook the past 3-4 years; sparingly. Instead of Bush being the main guy, he should be used only when a big return really is needed. Returning is too dangerous to keep risking him like that. I understand he is a home-run hitter from there, but is it worth it if this keeps happening?
“He should be used in the return game the way the Eagles used Westbrook the past 3-4 years; sparingly.”
I’d agree with this moreso, if he was making bigger contributions on offense. Westbrook’s special teams duties dimished when Duce Staley shuffled off to Pittsburgh. Same thing with Tiki Barber, Maurice Jones-Drew and even Deuce McAllister early on. Last time I checked, Pierre is still the closest thing to an every down back in this offense. While I do think they should tone it down some in general, he would have been returning the punt in THAT particular situation regardless, because the game was so close. In other words, I don’t think limited duty would have prevented this injury.
Vai Sikahema has left the building.
The point about this specific return is true, but the injury still gets one to thinking about how much he returns in general.
I see no reason not to minimize the risk going forward, even if it wouldn’t have prevented this particular injury.
But we aren't paying him just to return punts.
His contributions on offense are much more important than his contributions in the return game. Big punt returns look great and get everyone fired up, but it seems to me that Bush’s true game changing plays come in the passing game or red zone.
I think he should've just caught the ball...
then this wouldn’t even be a thread. I’ll tell him later tonight just to see how he reacts;)
