THE PROBLEM WITH THE DEFENSE IS ONE PERSON...SCOTT SHANLE!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!! WATCH THIS DIRTBAG THIS SUNDAY! FOLLOW HIM WHEN HE'S ON THE FIELD. THAT SHOULD BE EASY TO DO!! HE'LL BE THE GUY STANDING UP, ON THE OPPOSITE OF THE TACKLE PILE!!!! HE'S WORTHLESS AND USELESS ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!!

The team struggles and the fans need a scapegoat. Reggie is out with an injury, so that leaves Scott "Lunch Pail/Pale"Shanle.

A lot of these fans despised Scott Fujita as well due to his less than All-Pro performances on the field and were happy to see him go. Now the nattering nabobs of negativity are on Shanle, in spite of repeated votes of confidence from Payton and Gregg Williams. How often do you see or hear Shanle getting an earful from GDub for being out of position?

Shanle is solid if unspectacular. Could the Saints get a better linebacker? Sure. Shall we take up a collection to pay the excess salary required? Because Tom & Rita (or Mickey) do not appear to be inclined to spend their money that way. They'd rather spend it on Reggie. Hey, it's their money.

Through 3 games, Vilma leads the defense with 19 tackles and 6 assists. Shanle is second with 11 tackles and 10 assists. THAT doesn't sound like a guy who is rarely in on the play as described by the moron I quoted above.

And how're you liking Fujita's replacement, Dunbar? 13 tackles, 5 assists. I like him ok. But the lesson here is be careful what you wish for.

You don’t think he’ll go for the trifecta… another CB? lol.

Maybe Prince “The Cornerback Formerly Known As” Amukamara?

It was worth the wait.

Please, no CB in the first round again PayLoo… PLEASE!

If you want another CB (and I think we could use one) get one in FA!!! We don’t need another rookie CB who plays like a rookie CB because he IS a @^#$ing rookie.

Of course Shanle is second in tackles

Every TE in the league catches the ball when he’s covering them he has to make the tackle how about being 2nd in passes defended that would be much better

Indeed. Too bad they don’t have an “average tackle distance from the line of scrimmage” statistic. Shanle would easily be a Top 5 OLB in that category.

We need an instinctive guy that can be disruptive in the backfield when called upon to do so, as well as handle the nuances of pass coverage. Check out this guy frame by frame. Blitzing from the strong side, he stops dead in his tracks when he recognizes the bubble screen, then comes BACK to make the play. Remember the name. He’s a hot riser on an underachieving UW team that’s about to drop off the radar. Could wind up being a steal for someone. Foles is no slouch QB, either. Notice the pre-play statistics. Notice the score and time remaining. Huge play.

If Shanle was as bad as some say

we could never have won a super bowl and won almost all of our games. The NFL is too competitive and offenses and Off. Coordinators would just zero in on someone that bad and blow him up and have their way with him. That hasn’t happened. You don’t last as long as Shanle has without being good. Sorry, the reality is that Payton and GW are NOT wrong and every one looking for a defensive scaopegoat is right. And our defense didn’t just “get lucky” last year and no opponents noticed that Shanle was terrible.

According to Football Outsiders, it most certainly has.

yeah…

When I use quotation marks, it deletes everything before the first one, and after the last one.

I’ve alerted SBNation and they confirmed that they are working on it… I thought they fixed it when I saw your post.
