Around SBN: Dog Football! Which Breeds Are Best Suited For The Gridiron?

Projected 53 Man Roster

Well, now that the preseason is over and we've had our first casualties of the numbers game, I figured it was time to put my 2 cents in as to who makes this roster.

QB: Drew Brees, Patrick Ramsey, Chase Daniel

Payloo realizes that Daniel can't support the team if Brees goes down this year, but he also won't make it through waivers. Ramsey is the number 2

RB: Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, DeShawn Wynn

Surprised about Chris Ivory not being there? Payloo pulls the old "Put a good, young player that we want to keep but is injured on IR" move. Expect to see him next year. Ladell Betts just got cut as well.

FB: Heath Evans

WR: Marques Colston, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, Courtney Roby, Adrian Arrington

Montez Billings didn't do nearly enough to crack the deepest part of our roster. Roby gets in because of ST, Aarington because of what he did in the preseason.

TE: Jeremy Shockey, David Thomas, Jimmy Graham

No reason for Humphrey to stay now that Graham is healthy again.

OT: Jermon Bushrod, Jon Stinchcomb, Charles Brown, Zach Strief

OG/C: Carl Nicks, Jahri Evans, Jonathan Goodwin, Matt Tennant, Nick Leckey

DE: Will Smith, Alex Brown, Jimmy Wilkerson, Jeff Charleston, Junior Galette

Smith and Brown are locks, and Wilkerson, Charleston and Galette proved they can play. Today's release of Bobby McCray should solidify that.

DT: Sedrick Ellis, Kendrick Clancy, Anthony Hargrove, DeMario Pressley

Al Woods gets sent to the practice squad, Jay Ross and Remi Ayodele are victims of the number crunch.

MLB: Jonathan Vilma, Marvin Mitchell

OLB: Scott Shanle, Jonathan Casillas, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, K.C. Asiodu, ,Clint Ingram*

Sean Payton has said that Asiodu was not brought in just to replace Troy Evans(Don't have a link, it was in one of the Fleur-de-Links posts though), so he must be here to stay. Casillas and Shanle are the starters, Dunbar is a solid backup and Ingram starts the year on the PUP list.

CB: Tracy Porter, Jabari Greer, Randall Gay, Patrick Robinson, Leigh Torrence

Reggie Jones got beat deep twice last night, once for a TD, one that was a foot from being another TD.

FS: Malcolm Jenkins, Darren Sharper

Usama Young is done. He got burnt repeatedly against the Colts in the SB, and since D# will be back for Week 1, Young gets cut. Don't be surprised to see him brought back if Sharper gets hurt again, though.

SS: Roman Harper, Pierson Prioleau, Chris Reis

Chip Vaughn showed last night that he's not ready for the Big Leagues yet. He gets stashed on the PS.

ST: Garrett Hartley, Thomas Morstead, Jason Kyle

Three backs is not at all too thin. And that’s all we’ve got, unless Ivory’s back ASAP

"Here's the funny thing. Last night, I couldn't sleep too well. I called my dad (Bill) at 2:15 in the morning, and told him I had a feeling I was going to hit the game-winner from 42 yards on the right hash. I think I was two yards off."- Garrett Hartley

Don't think...

we cut Betts if Ivory’s injury is significant. But wouldn’t doubt we see him again after week 1 and his contract is no longer guaranteed

Is anyone else worried about the secondary a bit?

I am. Usama made the cut & Sharper is now on PUP. I’m a bit sick for the 1st 6 weeks w/ just Young and Jenkins back there at SS by themselves.

I agree though

overall the team this yr has a lot of new faces, and clearly better talent to choose from compared to last yr. most of the starters returning and looking really good. my preseason pick is the same as last yr. 10-6. if we make it to the nfc championship, I fear it will be at Lambeau.
