John Carney is Back...but is that a good thing!

Okay Saints fan!  A familiar face is back in the mix.  John Carney was reportedly signed today.  However, that does not mean that Garrett Hartley will be dismissed.  It may mean that Carney will take over the short yardage responsibilities and Hartley will retain long range duties. I ask is this a good move.  I believe that Carney can be a mentor and help Hartley develop into a reliable kicker, but isn't that the job of the specials team coaches.  If the plan is to rely on Carney for the short stuff, I need not remind Saints fans of the misery and heartbreak that he caused us towards the end of his tenure.  I hope it works it out. I hope he can help Hartley get over his mental block (and it is mental because he has all the talent in the world).  My biggest question is, "who gets cut to make room on the roster"!

I throw it to you Saints fans...What do you think of the move?

Resident Psych for kickers re-signed

I think it is more to help Hartley through the mental stuff. Sometimes people do better if there is competition (even if it is just a placebo competition). Maybe Hartley goes out there with a chip on his shoulder to help with the chip shots.

It’s not a good thing if you like Arrington.

Saints release receiver Adrian Arrington to make room for new kicker John Carney
Arrington could return to practice squad if he passes through waivers 11 minutes ago via web

Was hoping they would hang on to him...good hands

Seems like they could have found someone else to move to the PS.. might need Arrington if Meachem and Henderson remain in slumps.

BAD BAD BAD move on Saints part

Arrington would have potentially put up more points than Carney ever will. Carnrey has had his carreer and he needed to retire to the recliner. Reminds me off Brett Favres Daddy, still playing football. Yuck………………………..

A ridiculous assertion, to be sure. How many times in the history of the NFL has a non-kicker outscored a kicker on the same team? You’re talking Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, LT2, Thurman Thomas and the like. Adrian Arrington will be lucky to break a NFL huddle this season, much less a goal line.

More like Ever. Has he even appeared in a regular season game yet?

And he pointed out on the map all the places he had been.

Schefter reported on ESPN...

that Carney is likely going to be the primary field goal kicker on Sunday.

Really stupid move......

How about adding a FTW were they thinking too the vote! My move is sign Carney on as a consultant, they’ll be paying him for that anyway and he wouldn’t count as a roster spot. There is no way he can hit the long stuff so whats the point of him on the roster. Hartley just needs a little coaching up right now. Short of us finding out Hartley is suspended again or gets injuried, Carney won’t be active for a game this season. This is just a kneejerk reaction too his miss in overtime, which he would not have had too make if he misses the one in regulation. And/or the team goes ahead and actually uses the other 15 to 20 players on offense to use 2 or 3 of the 4 trys they have too make …. wait for it …. a touchdown. I honestly believe the first game problems were just nevers and the offseason. I think they’re giving up on Hartley way too soon and for that matter Arrington too.
If Arrington was that expendable then they should have used his slot for another LB or a OT or OG or DT or DE or RB … or anyother position we could really use right now.
My incurable faith in Sean Payton is starting too slip with each week. And before you say it its not from the loss. It started Week 1 and is progressively getting worse.
P.S. I’m tired of Hamburgers so in lou of a FTW were they thinking choice how about some Boudin?

I agree 100% we should have made him the kicking coach instead of another kicker

It cost us a reciever(arrington) because our FPK needs some one to hold his hand

Why can’t Chase Daniel hold his hand? They’re about the same height.

I don't care who holds his hand ....

Maybe him and Henderson can hold hands and cry on each others shoulders … its as much Henderson’s fault for the loss as Hartley’s.
