New Orleans Saints Release Bobby McCray, Patrick Ramsey, Nick Leckey, Kendrick Clancy; Cut Ladell Betts
Let the roster trimming begin!
Jason LaCanfora tweeted just minutes ago that the Saints have released DE Bobby McCray.
Saints have released DE Bobby McCray
Can't say I'm really surprised given the fact that the Saints cut him earlier this summer to save a bunch of money (not on their car insurance) and he's been outplayed by other defensive ends like Junior Galette and Jeff Charleston this pre-season. We'll always remember his veteran quarterback killing spree of 2009.
Running back Ladell Betts has also been cut, per a recent Adam Schefter tweet...
RB Ladell Betts got cut in New Orleans.
The good news about this is that perhaps it means the knee injury of Chris Ivory isn't too bad and the team expects his return in the near future.
And sadly, former Tulane quarterback Patrick Ramsey was also released today, per a Mike Tripletttwitter confirmation...
Just confirmed that Patrick Ramsey has been released through agent Jimmy Sexton
WWLTV reports via Twitter that DT Kendrick Clancy and C Nick Leckey have both been released as well...
DT Kendrick Clancy will be released by the Saints according to his agent.
C Nick Leckey has been released by the Saints.
What do you guys think?

He's a situational pass rusher
with 1.5 sacks for the year…hopefully there’s room for an upgrade there. Junior, you’re up?
Mr. McCray, thank you for your service sir!
I'm still going to miss him
seemed like a nice guy, proud football player, and great member of the Saints!
Vikings fans are going to have a field day with this one

We're actually going to pick him up and sign him
then tie him up and let Favre wail on his angle with a week old Lefse.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Love the move… McCray has underachieved since we got him. He is a speed rusher with no speed and the penalties drive you crazy. Junior Gallette is a player….
Gallette’s drive-extending neutral zone infraction didn’t drive you crazy?
"I was not on the boat in question" -Darren Sharper
It might have driven you crazy, but you mentioned on the other thread, they are the same player, speed rusher that brings nothing to the run. The difference is Galette plays special teams, and is younger, so maybe, just maybe he can learn and peak higher than where he is now. McCray pretty much played out his string.

Roger that
u know when Galette’s on the field. McCray gets lost to often. He won’t be forgotten, though, the hit on Warner was epic. Thx Bobby!

Well I feel like we helped him and he helped us last year…and showed some other teams he could clean up his act and still be a force to reckon with…hope he gets picked up by anybody but the ViQueens…lol

I thought he was a decent DE. I can’t remember correctly was it McCray who bull dozed over Kurt Warner in the playoffs last year?

I haven’t seen last night’s game. (I can’t believe I have to wait until Sun morning for NFLN to replay it, but that’s a whole other thread.) So I can only take your word for it that we have ample replacement for McCray.

Agreed. RT @FO_DougFarrar: I’m assuming that Betts’ release in NOLA means Chris Ivory is a.) OK w/the knee & b.) carving himself a future.
Ain’t it hard when you discover that he really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal, how does it feel?
Could mean the other guy is better on special teams.

if Ivory is in fact injured you would think they would keep Betts and Wynn or maybe they just want 3 backs this year and put Ivory on ir

It’s funny… I did a google search for “Ladell Betts cut”
And google actually has a little twitter stream thing in the search results…
Jeff duncan and mike tripplett and a hundred other people just re-tweeted Schefter…
THAT"S HOW BS RUMORS SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE…
I’m NOT saying that this one is a rumor, but holy c**p, can’t you do your own research and reporting? Re-tweeting the guy with the information is clutter.
Want to go to the Saints vs. Cowboys game? I've got an extra ticket.
Yep, McCray's release
was immediately independently tweeted by multiple sources, I haven’t seen anything but Shefter and retweets of Shefter so far.

I hate to to see him go but....
I feel Bobby has been an underachiever or hurt his entire time as a saint.
My only question is who do we have on the roster that we can say will pound QB’s in the playoffs like McCray did?

A little surprised
…but, I trust Bill Johnson and G-Dub in that they know how to evaluate their players and choose the best ones for the team. I liked 93 Octane. He’ll get picked up by another team before long. Of course, that team won’t be the Vikings.

Think the Vikings might be dirty enough to....
pick up McCray, start him against the Saints after a week of posting newspaper clippings on his locker with “Saints cut McCray” articles and the instructions to him before the game, “you remember Favre last year and how you hit him often, well same game plan buddy, only you hit number 9, often and hard”. Boy that would freakin suck.
lol I think your line is better than ours..
Honestly I think jared allen and Ray Edwards are btter then mcCray if they couldn’t get to brees I doubt he could.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
yeah, i don't remember McCray getting to Favre that much anyways
a few plays but not too many

Wow, kinda suprised, though I liked Daniel better figured Payton would go with Ramsey.
Oh when Brees, marches down the field, Oh when Brees gets into the redzone, Oh how I want to see him throw a TD! Oh when Brees marches down the field.
Lots of intangibles involved that we can’t know about, until Payton’s next book. What if he looked into Ramsey’s eyes and did not like what he saw? What if Ramsey always kind of seemed like he wasn’t paying attention when Payton was telling him how an NFL quarterback should conduct himself? What if Ramsey always kinda smelled bad? What if Ramsey balked on regularly picking up Payton’s dry cleaning while Chase eagerly accepted the duty? It’s the difference between a fat punk backup QB and a tall slim one.

Surprised
Chase did look a little better, but I didn’t think he blew Ramsey away or anything. Interesting decision. Let’s hope we never have to see Chase enter a game except for on days when we blow a team out or in week 17 when the no. 1 seed is already locked up.

The answer is, I think, simple
Ramsey had no upside at all. Daniel shows promise. Payton is a quarterback coach, and if he sees Daniel as a possible successor to Brees—something Ramsey never could have been—and at the same time sees him as equalling Ramsey now, the decision is easy.
It was worth the wait.

Another possibility at RB: Pay-Loo may be scanning to see if another RB released today by another team may also be a good fit. Ivory is most likely the 3rd RB, but another RB will most definitely be added to the practice squad. That may turn out to be a new face.

Galette
Will be second on the team in sacks behind Will Smith. The special teams came to play last night, and Galette showed he’s a beast on teams and defense. Maybe Harry Coleman will make the team too seeing as he played well on special teams and in coverage on defense. On top of that he’s a flexible player, so we’ll see what happens!
